Popularity of longboarding

i feel like longboarding is becoming another "cool thing to do".

is it just me? or do other people feel this way too?

i already showed my disdain for the idiocy going on in this thread.

but i would like to add that if i longboard to my morning class i can get there 8 minutes earlier than if i walk.  and 15 minutes earlier than if i drive (parking is like a mile away) this is almost always the difference between being late and losing credit, or being on time and getting credit.

agreed, i got my first long board in 5th grade, everyone thought i was gay. HA!

but really i see a bunch of "bros" riding sector 9's with flip flops in crouded groups of people, looking like real douchers.

you see someone riding a loaded, rayne, lanyachtz, etc and its almost safe to say they know whats up

I do feel like its sorta becoming the "cool" thing to do but theres always gonna be trend whores... Its like skiing or anything else tho, if you love it and you ride hard who cares if theres a bunch of other kids doing it.. I guess I have a little different perspective cuz I build my own boards and slide and cross step and all that nonsense but the "cool" kids with Sector 9 pintails (no offense if you ride one, I rip it up on my buddy's Sector 9 every once in a while) that don't know what they're doing don't take away from the sport at all for me. I ride to class daily and I've seen more and more kids on boards so the popularity is definitely on the rise but theres always gonna be a separation between the trend whore poser kids and people that can rip hard and ride cuz they love it... As gay as trend whoring is it exposes a lot more people to a relatively little known sport and it might get some kids hooked that never would have even thought about longboarding. Trend hookers will loose interest soon enough and move on to the next "cool" thing but I love riding my board and the diehards will always be around... Idk just my 2 cents on the matter

also, if they're not actually into it, they wont last long.  no one bombs a hill at 40+ mph unless they enjoy the rush and can control their board. 99% of trendwhores will quit after their first spill

The scariest experience of your life was getting yelled at by an old lady? You haven't like almost died or something? Or overshot a jump? This one time I overshot a pretty big jump and it was way scarier than this one time an old lady yelled at me and threatened to call the cops.

i started longboarding like 4-5 years ago when it wasn't really known... I used to make them myself in my shop class. But yeah I agree, people are longboarding who shouldn't be... who don't get what its about.

I can see where your coming from though man, trend whores piss me off, like the kids who get there parents to by them nice skateboards or longboards and seriously just carry them around. At my school some kids just carry theirs and every once and a while step on, just to be unbalanced and fall.

i'm simply saying what steeze_is_good said...

the people that just have one and the most they do with it is barely ride it on a sidewalk.

the same thing with skateboarders who just carry their board around and stand in the skatepark "looking cool" and dont do anything

or with skiing. the kdis with all the new shit their parents bought them and just stand at the top of the park and maybe hit a box.

or with snowboarding. or any sport..

all i'm saying or asking, is that i think that longboarding has started to become like that... before this past spring you never saw that.

I bomb hills to get down them not to cruise across them like a pussy. The fact is bombing a hill a skateboard is much harder without the added stability and large ass wheels. Plus I'll take power sliding going fast than "sliding" on a longboard.

Uhhh... You're a fag.

Bombing hills on a longboard is as intense/difficult if not more than a skateboard. And sliding is a lot harder because of the softer wheels and bigger deck to get to slide. And longboarding isn't JUST to commute, although its useful for it, longboarding is also fun as shit and carving down a hill is incredible. You can't carve on a skateboard.

yeah there are a lot more people on longboards now, but also you are just noticing it more because its spring time. A lot of the people I see on campus are indeed noobs, some just walk with their longboard in their hand. I only do that if i'm walking with someone adn talking to them. I see the claim tool perspective as well, but there are a lot of chill legit people that longboard. I shred mine hard every day.

Weird as Im typing this I see a landyachtz ad on ns. If I had a nickel for every time I've passed a shortboarder while I'm going down a hill I'd have quite a bit of money. Of course going down a hill on a short board is easy with tight ass trucks and tiny hard wheels cuz youll only go 20km/h max. I did it in grade 6, then I found out about longboarding and I could go a lot faster which for me and a lot of other people is a lot more fun.

I can cruise across the hills all I want, I'm still gonna make it to the bottom twice as fast as you. The fact is, skateboarding is legit... in a skatepark. They aren't made for hill bombing and you probably just look like an idiot if you are.
