Tell 'em you're a motivated hard worker, who likes working directly with customers, you have a positive attitude, a good temper and are a team player. Also say you are flexible with your shifts and don't mind working overtime. I've never worked in customer service, but I guess these "tips" are pretty basic stuff to cover in an application. subway usually takes anyone unless you're a mongoloid.  i worked at the banff subway a while ago.  11pm-4am shift usually.  shit was hilarious and annoying at the same time.

When you go into to fill out the application make sure you have a nice haircut, you've showered, no/neat facial hair, nice collared shirt, khakis, a belt that matches the color of your shoes and nice shoes.  Come in with 2 copies of your resume and smile.  Be very polite

fair enough, i apologize. i took your question to mean that you were having trouble with subway's application in particular, not the general skill of getting jobs that you apply for.

i'll give you a few tips that helped me out when i was trying to get early jobs.

don't go overboard with the "fluff" on your application/interview. no one has had a lifelong dream to be a sandwich artist and the manager knows this. most people don't even want to progress in the company, they just want an afterschool/weekend gig to make some extra money and you shouldn't be afraid to tell him or her this directly. be upfront with the hours you can work, let them know aobut scheduling conflicts, but say things like "i can only work two or three days during the week in the evening due to school responsibilities, but i am available all weekend long" etc...

if there is a spot on the form or a question in the interview that asks why you want the job, say something like "working here would allow me to further develop skills that will be useful in any future workplace environment such as responsibility and dedication to duty" you can also talk about how the job will allow you to save up money to attend college (don't be like 'i need some dough to party my ass off so the bitches love me' even if you aren't planning on college just say that is why you need the money) and help you to establish a pattern of work history for your future. looking ahead in your life is a good sign of motivation, and managers look for that in new employees.

if you don't have any work references you should have several personal references ready instead. try to get members of the community that might carry some weight to help you out with this. prominent business owners, city council members, friends of the manager, religious leaders (if you come from a place that would carry weight) I had a friend who's mom was the head of the chamber of commerce, so i always put her down as a resume reference when applying for jobs near my hometown.

wear nice clothes to the interview, and even to drop off the app if you do that in person and not online. not like nice jeans and a clean t-shirt, and you don't have to wear a suit, but if you have a pair of casual khakis and a polo shirt or something wear that. and tuck your shirt in. it may not seem like much, but if you do that a manager is likely to note that you put the effort in and remember that when comparing you against the other kids applying for the job.

Ok, if it is your first job

1) you are 15 and a half or 16

2) if 1), like anyone wants some immature brat working a subway

3) if you are like 18 or over, why the fu** didnt you get a job at 15 and a half??   at 15 and a half I got a job at taco bell.  Got out of school at noon too (was varsity sports so my PE was independent pe, got credit for working out, and the job actually got me out of a second class, was worth a class for work ed.

Immediately after turning 16 I got a job at Sears as a cashier, since I had cashier experience from TBELL)  After about 6 months of that I got a job as a bus boy at a fancy restaraunt where I made tips under the table that basically doubled what I made.

Now some tips.

1) dress nice.  Nice as in something your mom would find nice, not one of your friends who thinks wear size 50 pants with your ass showing pointing out to the whole world you are gay and want someone to fudgepack you.   Subway is kind of fast food, so dress nice/casual.  docker pants, a nice collared shirt

2) Impress upon the manager that you

Have a good personality, ie are pleasant, jovial, will put the customer at ease.

you are a hard worker.  Dont just say it, think of ways in life that exemplify this

that you are a good kid.  You have interests and work hard to further yourself as a person.  Like you are the president of a after school club that does charity work.  In other words not a stoner loser, but someone who as charity work would visit the managers mother at a nursing home so they dont feel lonely.  Maybe ask your mom what traits she would want if her and your dad went off on a vacation and needed someone to watch over her kids.
