i just disabled the fan and vacuumed all the vents.

take 2 q-tips take off the foamy whatever shit, and then sticmk them in so it stops the fan, keep your xbox on until it shuts down, and then vacuum the bastard.

or just try it without disabling the fans, probably the same shit

if it 3/4 redrings wrap it up in a towel (like cover all the vents) and just leave it on until it overheats
theres this safety thing in it that automatically shuts it down
may sound like bs but we did that to my friends and got it to work for a while
you can do it again and again but eventually you have to go to microsoft

To everyone that gets the 3 rings, don't panic right away. More times than not, the Xbox is not what overheated, it is that bulky power adapter. You can tell this if when you turn on your Xbox if the light on the adapter is red. That means it short circuited. There are a few solutions, you could let it cool off over night, don't use a fan, just leave it in your basement or somewhere where it is cold. Or, this doesn't work all the time, but you could switch the outlet in which the adapter is connected, sometimes that helps.

the towel thing is basically the same as using q-tips, they both stop the fan and have it overheat.

You can fix it by removing the x-braces and putting in regular nuts and bolts. Then reapply the old dried up thermal compound on the CPU and GPU. Add a small piece of sheet aluminum .032" thick to the GPU between the processor and heat sink. Then put a note card blocking the fan from reaching the GPU (smaller heatsink) and leave it on for about 15 minutes. Let it cool down, then try it normally. This works in almost all cases. If this still doesn't work, you can take a heat gun and run it over the board, focusing on the gpu and cpu.  If you really want to do it pm me and I can give you specific directions.

Dont try to fix 3/4 red ring, send it in! 3/4 is always under warranty, a buddy tried telling me that but i didnt believe him cause my standard warranty of 3 years was up, but i registered it online and instead of paying 100 dollars to ship it i payed nothing, my xbox is currently in Texas getting fixed

if my x-box burns out, i'm calling up microsoft and bitching at them until i get it either fixed or a new one. i didn't pay $400 on the console alone to limit my playing time because its going to burn out, i'm going to have that thing running night and day if i so please. i have the right to because i dropped somewhere around 500 and change (including everything else i buy ie. games/controllers) because i thought enough of their product to give them my business. if they can't produce a product for that kind of money i'm giving them, i'm going to sony. and i'll get free fucking live with it.

but if you ever have a problem, rant this on microsoft's customer service. they'll take care of you. don't spend a dime. if they refuse, go to the manager and be a dick

i got the 3/4 ring on my old xbox, sold it on ebay for 60 bucks, bought a console only with hdmi for 70. lost 10 bucks and got a working hdmi console within a week. that one has lasted me like a year or more maybe but i very rarely play xbox
