I babysat when i was 14-16. at 16 i got my first 'real' job working at a cafe in a deli. I still work at that job every summer/break from school. slowly climbed up the ladder and now make 11.50/hr. not too bad, considering most of my job is just me hanging out with peopel i now consider my good friends (aka old ladies and some middle age people, plus my legit best friend). Last summer I didn't make nearly as much as I would have liked to cause i was also working an unpaid internship 3 days a week. I have a work-study job (secretary job, aka I get paid to do my homework) at school too, but that pays mostly for weekly expenses. this summer at 21 I'm going to be a freelance journalist for my local paper (I will get paid to do the work I did for free at my internship last summer) as well as work for the deli for the 5th year in a row. I'm extremely grateful my boss takes me back every summer/break.
On a different note, I'm studying abroad right now on a student visa, which means prevents me from getting any type of job (although I'm sure if I really wanted to work I could've). it's been weird not going to work at all the past 6 months. it's a nice change, but at the same time it sucks relying on your parents. I can't imagine ever having to do that year-round. this is a special occasion and I'm really lucky that they have supported me these past few months.but I'm looking forward to getting back to work and making my own money in a few weeks.
Well starting at 13, I mowed lawns in the summer, and shoveled snow in the winter for 2 years.
But right after I turned 15, I got a somewhat real job bussing tables, and that's what I'm doing now (my 15th birthday was in may).
