Grinding help

im pretty new to skiing, just started this season. I have a rollerblading background so i feel pretty comfortable going into the grind, but everytime  i get on my back ski releases.

-im 6 ft tall and 195 pounds have my din set to 8

am i putting to much weight on my back foot? any tips?

whoa whoa no. a din of 8 is not low enough to just release your ski.

you are doing something wrong. My guess is that because of your rollerblading background, you are dragging the back ski a little bit, and your edge is contacting the metal of the rail and catching, causing the ski to release.

also, check that the forward pressure is correct. if it isnt, you could have your din at 237025 and it would still release

Ya something is not right there. I am about 180 and last season i rode at 7 and i weighed about the same. I now would crank them up to maybe 9 or 10 but something else is wrong. Im thinking its that your back foot is catching an edge like previously stated.

I'm 5'10 and 150 and I have my DIN at 10. You should probably crank yours up a good bit. But don't max out the DIN indicator. Try to stay at least 1 DIN below the max.

cool guys thanks, i kind of feel I could up my din another notch. My ski always comes off when it needs to. I think i need to work on evening out my balance also.

DO NOT TOUCH YOUR DIN. Don't listen to these kids who don't know what they are talking about. Take your skis and boots to a legit shop and have them check them out. It is most likely your forward pressure that is off. But don't listen to idiots telling you to crank your DINs.

Your DIN is fine, don't crank it up unless you start popping out of landings you know you would have stomped. You probably aren't getting your back foot up far enough and you are smacking it off on the rail as you get on. Either that or you are edging with the inside edge of your back foot or something. Might make sense though since you came from lollerskating that you aren't compensating enough for the added weight on your feet.

yes! someone who knows what there talking about

as a first year skier he most likely doesn't ski hard enough to have his din's at what someone his height and weight, who has been skiing for 15 years, would have theres at.

fyi i'm 15 years old, 5 foot 10, 120 lbs, and have been skiing for 12 years, and my din's are at 8

donnnt fuck with your din. Thats serious shit. definitetly take it to a shop and have them check the binding out. the shit is set to your height weight and sking ability for a reason. You might beable to land all fuckin cockeyed off a booter and stay in with an 18 din but the time you catch an edge just riding the slopes your ankle and leg is toast.

Kids recommending changing the DIN are retarded. It's most likely forward pressure. Properly set and functioning bindings could be set at 2 and they wouldn't release by landing on a box/rail.

sometimes, the forward pressure loosens up on some bindings and give your boot a little wiggle room which shouldnt be there.
TAKE THEM TO A SHOP if you dont know what you are doing, and tell them what is happening and that you feel like your boot is too loose.

youre din is set to your height, BSL (boot sole length), weight, and skier ability. Listening to some kids telling you to change your din on your own will only fuck you over if you crash the wrong way.

Bad adjusted bindings can pop out in some ways because they're bad adjusted; if you then go crank up the din you might stop popping out so early in that one direction but your din will be way too high to pop out in the other directions...

i ski park and pow with a pair of marker m14 at din 7, i weigh 150lbs, and am almost 6ft tall and i'm very happy about when my skis release or don't release...
just to say, din 8 can be right for you and people claiming it's too low without any background knowledge should be ignored.
Maybe it is actually too low but you don't want to gamble with something as precious as your knees!
so take it to the shop !

Definitely dont change your DIN, if anything lower it.  Have any of you kids even seen this chart before? I agree get someone to check the forward pressure. Im only a little smaller than you and 8 is the highest i would run mine.

true my friend always popped out on rail and ysterday when we were skiing his binding actually came out of his ski so he couldnt ski rest of the night, so yea bad bindings can really mess it up

I feel like an idiot, because I should have realized this.

But yeah, skis to shop, get forward pressure adjusted. Don't fuck with the din in this case.
