How many of you have jobs?

i searchbarred for this, and nothing came up, so i figured i would share my thoughts with the NS community. when i was 14 years old i got my first job at a fruit stand at the end of my road. i would work spring summer fall and they closed for the winter, letting me ski my lil heart away until spring again. i did this for 3 years, then worked as a lifeguard then park crew.

what i am getting at here is that i have had a job ever since i was old enough to work. now, looking back at all the high school and even college kids, many of them have never had a job. when i began tp drive, i had buy my own car, buy my own car insurance when i turned 18, and pay for gas.i have to buy all my ski gear, buy my pass, etc etc. however, as i look back, i just see parents forking over checks for this and credit cards for that. i am in no way jealous or angry, because the kids are the ones at a loss here seeing as they have no idea how to manage or earn money. but im just wondering, how many of you kids have a job, or dont, and how old are you?

i am your "college" student right here.

but you are generalising. i worked during the last 5-6 summers on construction sites, as a dishwasher, as a mountainbike-guide, as a high-ropes-course instructor and so on and so on...

i have no problem with working and i know where money comes from (i pretty much could live all-year from my summer-earnings) and buy skis, bikes, etc myself.

i for example had the "possibility" of working in a bank after high school. for fuckin 966 € or so. so i might as well try to raise that amount by livin a good life and studying for 3-4 years.

im 16. been working since 15
all year round afternoons and nights i work at a grocery store, summer mornings i work landscpaing

$10 an hour/untaxed is pretty fucking awesome

16 I've worked for the past two years at my mountain year round. Two winters in the park, and one summer building trophies and raking/ doing handwork on the motocross track, and one summer scraping towers and repainting them. I have to buy my first car and pay for gas but I get insurance until I'm 18. As far as ski gear goes, I have to buy everything but my helmet and boots beacuse my parents know that I wouldn't wear one and that I'd cram my feet into my old boots.

im 15 and i i cean boat bottoms interdependently, so i don;t have a boss to answer to and i am making good money, 70$ in around 2 hours the last time i cleaned 2 boats

No job and few aspirations of getting one. I'll travel till I'm dry, and refuel on 1 week temp stints under the table for food and gear upgrades.

I've had a job since 13 (last summer). I helped a local potter around his studio because its pottery and a lot of things got dirty, I a also did random odd jobs for him. My school needed to get special working papers for me that they normally didn't have. I worked like 4 times a week for 5 hrs.
Made some good money over that summer.

Now I'm 14 (going on 15) and the summer has started I am going for a babysitting class and want to start dog walking and pet sitting. My family was great connections in the neighborhood with people that need babysitting and they would also tell other people if I do a good job. (my mom's friends with the neighbor hood mom that everyone looks to for advice). Plus I'll probably still do some big jobs with the potter I worked for last year.

I'm 16 and i teach dance to little kids in the spring summer and fall. its a pretty sweet job i make over 60 bucks an hour but i have to do the hoedown throwdown about eighty times a day...

hahah I'm also a college student and I work about 30 hours (+/- 5 hpw) at 22.50 an hour

pays for my ski season, car insurance, cell phone in 3 months plus living money!

I love my job

17 and work at a local restaurant. It's not much but enough to get by. My parents don't pay for all my shit like a lot of this kids on here.

16, working at a gated community currently in the rec department, i help run a mini-camp, work the game room, work mini golf and fitness center, its easy money, i just bought my own first car yesterday and im going monday to get my insurenced started and payed, my dad lives in jersey so he doesnt give me any money what so ever and my mom will throw me a 5 doller bill sometimes when shes happy, besides that i get nothing

Yea its a lot of work but its definitely worth it. Plus I need a completely new setup this winter (ski gear and outerwear), all out of my pocket. I'm not really worried about making that much this summer thought with all I've saved.

I'm fourteen and this will be my second year worming. Last year I just cut a few lawns here and there and made some decent cash. This year o expanded on that buisness and am cutting six lawns a week. I also teach junior golf at our golf club. Although I get paid in shop credit, it all counts as volunteer work. Also my golf shop carries Oakley, so I can get anything from them at about 40% off because they have special pricing.

im 18, ive worked at a grocery store since the summer of 2008 and and ice cream shop in the spring/summer of 2007. i get shit for hours (15-20/week) at about $8/hr and i can basically make enough in the summer for books at college and ski season.

at school, i have a work study job which gets me a maximum $2000 for the entire year (you have to be eligible for it, and its basically scholarship money you earn)

i dont have a car of my own yet, but i pay the additional fee my parents receive for having me on the plan. i also pay for half of the satellite internet bill since im the one who uses it the most.

i have been mowing and weed whacking at my house to pay off any kind of debt to my parents i have for the past 4 years, and have worked at my moms business for lawn care, cleaning, and some graphic design work for the past 5 years as well.

for how long ive been working, im surprised at how little i have really saved. then i think about all the skiing, and the fact i dont get many hours a week and have basically only worked summers all those years.

I'm 19 and home from college for the summer. The past 3 summers I've worked in a mechanical assembly plant but they didn't hire anyone this year because of the economy. I used to teach guitar lessons at a music store too but when I left to go to school they got some old dude to replace me. There are legit NO jobs in my town so I've just been mowing lawns and hanging out. Lucky for me I'm frugal as fuck so I have a shit ton of money sitting in the bank but still it sucks not being productive.

16 i work as a dishwasher. make 8/hour under the table cash. my parents dont buy my ski stuff. The only things my parents buy me is like shirts and pants haha.

i'm almost 17 an i have 3 jobs. i work at a gourmet grocery store, (whole foods/stew leonards esque, but on a much smaller scale), a kids day camp and at a big music venue.

work at a textbook company grading used books to be put on amazon.com Everyone makes at least 12 an hour. I get paid by book and average around $24/hour and can get up to 28-30/hour
It will end friday but I will have a job at an architectural firm as an intern, and I have a third job working on an architectural project for someone else.

kinda, my gf's parents own a restaraunt downtown Chicago and they call me up if they need any help.. other than that i applied to like 10 places (Jewel, Jimmy Johns, Target, Noodles&Co, Chipotle, etc..) i need a job badly i waited way to long to apply

20 years old.  I've had a summer job since I was 15.  Started with clean-up crew at a mill (part time, 4 months), then a general clerk at safeway (full time, couple months), started college, worked landscaping (2 summers) and a bit of construction (couple of months), graduated college (commercial aviation diploma), worked at shoppers drug mart (part time, couple of months).  Got my first legit job as a Flight Coordinator for Air Tindi.  Now I'm working there, waiting to get on as a pilot when a spot opens up.

I've also worked as a vet tech, and I have remodeled three houses.

ive been mowing lawns since i was about 12 during the summer.

worked part time 15 and 16.

worked full time during the summer and part time during fall ever since i was 16.

im 17, i help my dad with construction during the summer, he doesnt really pay me much, but my parents deal is, work a bit, stay in sports do good in school and they hook me up with gas and shit.

i've been trying to get an actual job though, but the economy iskinda in the shitter haha

13.75 year old

and since i can get working paper yet i just mow lawns(steadily) and sometimes get things like mulching parts of peoples yards/being someones mexican for a day. once i get working papers i plan on snagging a job at a nearby ski shop

I'm 20 and I work 42.5 hours a week for livenation. And when we have concerts you can an extra 20-40 hours on the weeks check depending on how many concerts we have in one week.

You can get a farm permit at that age (at least in NY). It doesn't do much but at least if people ask you can say you have papers, just don't mention that they are farm work only. This will work for almost everything minus factory work and anything with working for a corporate company like dollar tree for example.

what the hell is your job title. where do you make $12 an hour and get tips. and why are you only getting $4 in tips thats pretty shitty tipping. everything about that statement confuses me. waiters make about $2 an hour.
