I spent a good portion of my childhood reading star wars books. Timothy Zhan KILLED it. I think he wrote another one called outbound flight, good read. Also, the Darth Bane Trilogy is fuckin sick.

I was a pretty big Star Wars geek read a lot of the background story books too. Like some of the books way more than the movies. I'm waiting on the new family guy episode for return of the jedi to come out. Maybe it has? I don't really pay attention to lots of things.

The original trilogy owned. They seriously messed up the potential of what the new movies could have been by catering to a younger audience. $$$

Empire is my personal favorite.

Though being something of a fanboy, the books were really awesome.   The books that I think are a must-read are:

The thrawn trilogy.

Shadows of the empire (what takes place between empire and jedi).



There are many other good ones, but i have read those the most.

Definitely Return of the Jedi, the ending with the three different battles is the best. But hoth is definitely my favorite part of the original three. Revenge of the Sith was pretty good too but you cant really compare the newer ones to the old ones.

The Phantom Menace wasn't TOO bad but the two with Hayden Christiansen.... the best parts were when you don't see Anakin because of him.

The other problem I think is that even though it was in the past all the technology looks to be more futuristic than what they had during the original 3 which take place later.

menace was the worst imo
1. no clear way to tell who the main character is
2. force was ruined for me the whole mitochlorian count in blood stream.
3. your forced into a "liking" Anakin
4. no character to relate too. no one normal, yet unique, like Luke
4. Jar Jar Binks
5. choreographed lightsaber duels. the best part of the old light saber fights was the passion and fury, you could tell luke was pissed off. it looked way too smooth and planned in the prequels


overall, prequels=death of star wars

the excessive lightsaber battles really pissed me off. In the OG New Hope, there is one small (yet big) light saber battle, one little trainin sesh, and one arm lopped off in the catina. One pretty big ass one in episode v (and a hole lopped in the at at), and two in vi. In the prequels, there was like 500,000 lightsaber battles. So overdone, agreed they were so choreographed, so boring. They lost all meaning and weight, since there would be another about ten minutes later.

menace was the best to me (of the new 3)

the second one was just godawful all around.

and the third was just overly dramatic and annoying.

but phantom menace had PODRACING which was super sick. and a dude with a two sided lightsaber. also sick.

The second prequel was a fucking soap opera. It got really annoying because it focused way too much on padme and anakin. Unfortunately this love story shit completely overshadowed the battle in the stadium and the battle on Genosis, i thought both were actually pretty cool, but unfortunately the movie as a whole was terrible so those two scenes are overlooked.

In the Revenge of the Sith, the execution of "order 66" scene was incredibly well done IMO. It was so damn emotional and sad. Both the music and camera work were done perfectly and i think it was the best scene all of the three prequels.

Oh man Timothy Zhan's books were so good. There was that duology and the trilogy. Hand of thrawn was the two books right? Big time childhood memories. Had like 4 of the "The essential guide to ___" books too. The one with the spaceships and vehicles, along with history and schematics was my fav. Incredibly nerdy, but it was cool to just get into it and think about what it would be like if it was real...


And for the best prequel, I'm thinking Revenge of the Sith. So dark, so much raw emotion. It tied all the happy bullshit from the first two into the original trilogy. Kinda put it into perspective a little more for watching the other three a bit to me.

wrong...... that saber battle was nothing compared to when yoda fights in revenge. best light saber battle hands down was darth maul against obi one and qui gon. i cried a little when maul died... he was badass!

I like the new ones.  CGI > Story for me at least.  I don't think the older ones are bad but if i wanted to learn a story i'd read a book.  If i want to see crazy battles i watch a movie.  That said i'm not ripping on the old ones im just saying revenge of the sith wins for me.

Man thats a tough call. Any of the original trilogy though. A New Hope was great, lots of story, great starter. Empire Strikes back was sick but kind of drug on in places. Jedi was just epic in so many different ways. Gah I need to watch these again.

i was just wondering if they were on blu ray the other day as well. they need to release the ORIGINAL versions of the original 3 on blu ray. not the extended versions they re released in the 90s. because thats all they have on dvd now, and they changed songs and stuff, which i dont like.
