Do you wear a helmet when you ride?

We were having this discussion at the office today, and I'm wondering what the general populace of newschoolers says.

I remember back in like 2001-2004 or so, what I would consider the "heydey" of my skiing ability... very few people wore helmets when they were riding. I mean even guys like Tanner and Candide would wear hats when competing in the x-games.

Hell... I never wore a helmet unless someone forced me. I don't even think I had a good reason. When I ask myself why, really it all came down to fashion and comfort. Didn't like the feeling or look of helmets.

However, more and more these days I see helmets almost everywhere. Of course part of that is because here in Quebec, wearing a helmet in the terrain park is mandatory. I know its the same in some places in Ontario, and at Whistler... but how many other parks are like that?

So I pose the question to you - do you ride with a helmet? What fuels your decision either way?

Jibbin' wherever - no, it gets hot and annoying maintaining features and hiking with a helmet on.

I think that they are worth it. There are good looking helmets out there and they can save your life. Thats why i wear one

Just wondering, what is the safest ski helmet out there right now? And I mean a normal helmet that your everyday park skier would wear not a racing storm trooper helmet.

i always wear a helmet when hitting jumps, trying new tricks with the possibility for a hard fall, or lapping frequently. when i hike rails, and just work on tuning up tricks that i have down, or work on new lower risk tricks, i dont usually wear a helmet.

I always wear mine. the only time I don't wear it is when the mountain has a total of 4 open track instead of 30. Like right now. I simply put my beanie on and goggles. but as soon as i'm doing stupid things, i put it back on!

This will be my first season skiing with a helmet. I feel that i have progressed enough in my ability that i am now trying more "dangerous" tricks and that i should probably protect myself a little more.

And Tom wears one and he's HELLA steezy!

I just don't feel as confident without a helmet. I concussed myself overshooting a jump to flat one day, cracked my helmet and all. Since then I wear mine whenever i'm skiing like I mean it. I like the helmet look as well. (when done properly)

i wear a helmet all the time now. a few years ago i refused to wear them because i have never liked how they felt on my head and would kind of throw me off. after numerous concussions i have come to the conclusion that they do help a lot. two weeks ago i got another concussion that i am still feeling the after effects of, i was wearing my helmet and am thankful because i would be a whole hell of a lot worse off than if i hadn't been wearing it at the time. its smart to wear them but i am not going to preach. just understand there isnt anyone to blame but yourself when you wake up in a hospital bed.

I've broken a good 4 helmets so I wouldn't ever consider skiing without one. The only time I don't wear one is when I'm giving a beginner help just as a friend and not trying anything crazy.

I've had about 2 concussions (car accident and I got mugged) and they suck hard. CAT scans are freakin expensive too.

Pretty much if I'm in the park or skiing anything harder than an intermediate run I wear one, I'm kinda enjoying not being a tard and I'd like to keep it like that.

I wear a helmet every time I ski. Keeps me warm up here in the north, saves my head from smashing open against a tree, and just gives that extra boost to the confidence. I think they are a good idea, but I don't go around preachin' to the masses that everyone should wear one.

yes. I've always worn one and always will. I watched my friend fall 15 feet onto his head while wearing a helmet and he still got a nasty concussion. He would have been dead if it wasn't for the helmet
