Helmet help

so i have a list i have made:
-Red trace
-Smith Holt park
-Giro Shiv
-Smith Maze
-Smith Holt

any info on the safety of of each helmet and pro's con's of any you have worn

i have experience with the maze and the trace. both are nice helmets. the trace fits much like a skateboard helmet and is a pretty solid feeling helmet. the only problem ive seen is the plastic shell often comes loose from the foam interior making it rattle a little.
the maze on the otherhand is hands down the lightest helmet ive seen. unlike the maze the shell and the interior foam are almost one piece. however this helmet seems as though it may lack the actually lasting protection and durability.

smith helmets are super solid.  I've had a hustle for 3 years and its held up so well.  go with the holt or maze.

if you have smith goggles then smith helmets will fit very well with them. that said, its less about how your goggles line up with your helmet and how it fits your head. go to a local shop and try on helmets to see which fits you most comfortably. if you don't really care to do this, every helmet you buy will come with a pad kit so you can dial in the size and comfort in your helmet to fit your head. so if you decide to just buy one online without checking it out, which really isn't that big of a deal, i would look at the smith helmets, because smith designs their goggles and their helmets to fit very well together. if you have the cash, i would get the maze. its the snow lightest helmet ever, and it will fit perfectly with your i/os, its called something, like airflo or some shit, but bottom line it will fit perfectly. also, all these helmets, for like $30 more will come with audio, which is really cool, if you wear the ear pads. but i personally don't wear them and just have a beanie underneath, so its irrelevent. so think about that also. and get something that you like the way it looks, that should be the last thing you think about, but you'll be wearing it for a while so get something you like.

I have the Giro Shiv and Smith I/O.  All Smith goggles have that buckle thing in the back, so it doesn't do so well with the goggle holder on the back of Giro helmets.  That doesn't matter to me, because I wear a beanie and the goggles underneath.  To me, that feels very comfortable and leaves me with literally no gaper gap.  Also, the Giro Shiv doesn't have velcro on the inside so it's really nice for wearing a beanie underneath.  But like the people said above me, Smith goggles go perfectly with Smith helmets, so if you wear the goggles over the helmet, get a Smith helmet.  But if you wear it under the helmet, you can't really go wrong either way, it's just more convenient to have the Shiv in this case.

okay so at this point i have basically narrowed it down to the shiv or the holt...
for some reason im not feeling the maze but some one help me make a choice!

i've got a smith holt and it goes PERFECT with my I/O's. i havent tried any of the others but i would suggest the holt for sure

i have a smith holt and i dont like it too much. i think its stupid how u cant take the earflaps out without taking out the damn liner. but, besides that its a pretty good helmet

like instead of just doing a little velcro and buttons, the earflaps go all the way under the liner so u have to take the liner out and put it back in. also wen u take the earflaps out, it takes out all of your back of your head couushining...for ever

wel it does. the ear flaps r attached to the back of the head-neck coushining. so if u take out the ear flaps u take out the back of the head padding too

smith holt= bombproof
and taking the earflaps out does NOT affect the padding of the helmet in any way.

i got the shiv and I like it alot, pretty light weight, obviously cant compete with the maze but pretty damn close. super warm and comfortable. goggles under / over doesnt matter. I havent had any life threatening crashes with it. but its def saved my head a few times. hope that helps
