Yeah, cuz I will be able to tell the performance of the wheel as I am driving to the grocery store........ oh wait. There was the exact same argument on audizine on this subject. I agree, if you are going to track your car and or just have the cash definitely go for the real wheels, but for just cruising around town for a DD there is no real benefit to buying the real thing if you don't have the cash. And don't give me the "oh but they don't bend as easy, and they save you gas money since they are lighter, etc. etc." bullshit. We all know that, but the people that buy fake wheels usually don't have the cash to buy the real thing so they aren't taking any business away from Volk, BBS, etc.
It is the exact same way with skiing. Why the hell would you sell a beginner an FKS or an STH16? They can't use all of the performance of that binding and would be able to get around just fine on a PX12 or a Z12. It is about buying what is appropriate for your application. I don't need race spec wheels if I am not racing or tracking my car.
