like i say, at least they are being paid. I'm sure these workers have a higher standard of living than the rest of their peon neighbors who don't have the priviledge of earning a wage (however small that wage may be) and using that wage however they damn please.

yeah, this may partly because of economies of scale but the scale of their quality of life because of this is incomparible to ours. they live in complete shit conditions and pay like this never allows for them to improve their lives. i know that was a guestimation but if a coke costs 20% of your daily wage, isn't there something wrong with that?

yeah, because with their highly "specialized" skill sets, they would surely be able to survive without money...idiot. Ask them how happy they are when there isn't a single thing they can afford, when they just sit around waiting to die of starvation because they have no money to put food in their stomachs. These people don't know how to farm and don't have the means to farm. They aren't living on my dime anyway, I don't buy jerseys, but the last thing you would want to do is stop buying xxl jerseys so you can look cool while you ski- they'd be out of jobs. once again, at least they are making money.

dude you understand that in places like china factory jobs are in high demand? people want to work them, because its better than working in feilds or going with no job at all.

and the scale is skewed. i dont know to what degree but i gurentee you 10 cents will buy you a hell of a lot more in a developing country than it does here.

at the end of the day, these people are making some money, and its enough money to eat and live basic lives ( i am jumping to this conclusion on the basis that they are not dead).

The average yearly income in El Salvador is $2850.

Using simple math, the $.72 they make as a base pay, is equal to $12.69/hr in the US.
-At $.92/hr they make with attendance bonus, they're making the equal of $16.22 hr.
-They get a christmas bonus of $57.67. The US equivalent is $1,016.47.
-In 2009, they started getting overtime pay of $1.44. In the US, that would be $25.38.

Yeah, they don't make the same amount that someone in the US makes, but they're also a poor middle-american country. Compared to the national income, they're not doing too bad.

this is what happens when you have a large unskilled labour force. the plain and simple truth is that theres no real way out of it. the factories are all they have and the compaines have used it to their advantage. they dont care, why should they? money is all that matters. unfair? welcome to corporations guys. people are always trying to get the most for the least.

your general ignorance is infuriating. why would they have jobs if they could just as easily farm for their needs, or create their own manufactured goods and clothing by themselves? If they were this self-sufficient, there would be literally no need to make money. These people obviously work because they have a pressing need or desire to obtain money, and by virtue of working for that money, they buy the things they need (food, clothing, shelter, goods, medicine, etc.) with the money they make. It's not too hard to understand. This is ultimately why everyone works. you are illogical.

I just read an article about why the US minimum wage is an unfair and destructive policy, especially for small businesses and minorities. Read some Milton Friedman, I think he did a 50 year study about the destructive nature of the minimum wage.  I'd argue minimum wage isn't fair, that businesses need to be able to set their own wages...but you bring up a good point, what exactly a fair wage?

I've been all over South Korea and its a fast fast growing country. However, everywhere we go, there are farms upon farms upon farms. Regular middle class have mini farms in thier yards. For you liberal yapping fucks calling people ignorant and what, I think its time for you guys to be MORE OPEN-MINDED. THATS RIGHT! I SAID IT! And realize that not every country in this world is comparable to ours. Thats the way most of the world lives. If we would pay them 12 bucks an hour to do that, we can solve unemployment in our own fucking country.

no, that's completely bullshit. Feudalism ended when wage labor replaced it. You can't have feudalism when people have the option to leave one "manor" to work for a better wage on another. You can't have it when people are making money and using it freely according to their own will. That is fundamentally the opposite of feudalism. By your stretch of logic, workers all over the world would be giving a huge percentage, if not all, of their wages back to a lord in exchange for the "privilege" of living on their land and having their protection. Feudalism died when archaic capitalism was born. The second people were able to pay for their own land or pay a rent, they eschewed the chains of feudalism and began exercising their free will by choosing where they wanted to work, how they wanted to work, and where they wanted to live.

too bad I'm not a Republican brah, although I am a staunch republican. Lots of Democrats are perfectly fine with the situation...after all, they make millions of dollars off the stocks of these companies, so obviously it doesn't deter them from buying into the brand. I guess being a "fucking dick" is a price I am willing to pay to look at the situation rationally without pity clouding my judgment.

i see that now, but it didn't apply all the same to his usage. Republican values are a hell of a lot different than republican values, as a small "r" republican is dedicated to just that, a republic. Most Democrats are also small "r" republicans. The values he was talking about were the typical Conservative values of the Republican party that are constantly being trashed.

Somebody said that you "embody the republican set of values", meaning that you embody the republican point of view or the republican ideology.

First.  He never actually accused you of being a member of the Republican party.  Therefore you are mistaken in your rebuttal.

Second.  If you were actually refuting his claim that you are not a "republican" rather than a "Republican", then how can you be a "staunch republican" without being a "republican". 

Third.  Even if your mistake was believing that he said you were a "Republican" rather than "republican", it wouldn't really matter if you were not a "Republican" yet still a "staunch republican" because the person you were quoting said that you embody their ideals, not that you were party of the Republican party. 

In the end, you are the one that is mistaken.  I used to be a Political Science major, and it would be a mistake for you to attempt to teach me the difference between "republican" or "Republican" in the future.  It was you that made a "conversation error", not I.

sure its all relative, but 10 cents is 10 cents, these people do not live very excessive lifestyles

to delphi, people in these countries all did farm about 100-150 years ago supporting themselves by their own means, do you know why that isn't the case now?... of course not.

And yes I understand that in order for me to be able to do things like ski, chill and have a good life in general it comes at the cost of marginalizing most of the world, however by advocating at least a little bit of corporate responsibility, doing things like supporting companies that involve themselves in fair trade practices and other such things there would be improvement. Its to bad so many people really could care less, and this will absolutely have adverse effects on the future with the world population growing insanely fast, almost exclusively in the third world, things are going to change.

Ya but don't factor out the fact that the average wage in el salvador brings a much much lower quality of life than the average wage in North America.

People can try to justify it but the bottom line is that we are exploiting all of these countries and it's made super easy because if you don't like thinking about it, you can just ignore it

Yeah, as Delphi said, you got it completely wrong with this statement. Feudalism has a very distinct set of relations and functions, none of which are present to any extent in this situation. Sure workers may be exploited to some extent, but that doesn't equate to a feudal system.
