Recommend me a pow ski

Alright because I am from Ontario I really have no knowledge of any powder skis. So I am here to ask NS what my best options are because I will need a pair for school next year. I will be in school in the eastern townships of Quebec and would prefer to not ride my park skis on the days that there is snow.

So having said that I will you give you some information.

Height: 5'11
Weight: 160
Skiing Ability: I came from a racing backround so I can certainly ski pretty well.

I don't want a ski that is to stupidly fat because that is just not useful for what I will be doing.

My choices of companies that I can get a ski from are: Salomon, Armada, Rossignol, Vokl and maybe line.

So please NS from those companies help me chose a powder ski.

For your height/weight, you should take a look at either the Armada JJs or the Line SFB. Both are extremely versatile skis and will turn into your park skis as well. I was skeptical before I rode the Sir Francis Bacon but first day I was hooked. Just be sure to go with something with early rise/taper. That will ensure that you will get the most out of your skis regardless of the conditions.

Rossignol - S3, S5, S6 (if they fix the problem with the Rocker
Volkl - Gotama, Bridge
Line - Blend, SFB
Depends on the kind of skiing you are going to be doing, how much snow you get etc? Bit more info on what exactly you want them for would be helpful. I've skied quite a few of them over the years so maybe i can help..

he said he doesnt want something rediculously wide, and those are 127 under foot. I reccomend the line blends at 100 under foot, or the line prophet 100s

i think the bacons would be a prime choice. however if your used to small radius and are from a racing background you might like the JJs better

Mostly tree skiing. There are not too many options for open bowls and big mountain skiing where I will be.

I think he confused Bacons with EP Pros. And check out the Salomon Shogun (awesome ski). You would probably like it a lot since you used to race. Stiff, solid, and goes through whatever. Also check out the 2012 and Czar from Salomon And 100 at the waist is certainly fat enough and it has a little tiny bit of early rise. Also check out the JJs, they too are great skis. Bacons might be a bit soft for what you want. From Line, look into the blend and the prophet 100 and 115. From Volkl, definitely check out the Gotama. Super sick, solid, well built ski that is just great at everything. From Rossi, look at the S3, S6, and S7

Basically,

Salomon: Shogun, Czar, 2012

Line: Prophet 100, Prophet 115, Blend, Bacon

Armada: JJ, ARV

Rossignol: S3, S6, S7

I would say the best options would by far be the Shogun, Gotama, and JJ. They are all very great skis and you would most likely be very happy with any of them. Hoped this helped

Basically the S6 this year was meant to have a long low rise.. but due to some problem with pressing them, some or all of them have contact points right at the tip and tail... so the rocker is kinda like an extended m shape.. its hard to desribe... basically they are flat underfoot, then they rocker up but then camber back again... so kind of like 2 different cambered sections... theres a thread on TGR about it.. this picture is included..

Basically the messed up ones have a profile a bit like the bottom board there..

That aside considering the area you are talking about doesnt get dumped on.. I'd go for the Blend, S3 or SFB if you want to go more jibby, or the Gotama if you just want to ski forwards..

yeh i was thinking about the s6 too before i heard about the problem.. the s3 is a good ski, i skied it last year and it can do everything as long as its not too deep.. i'd get a pair if i had space for a 3rd ski in my quiver..

I love my seths. So great. You dont need a 130+ underfoot to slay.

(they are 105 under btw, this year they got moved to 115)

Salomon 2012 would be fine, i have JJs and i ski them like 10 days last year in quebec, we dont get that much snow. This why i suggest you the 2012, 92 underfoot, rocker and you can ski park after

If you don't need something super wide I'd lean toward the new Blend or Salomon Shogun. Shogun is a little stiffer, with a bamboo layup, a little narrower, and less early rise (or an adaptive chamber, as Atomic calls it, as there's not a true "rocker" to the Shogun), all that makes it a better hard snow performer, but if you watch Abma ski it in pow, it looks super solid.

The Blend is a killer all mountain ski, and this years specializes a bit more on pow. Softer and early rise tip/tails are added this year, burly construction with the fatty base/edge and double thick sidewalls. Torsional stiffness is good, so performance on hard snow isn't too bad, and its fairly park savvy (last year's Blend was my park ski). All said, killer ski, really slays in every condition, and the 183 would be a solid size for you. My only gripe (at 6'5) is they need a longer size to compensate for the added early rise this year.

Thanks for all of the advice everybody.

I think that right now it is between the S6 and the JJs. Was the problem with the S6 only with one batch or all of them?

^the jj will carve better on trail, plus they r amazing on trail. I have to admit I haven't skied the s6 since they rockered it, but for tight trees i'd def go jj

i don't know to be honest, best thing to do is contact a rep, rumour has it they've been recalled.. if you bought from backcountry you could easily send them back if you found you had a problem pair..
If you dont need the extra width, i'd still go for s3 (but they are damn ugly this year) or Blends.. JJs are gonna be an awesome tree ski too but it sounds like you dont really need 115mm
