Why did volant go out of business?

I used to hear only good things about there skis... my dad loved them, and i heard the parabolic versions were selling like mad. They used to call them lead sleds i remember, cause they had metal exterior and were heavy as shit. Anybody still ride a pair?

Also I have been reading alot about scott shooting themselves in the foot by going after another company or something? Could someone please post a link to whatever thread talks about this or summarize what scott did that was so bad?

volant just went the way of many businesses, profits were not covering costs in their departments is what i was told by an old rep. but any volants that are still around i can guarantee there still rocking, they made some SOLID ass skis,

I believe K2 turned them into a boutique only brand, and then a couple years later the brand stopped making money.

My aunt used to ski on Volants (maybe she still does?), but she had had them forever and said they were amazing skis. they really should come back and try their hand and twintips

^ they did used to make a twintip called the machete , greg tufflemire used to shred on those bad boys. they were a sick looking ski bright blood red base with a black machete on the tail, and of course the infamous metal topsheet.. shane used to shred the machete back in the day to when he would shred in the old big air comps

Pretty sure that they were still manufacturing in Colorado.  They had a huge facility off of I-70.  Sad thing is that the day they closed down, they threw all of the left over skis in a big dumpster. I heard about it about 24 hours too late and everything was gone.  Still think Hank Kashiwa is the man.  So did K2 by the rights to the name?

Scott sent a cease and desist order to ON3P because one of thier skis was named Great Scott. Apparently Scott has the rights to the name Scott. So ON3P changed the name of the ski to "Cease and Desist"

Then warren miller entertainment group filed stuff against level 1 since Warren miller narrated Refresh.

Now armada is filing a cease and desist against rossignol for ski shapes.

wow hold up. Scott made on3p change the name of one of their skis. thats all. is it really that big a deal. way way less important then warren miller's lawsuit and armada's current thing. I mean sure dick move but seriously it doesnt even matter really.

It's really more about a big company throwing it's weight around and threatening a much much smaller company that won't influence they're bottom line at all.

I would rather ski companies not pick on each other over little shit.

its because they were like stainless steal and heavy as fuck and people who liked them had just never tried any other carving ski

Volant is an Amer Sports brand, controlled by Atomic, and they are mostly sold in Europe now as a luxury boutique ski.

That is true, it would be cool to have a pair for historys sake. I would love to have a pair. But otherwise the praxis pows are pretty much a modern day knock off albeit fatter.
