In regards to the original post: there was a story about this on the news this morning. It said that one of the reasons soda should be taken off the list of items one can buy on food stamps is that by drinking one can of soda a day a person with a sedentary lifestyle gains15 pounds a year.
The following is just a rant: I had a friend in Mammoth last year who lived with my bf and survived off food stamps and unemployment. As soon as his seasonal job ended he signed right up to feed from the public trough so he could ride all day. In order to do this he had to quit his part time job at a local restaurant. My bf and all their other roommates had to sign forms sating that they would not share their food with him. So with food stamps (and they do give you a list of things you can and can’t buy with said stamps) in hand and unemployment money in pocket he ate like a king and always had a steady stream of beer. But the thing that irritated me the most was that his parents also sent him money every couple of few weeks, he had more money not working every month than he had while working during the season. And he always thought it was his right to work the system like he did, and told other people they should try and do it too.
