ive used proactive since 8th grade and have never had acne. Ill get the occasional zit but thats it. I must be lucky.
I dont know if I agree with everybody saying it will make it worse or make it better but if you are on your last straw, and cant see a dermatologist I would at least give it a try.
I have tried acneFree(same thing as proactiv but cheaper) and it worked great for awhile until I started playing football. Great thing for a 2-month supply only for $20 at walgreens. Thats my first suggestion.
Second is to see a dermatologist.
CREAMS:
I have tried alot of prescription creams. All will vary for you but the best I have tried FOR ME is Acanya . Doesnt dry out my skin and works. but it took over a month to start working.(twice a day)
I have also been put on Tretinae . That gave me a rash but cleared up the zits. But i beleive it only gave me a rash due to football.
I have used alot more creams I just cant remember their names..
PILLS:
I was on DOXYCYCLINE 100mg and it took about one and a half months to start clearing up and it just wasnt getting to my liking. But keep in mind I was on it for about 8 months(twice a day).
My derma then put me on MINOCYCLINE(basically doxycyclines older brother) and I have been on it for almost a month and it is working magic. I love it.
I asked my derma about ACCUTANE and he said its going to be a last resort for me. He says it will, guaranteed, clear up my acne, but like all pills, I will become dependant on it and it will be hard for my body to take anything else such as doxcy and minocy. So I do not suggest it unless you look like freddy cougar with zits.
My 2 cents
