Route: Dubh Choire
Date: Saturday 26th December 2009)
Skiers: Young Jah
Time: 4 Hours
Aspect: Various
My original plan, was to skin into the allt coire fionn, then up the south west facing slope of sron na gaoithe, then skin along the ridge to grabh choire and descend back down the allt a ghrabh choire to the A93 and back to the GSSC base area. Going via sron na gaoithe is a lot longer and has more low angled terrain than skinning from the top car park, what has longish steep sections.
After making the choice of grabh choire or dubh choire. I decided to try my luck at skiing dubh choire for the first time and defiantly the last time.
From GSSC
i followed my normal ascent to the base of butchers T-Bar, then skinned
above the smoking hut and headed north east to point 903. From point
903, traversed north to point 836 and skinned up a mellow south facing
slope to point 950 and descended down in to dubh choire and back to the sean spittal bridge on the A93.
From the exit of dubh choire to sean spittal bridge, there wasn't any way to cross the river with out getting wet. So i had to skin across a shallow baseless snowpack until i could find away across.
By
the time i reached the bridge, i was pretty much done and it didn't
help that i had another had 3 miles of skinning to get back to GSSC.
The End..........................
