Recommend me a laptop

Hello newschoolers, I need help in a search for a laptop.

- I will be using it for university next year.
- I will be doing a lot of video editing this winter.
- I am proficient with Vegas and somewhat with premiere.
- I would like something with considerable processing power.
- I am not biased towards Mac or PC.

Please help.

my vote goes to macbook pro as well, i use both mac and windows.
(my home computer is a pc, i haven't used it since i got my macbook pro 2.53Ghz, however at school i work on a 3.5 Ghz pc for engineering and still rather my mac)

both mac and windows laptops will accomplish the same thing if you get the right one. a lot depends on how much you want to spend

do you want to spend 1700-2000 on a macbook pro

or 1000-1500 on a nice windows laptop

if you wanna fit in at university get the mac. everybody has them at my school. They're nice computers but expensive. contrary to popular belief, you can edit videos with a pc, and I think you can run both aforementioned programs on the windows OS. If you are prone to f***ing up your computer get a mac. Other than that I would say buy whatever fits your price range.

Macs are nice, but you really do get overcharged considering the components. If you're relatively computer savvy, Windows 7 is just as safe and easy to use as OSX. Don't get a MBP just because they look nice.

haha 13 inch mbp is like 1100 bucks bro.

I have a 13 inch mbp, and have a windows based pc, I have to say hands down mbp's are one of the best laptops in the world. I can honestly recommend anyone to get one.

to everyone saying they're overpriced based on components. maybe. but with the student discount and overall ease of use. I think any "extra" money is easily justified

Personally, i have the MBP 13inch, 2.53 ghz, 4GB and have no problem running programs from Photoshop/Illustrator (both CS5) to AutoCad, and I think that AutoCad is a more demanding program then most, if not all adobe programs.

i just looked at the apple site. yeah the cheapest 13" macbook pro is 1199 with pretty weak components from the looks of it. you have to get the 15" starting at 1799 to get a better processor.

i really think those are awesome laptops, but you may get more computing power for the price elsewhere? just my opinion

Just saying, on macs....If something breaks you need to pay ridiculous amounts of money + wait times at those stupid genius bars to get a replacement piece instead of a generic component.

also pros are sooooo expensive. I do NOT regret switching from my old macbook pro to a toshiba satellite.

Battery is 8 hours, screen is amazing. Sound is at least 10x louder than the max of the pro. (harmon kardon speakers). Its faster, tons of memory, all the good basic stuff + lots more. + its windows so its much more compatible with everything.

Macbook Pro.  Also hands down for me.  13 inch MBP is still a good buy.  But you should wait until the summer when Apple's back to school deal is on.  You get like 10% for being a student which I believe you get all the time, but also a rebate for a 100$ printer and a 200$ iPod touch.  Send the rebate crap in within a month and you've got a free printer and an ipod touch.

1. Apple warranty repair work works like this
a. you go to authorized repair place.
b. you make claim
c. they look at computer, and okay the warranty claim
d. they order the part direct from Apple
e. apple ships the part fedex overnight out of reno, NV
f. if I order a part by 7pm EST I can have a part by 10:00 A.M EST the following day
g. Apple pays you more if you fix things faster. Aka if a place takes 2 weeks to turn something around, they get reimbursed less for the repair vs. a shop that gets it repaired in 3 or 4 days. So the incentive is on the shop really get your shit in and out ASAP.

2. "Ridiculous" amounts of money. First off, find me a netbook that has a core 2 duo cpu, and nvidia 320m video card with a 128 or 256gb SSD (not real SSD, but faster than a 5400rpm hard drive never the less. Beyond that, find any notebook besides the Macbook Pro that is designed out of a solid brick of aluminum and designed so well. Apple really uses "intelligent design".

3. Resale value on Apple computers is insanely high in comparison to other computers. Buy an HP and a Macbook Pro and see which one is worth more in 3 years time. To think 2007 Macbook Pro's (yeah like 3.....almost 4 year old computers) still sell for $500+ if they are taken care of......

4. Lastly - Macbook Pro's are not expensive - here is proof

Actually if your mac is under warranty it is in my experience very efficient. My mbp keyboard was acting up, went in, found out they needed to repair it. Was covered under warranty, then paid for shipping and everything, got it 3 days later at my door step completely fixed.

I have a regular 13" macbook from early 2006 with 1gb of ram and a 2ghz intel core duo

and I run CS5 just fine suckazzzz! Sometimes I run photoshop and dreamweaver and 20 safari windows at the same time! like right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a mac! I like macs! I just think that if you want to save money and still get a solid computer you should go for something besides a mac.

also it doesnt really matter (to me personally) what super high tech things (that dont directly effect my everyday computer useage) im paying for... money is money.

but this is just MY opinion.

A. their warranty sucks
You have a problem? Get ready to ship your entire motherfucking notebook to asus and wait for them.

B. I have a UL80a myself, and i think its "well built" except for the cd-rom drive. it opens "constantly" by itself because the eject key is too easily tapped when the computer has yet to enter suspend mode.

C. this has caused me to ya know, damn near rip my cd-rom drive out one a few occasions

I assure you apple is appropriately priced.

You can't compare Macbooks to the weekly special at Best Buy...even if it is Asus (since Asus is sold at best buy now). Find me a notebook cnc machined out of a solid aluminum block. Find me anything as durable as a macbook.

These plastic pieces of shit they call macbooks (not the macbook pro/air) and pc's today are a disgrace to computing as a whole if you ask me.

Nothing is as nice as a fuckin unibody macbook pro. nothing by asus even if you ask me, and i fondle a lot of notebooks.

Hey let us not forget you are paying $400 to go from 4gb of ram to 8gb of ram from apple......

If you just bought the memory yourself you would save over $230 and you could sell your old memory also.

And the i7 that comes with the mac you are quoting is an i7 620



newegg first off has no i7 620m asus notebooks in stock.

There is not a single i7 620m based notebook with a 17" screen that does 1920x1080 on newegg. Don't forget the nvidia 320m video card........
