Carrying a knife advice plz

ok, a little background, in the sumer my friends and i go night riding around Boston and last summer i got into some sketchy stuff (like crack heads asking us for shit and a friend of a friend got jumped) and i just got a little uncomfortable with the whole thing and want something that i can protect myself with. In Boston the legal blade limit is 2.5 inches, witch is not very intimidating or whatever and I guess I'm just looking for any advice on what should be done, thanks a ton and +K for help.

Also switchblades are illegal along with double edged and anything spring assisted.

are you seriously concerned about a knife law?
if you end up ever having to use it your attacker should be getting in much more trouble than you are, regardless of the size of the weapon you choose to defend yourself with.

no what i am concerned with is getting stopped by some cop giving us a hard time for being out (we are 17 and 18 so a bunch of hooligans in there eyes) and searching us (its happened before). of course i would declare the knife before hand and everything but if he is a dick that equals trouble for me.

dude, if you stab someone enough with a 2.5 inch blade it will probably do some damage, but If you're worried about getting jumped then don't worry about the law.

if its for self defense, get a taser or pepperspray; both are non lethal and can easily take down an attacker ...

any weapon you bring to a fight might end up getting used against you or your friends...
you wouldn't be the first guy who draws a knife for self defense and gets stabbed with his own knife...

Tasers are illegal in Mass. I looked into that because I wanted one for mischief purposes.

I would say look into pepper spray.

You guys are retarded. He doesn't need to be some hero who walk around with a machete in his pants, and he obviously doesn't want to get caught with something illegal. I am not sure why you guys need to act like that is the only answer that will suffice. I would suggest you just buy a little pocket knife, and keep it in your pocket. Most likely anyone you come in contact with will not want to mess with someone, even if all they have is a pocket knife. Do yourself a favor and don't do something stupid and illegal just because some guys on the internet think it's cool to disobey the law. Don't even put yourself in the situation where a cop needs to make that call.

where in boston were you? I live there and have never felt in danger. Just using common sense. Walk with people, stay in well lit areas, be aware of your surroundings, etc.

i carry a spring assisted 4.5 inch porcket knife. i've dealt with cops and i've been arrested. i've never been charged with having it or really any problems for a knife. when the cops ask i just tell em im a mechanic and its just another tool. which is true. so i don't think you'll have a problem so long as you are cool with the cops and know your rights. get a kershaw.

I would say unless you're both willing and able to use the knife you shouldn't carry one around thinking that you will. Otherwise you're just going to end up on the wrong side of it.

if the area you are in is really as bad as you make it sound then pulling a knife will probably just get you shot or killed by the person who you are pulling it on that also has a knife and isnt afraid to use it

don't listen to this advice, as someone who carries a conceiled weapon I'll tell you this, stick within the law. the last thing you want to do is lose your right to defend yourself and end up in jail with the creeps you were avoiding in the first place.

2.5 is plenty of blade if you know what your doing. just conceil it well and prectice drawing it.

Try to avoid the situation in the first place because

a) You pull out your blade and kill a crackhead
b) You pull out your blade and the crackhead pulls out two 22s from his shoes, then commences to "bust
     a cap in yo ass"

but on some real shit. don't even bother with a knife. most likely a crack head won't care if they want your cash.

that and carrying an illegal knife could be worse in court fees and tickets than the 50 bucks and i pod in your pocket...

go to like one of those outdoors expos for hunters and that kinda shit and get one there. They never ask for your age or reguard laws on types of legal knives to buy. Or just buy one legally with the stud on them for one handed opening, its almost as fast as a switch

Not gonna lie i didn't read all this thread but think before you get a knife, If you don't know what your doing "ie. have no form of training and just think you would shank a hoe" then you need to either
A. Not carry a knife
or
B. Get thorough training.

Knives are all intimidating but when some one throws a reversal and stabs the shit out of you because you have no idea what your doing, your fucked.
Knives aren't as straight forward as you think. You need to know what your doing.

Take some training on basic skills or juat be ready to straight up fight someone. I can't tell you to carry brass knuckles or something. It's just that 9 times out of 10 people hesitate to stab a perp and that's when you can potentially get fucked up.

Are throwing knives legal?
Because if they are, definitely go get some training, pick up some knives, and get a chest holster and wear it beneath a hoodie, you can seriously intimidate / own anyone who tries to fuck with you if you've had even a little training.

Pepper spray is legit stuff too, but it fucks with everyones eyes in a 20 foot area, basically.

Or just take some self defense classes, you don't even need a weapon if you know how to kick someones ass, it costs money, but you can't put a price on safety.

Good luck man, whatever your choice I hope you don't have to use it.

Get a defense baton, not to be a hater but remember even if you get attacked and you pull a knife, the other guy might have a bigger knife, and if your not actually going to stab him, he might see that as a threat, and stab you first.
