A Jay Peak Contest.
At Jay Peak, we love stories. Tell us yours and win a Spring Skiing weekend at Jay with 3 friends + Newschoolers crew.

Here’s how to do it—pick two words that explain why you love us (Deep. Trees. , Fresh. Beer. , etc) and then write 100 words why you think you and your friends deserve to win a weekend trip to Jay Peak this spring. Post your words and explanation here in this thread. Winner will take a road trip with 3 friends and the Newschoolers crew, staying 2-nights in the new Tram Haus Lodge and not only being the star of a news story for the site, but getting featured in the Jay Peak Magazine.

Contest starts: March 25 and will last 2 weeks only so get writing.
Entries must be submitted by April 8th. Midnight is the cut off.
Entries should be submitted by posting in this thread.
Winner will be chosen by Newschoolers + Jay Peak and announced on Monday April 12th.

Prize: Weekend getaway on April 16th – 17th. Winner + 3 friends + Newschoolers crew.

I fucking love powder. I fucking love the East Coast. This is why Jay Peak is the best mountain in the East. Me and my friend deserve a weekend at Jay because I've yet to ski with any of them this winter. I've had LESS THAN 20 DAYS ON SNOW this year due to my bad back. Now that I've finished up PT and am nearly at 100% there would be nothing better than closing out the season with my best buddies and the NS crew. Pick me because I used to be a cripple and I'm not anymore.

Steep & Deep.

Well considering I live in New Jersey I dont have much luck in terms of finding powder, never really skied a real mountain. Sure I still have a ton of fun with my friends messing around on my hill they call a mountain but I really would like to experience some real skiing before I go away to college where I wont have the chance to ski. My weeklong trip to breck was cancelled so this is my last chance. Thanks for reading you jay peak people.

"Hey, get the fuck up you lazy peice of shit," said my brain after sleeping in for five minutes, "you have to go ski some gnar at Jay Peak." As I dragged myself out of bed I made sure I didn't stick to my usual plan of brushing my teeth and all that shit. Instead, I put on my 80's mogul gear and headed out the door. I smelled like a raunchy mother fucker, but at least I got to shred some of them mogs all day long. that is one hundred words including the ones i just typed now.

     When I think about the east, my mind immediately imagines ice, rain, & clouds. When I think of Jay Peak, I think of a young and inspiring skiers utopia. I’ve never been to Jay Peak so I ceased this opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream. I ski at resort mountains in the west such as Breckenridge, and have always dreamed about the mysterious mountains in the east. Jay Peak is the ultimate destination for anyone, but I believe I want it more than anyone. I’ve never traveled out of state to ski and this golden opportunity is my only shot. EndFragment

One Chance

“I’m disappointed in you.  I’m sooo very disappointed.  You could’ve landed it but you DIDN’T!  Go into the corner!”  I start getting beat with old ski poles for not landing a misty 7. I cry out, at the top on my lungs, “MOM!!” breathing heavily. “My season doesn’t HAVE to be over!  I can still land that trick” “What are you talking about.  Your resort and all the others ones around us have already closed.  Get back in the corner.” “Just give me a chance……. just one chance!”  “I could go to Jay Peak and LAND it!” “One chance……or else.”

Snow & Trees!

The abundant amount of snow and tree skiing is the reason myfriends and I love Jay Peak. However, this winter skiing season has been atough one. We have had miniscule amounts snow around us. Also, injuries havebeen abundant this season for my friends and I. And the worst part is all thelocal mountains are closing earlier than usual cutting our season short. Receivingthis trip would be a great way to turn this season around and get a chance toski an awesome mountain on the east coast to end our season perfectly.

God Damn!

So last season I skied jay for the 1st time. Hit a rail, fell, sliced my shin open, got staph infection, now have a permanent scar. This occured while skiing with my friend Ross. Fast forward to today. I'm sitting on my couch with a broken tibia that occurred at stowe march 5th, the first day of my spring break.59 This happened while skiing with Ross's twin brother Steve, must be a curse. Due to my season ender, I can't attend the battle for burlington at jay this saturday =(. I attend college in burlington and would love to take Ross, Steve, and buddy Joe to Jay, but I'll still be on crutches that weekend so....

Maybe Next season?

THEM APPLES!

How you like them apples? Jay Peak is them apples because Jay = the essence of skiing. We all work hard (preschool teacher, ski instructors) so we can afford to ski, while going to college (graduate and undergrad) and getting good grades! Skiing = life. We work to ski, and go to school so we can make more money to work less and ski more! We party hard and ski harder. Please send some wicked hard working cute girls and a few cool dudes to end our season with a well deserved trip to the greatest place on earth…..Jay Peak.

Not to be debbie downer, I love skiing, but that is the opening weekend of trout season and that is kind of a big deal down here. Besides I was there twice already this year...../claim.

The Thrill

The Snow is melting and I’m due for a damn good adventure.  The thrill we get when we ski - the feeling that rushes through our body that we all know and love so well - that's what it's about. Two girls that I’d take with me are studying abroad in Australia (lucky bitches) while I'm stuck in PA. Pick me, and I’ll pick three other NSers. Why the hell not? Snow is melting away for the season and I'd love to have one last weekend to live it up with some good people that chase the same thrill.

Adventure Needed


Although my friends and I adore our mountain its not easy to keep things interesting. We work our asses of for mount snow to ski there and we still get stoked at every dumping, every new feature and every new tree line we find. Most importantly, my friends are the best. They’ve given up a lot to ski as much as they do, we’ve helped each other through every injury and they’ve taught me more about skiing, life and true happiness than anyone. I think this trip would be the best way to repay them for all theyve done for me and for mount snow.

So me and my friend and his dad are like a ski posse. we try and ski as much as we can. we havent been since march 7th and we are craving more. we could really use some good old steep skiing. and moguls and trees. anyway none of us have been to jay and ALL REALLY WANT TO GO. we love skiing so much and need to go. when we go to our home mtn. we do laps all day. we need variety badly. please. we want to go to beautiful jay peak. thank you. we ski hard.

free babysitting.

I have 3 young kids. Babysitting is expensive, so we don't ski much. Jay ROCKS and offers free snow daycare, which my kids loved. I can ski, enjoy a beer apres ski, and know that the kids are having a blast!

My 2 cents    ..............    TREES & ATMOSPHERE

  My 1st day was SCARY, I was shitting my britches, the trails were "Frozen Granular" and all I could do was ride my back edge in fear. Kris insisted the woods would have better conditions, I was hesitant, but will try anything, sure enough it was BEAUTY! I instantly feel in love.  I have been to several mountains and not one of them compares to the glades and laidback, hardcore atmosphere of Jay.  The night before going, neither one of us get any sleep from the excitement of riding Jay, it never goes away and I don't want it to.

Epic Season.
Since opening day I have been at Jay non-stop. Every weekend I make the three and a half hour trek; whether for a day trip or a weekend of couch surfing. This season was my first discovery of what I personally believe is the most epic terrain of any resort anywhere. Starting way outside Andre's and continuing up through Big Jay and Little Jay; exploring what jay has to offer has opened my eyes to a world I never thought possible. The endless bounty that is the Jay Peak Backcountry has changed me forever, and I like what its done. Whether or not I win this contest you can rest assured, my friends and I will be at Jay the weekend of the seventeenth, just like every weekend.

Beer & Beret

My buddy and I made a late April weekend jaunt to Jay last year to enjoy the soft snow, mild breezes and renowned glades. At around 3:30 on Sunday, our knees were sapped of strength but our hearts were stubborn, so we decided to hop aboard the tram with a couple of brews stashed in our snow pants (we couldn't put them in our jackets because we had already tossed our jackets in the Jeep, along with miscellaneous items, during lunch when temps warmed) for a last hurrah. We sat atop Green Beret, sipped our liquid elixirs and took in the sights for one last time. After about an hour of sitting in a late afternoon open eyed ski coma (the kind that only happens when you've pushed your body for eight rocky hours), we negotiated with our palsied thighs to get up and take us down the hill. Upon reaching the bottom, we took off our skis, trudged into the lodge and a changed into fresh clothes for the car ride home. We then left the lodge, walked straight to the car, ski bags in hand, and drove home under the misguided impression that, during lunch, we had already packed away all of the essentials. My buddy got to my house, popped open the trunk and I swept it for my all of my belongings - only to discover that all of my belongings were not there. It seems that in our sluggish late day haste, we both forgot to pack our skis. Couldn't make this shit up. Of course, they were resting comfortably on a rack outside of Hotel Jay and were mailed to their unworthy owners the next day.

No Fear

I was born and raisedJay, and I play to die Jay. I’ve skied over 60 times this year; back flipping off cliffs in Big Jay, throwingmy first 9, and shredding the trees like only a Vermonter can. My best friendand I have been filming the gnar at Jay this year in everything from thesub-zero to the mid-sixties. I deserve this weekend at my favorite place in theworld because I put the extra effort in this season to elevate my game to ahigher level for this very reason; throwing down with the NS crew.

Ski Sex

Seriously though, nothing would mean more to me than winning this contest. And yes i look up to a mountain that's as beautiful as yours, and no im not going to dangle from you guys like the rest of the kids here on ns, but what i say is truly from the heart . Fortunately, my 3 friends and I all live on the same street. We as passionate skiers don't get to ski as often as the people here on ns. Living in GODDAMN MIDDLE OF NOWHERE ILLINOIS (aka the prairie state)  our closest park is a couple hours away with a terrain park smaller than the bunny hills in the west or the god given east.  And we struggle so hard  to get every last dollar to pay for gas and tix.  And as for me, i've only gotten to ski a couple times this year due to a dislocated shoulder with a torn labrum and AC. But my injury is least of my concerns. My friends have done so much for me this season, knowing my lack of ski days they decided to only ski a couple times this year for my sake. They have also put the time and dedication into my rehab so i could ski the last to days of the season at a small spring jam session 4 hours from where we live.not to mention this is probably my last year skiing because i just dont have enough money to ski and also eat, its one or the other. If I don't get to ski, at least i owe it to my friends.  Anyways, I know i'm probably not going to win but i hope you guys read this and at least know the conditions in which we come from and the time and passion we put into the sport. Not to mention we all slay fucking hard.  Jah Love

Pure mountain

     I had always been a fan of Northern Vermont ever since my first year there. I had been out west and still managed to fall in love with the Green Mountains not just my first time but every time after as well. I was fortunate enough to bring my friend to northern Vermont in the midst of his battle with cancer, nonetheless he had the time of his life skiing; I was more than pleased, yet regret i hadn't been able to show him and myself the place they call Jay Peak. It wasn't until my fourth time in the region that I had ridden Jay Peak. I had been to Stowe and Smuggs, and riding Jay Peak for the first time brought to me a whole new meaning to not only the Green Mountains, but to pure mountain riding. Two months previously before my trip to Jay Peak I had broken and dislocated my wrist riding, going through surgery, having my wrist turned into a bionic limb with a screw and five pins crammed in my wrist to hopefully heal it. In spite of my injury, my passion for riding was still alive and well; I lied to my doctor about not riding the rest of the year and continued with my trip to Northern Vermont. I remember getting to Jay Peak and looking up the Tram line and thinking, "This is exactly why I ride". Jay Peak was a new utopia to me from the moment I saw the Peak sticking out like a  big white thumb. Me and my best friends spent the whole day in the glades and powder, all of us experiencing some of the best riding we had ever done. I had nearly forgotten about my metel infused wrist, casted and covered with a plastic bag and over-sized mitten if it wasn't for my pins pulling at my skin. Every turn I made on the mountain made me neglect my pain. Tuckerman's Chute, Beaver Pond, Green Beret, etc. they all reminded me that it is never where the mountian is but what the mountain has to offer. Jay Peak offered some of the best terrain and riding environment I had ever ridden. I mean hell it made me forget about a broken wrist! From one day of riding Jay it was undoubtedly one of the best mountains I had ever ridden. The day ended around 3:30 when my buddy Jake made frieds with a tree in Beaver Pond and broke his rib, but I specifically remember sitting in the middle of an opening in Beaver Pond and looking up at the fresh tracks as snow began to fall once more upon them from the infamous Jay Cloud. Jay Peak offered itself to me and I have never wanted to go back to a mountain more in my life. Jay Peak is the epitome of what skiing and snowboarding stands for me and what is the base of all riding, pure mountain.

Real Pow

To tell you the truth, I can't say I have ever skid fresh powder. I live in a city where the only mountain within an hour has a 110 foot vert. And the next closest isn't much better. This would be alright if my family skid. Unfortunately they don't, not even one person. So I have to resort to going with my friends families on vacations. Woohoo! A 600 foot vert! Jay has 2153 feet of vertical. I would end off my year with a bang as right now I'm resorting to hiking my home hill, which close a week ago. I would love this trip and would love to ski pow from all the stories I've heard. PLEASE JAY HELP ME

Never Been

Have hardly been anywhere to ski. Went 55 days last year and had a fantastic season, this year i got off to college and BOOM 8 days of skiing, with subpar conditions everytime, o yeah at my hill with like 600 vertical. Would love to really SKI the east, no one loves more getting up before the sun rises to be first on the chair and this trip would be greatly appreciated. I've also never heard anything bad about Jay Peak, and my friends and I all share the passion that fuels this website that we're on, the True love for skiing, any way, any style, any where. Thanks.

One Love

Skiing. The greatest form of transportation on the planet. I have skiied southern vermont for the last 14 out of 17 years of my pretty short life (the thought of many years to come puts a smile on my face). Its funny you guys put three spaces because I have three of the best friends you could ask for. Not to make a sob story, but due to a series of unfortunite events with my mother and her boyfriend, (and a few cops) I had to move from my home town into a new highschool. I dont get to see the three people who have gotten me through everything and have trenched through everything themselfs nerly as much as I want to. If money wasnt a problem I would be skiing Jay right now. Heres to a perfect world!

Unexpected,ecstasy.

Throught the winter, the east coast received more rain than snow. I was so used to ice, I had to sharpen my skis every night, just to keep a good level of enjoyment. When I finaly had a break in my schedule, I packed my powder skis and park skis hoping for some good weather. I tried calling all my skiing buddies, but none could get free from the grid on reality.  When I arrived monday, I was informed that it snowed a foot and a half. So I hurried to Jay Peak and went exploring. After a full day of happiness, I found myself at the pub explaining the best parts of the day. On my second day, the conditions were groomed powder. I was carving `the Jet" while atteining some record speeds. In my head, the only thing I could think or say ressembled an orgasm. In the afternoon I took my camera and filmed shots in the woods and glades to get some pow shots in my end of year segment. I took my tripod set up the cam and walked up every shot. When the night arrived, once again I found myself writting to all my friends back home how much this day ruled. On my last day, the 2" that were forecasted became 2 feet. This time, I left the camera in the car and enjoyed flotting on this new snow. After spending a few days, I knew the best places for pow drops and set my day goal of hucking as many as I could. At first the ridge gave me some of the sickest drops. I could hear the crowd cheering me on from the summit tram house. A sudden rush of adrenaline made skiing the ridge without feeling the fatigue of short jumps turns through the fresh snow. After dinner, I set out to Andres glades to find hidden drops near the out of bounds. While cossing to get to the glades, the snow got deeper, much deeper. Less and less people skied this area, so I took the oportunity to make blind jump into the deep sugar! Around 4 in the afternoon, most of the powder has been skied and my fatigue level was hidden by the ecstasy, created from this unexpected last day... It was the best drive home, 4 hours away!

Sorry for the long story, but these 3 days, I never stopped smiling.

Jay Way

Jay is Way up there, in the land of curds and Way.  And the skiing is Way out there –no restrictions, and boundaries that are no-Wayre to be found.  That makes us all Way happy, and always willing to hit the HighWAY.  The mountains and trees, the glades and the chutes, Jay is Wayre we go when we want to escape.  That is the Jay Way.  My friends and I hope, that you Way in and vote, so we can Move Up, Way Up, to Jay on April 17th.

Golf Season

Disregard the fact that Jay still has plenty of snow. Likely the best coverage anywhere on the east coast. I know this because I was there this past weekend and if you saw someone straight lining the jet or doing DH style runs down Can Am in as few turns as possible that was me. Nothing better than a bluebird day at Jay in the Spring. As cool as it would be to win this contest I'm ineligible because I have an exam that weekend, which is funny because the last contest I couldn't enter because I wasn't a full time student. Oops, I'm now at 146 words which also voids my entry but I wish I could have made it to rip around in gaper gear with the NS jay Crew. I'm seriously stoked on the upcoming golf season and hope to Play Jay this summer.

Eastcoast. Treasure.

I've had the privilege of riding hills and mountains across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and B.C., but nothing compares to the atmosphere and gnar of the terrain found at Jay. Tight east coast glades that hold white pockets of (hopefully) knee/waist deep pow, epic views to be had from all over the mountain, and real fucking skiers who have no problem helping visitors find the good stuff; what more could you ask for? Riding in April after my birthday with friends and the NS crew would be the perfect end to what has been an awkward season in Ontario. Raise’me Jay!

Two words: Great Memories

I'm not talking about me, but about my dad and his buddies. He used to ski Jay Peak all the time and like they tell me every time, their best times with their friends was when they were at Jay together. Best story is when my dad's good friend stole the Jay Peak sign off the highway and put it on the roof of his car. He didn't have straps or any thing so decided to hold it. It was a cold winter night, once the cops turned on their lights and were about to do a U turn to go after him, he let go of the sign. He lost the sign, but his hand was all frost bitten! They still laugh about this story all the time and keep telling me how amazing Jay is. Unfortunately, the only times I've gone was when I was to little to remember, and every time i want to go, my friends don't feel like going any where they don't have a pass for. So this trip would be perfect! I get to have a great time with my friends like my dad used to do with his friends, and my friends would complain because it would be free!! I want to experience Jay with my friends and have an amazing time!!

Just Right

Just like the rap game of the 90’s, skiing in America is divided between East and West. Those of us that were born on the Right side have a die hard loyalty to where we grew up, no matter how small or icy. Our one shinning star is a mountain that seems to come out of nowhere. A resort whose annual snowfall rivals many West Coast mountains. Jay is more than deep pow, steep lines or cheap tickets. It’s a place where more people speak French than English and where you can get fries with cheese and gravy. But in all seriousness, Jay is something that all East Coasters can be proud of. It’s a powder destination that you drive to, not fly and it’s where I want to spend my third weekend in April.

SIC TRIP!

Jay Peak, I have a proposition. For the last 30 years we have had a Ski Industries Club (SIC) and a Ski Industries Program here at UMaine Farmington, unfortunately, the administration here doesn't feel that we fit the mold of an education (teaching) university. Thus, we have been terminated. Why didn't they want us around? Because we party, ski hard, enjoy life, all well maintaining one of the best grade averages on campus. So now we're looking for one last hoorahh, bring all 20 of us to Jay Peak, we'll sleep on the floor, the kitchen table, anything works, and we'll rage Jay Peak in good ole SIC style! Viva la SIC!

It’s Heaven

Jay is my favorite mountain, nothing is better than jays glades. Everything about jay is what’s skiing should be, gnarly lines, crazy trees, awesome pow.  The two weeks I have spent at jay are some of the best memories of my life I would give almost anything to get there this season. I am a broke college student and can’t afford a room, tickets and gas or any of those three for that matter. SO please send my sorry ass to jay.

REAL. SNOW.

c'mon as we all know if u live in ontario ur mostly screwed as far as powder and good snow come like i got blue mountain (ain't no mountain) and we have the most comprehensive snow making technoloy in all of canada but really thats fake icy snow that for a person who loes a good glades run is quite crappy man i love powder like i wasss sooooo disapointed i was just out to banff too but got zero snow so even there i was skiing cruddy snow so please jay peak and newschoolers i need some powder this season i have had litterally none

deep and gnar !

I fucking love shredding powder. There is nothing quite like it! I love the feeling of flying down the slopes, sending snow everywhere behind me. The rush of the speed, it amazing, and hitting jumps, and pulling off wicked tricks in the process, makes it that much better. I find skiing to be an artform, whether, you are shredding pow, pulling big air, slaying rails, or racing through gates. Everyone has their own style, and is able to make this rad sport into something of their own. Skiing is what gets me through every day, it is my hobbie, my ocupation, my passion.

Trees. Seclusion.

 

Let me take you back to August of 2010. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, I had BIG plans for the 09/10 season. I ordered a beautiful pair of ON3P Jeronimo’s expecting to slay the entire mountain, East and West Coast! I spent 2 months planning a trip to Utah with my girl. After finalizing plans I was told that it was going to be a “family” Vacation and was left out of skiing 34 inches of powder at Alta. I thought that would open an opportunity for summer camp. But no, I got a hole in my radiator and a broken catalytic converter that set me back $1200. On top of it all the Jeronimo’s did not come until the FINAL day of my season. This is not supposed to be a sob story, just a series of unfortunate skier events. My friends and I could have put in a lot more runs, but it seems that a higher power was at work. A final chance to get on the hill and kill it, with the NS crew no less, would be far more then incredible.
