Forgive me for misguiding you. We frequently get colder temps and crazy wind chills (have you skied in a -67F wind chill?) We occasionally get as high as 110F in spots. And it's a dry heat so it's actually bearable. Excellent thunderstorms too. It's one of those things where you have to be here for a year to understand. Last December we got 72" of snow in town in a span of two weeks. This December the ground is bare and dry. Sometimes we get snow on Memorial Day, sometimes it's 90 and sunny. Our weather is (on average) consistent when we need it to be (winters cool and usually wet, summers dry and warm) and variable all other times--but not rain all the time like Seattle. We really have an amazing climate here in E. Wash.

BC (AKA blowin chronic) ---> sickest oceans, mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, hiking trails and pretty much everything else. Take a trip to Vancouver Island and you'll be finding excuse to stay here for your entire life (I fell for this)

Colorado, Cali, OR and Washington are all amazing as well but I'm a Canuck through and through.

Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Colorado

Mass and NH because we have history here.  New England as a whole is pretty dope.  So much character and history here.  Plus NH has some sick skiing, and Mass is within a few hours of the best skiing on the East Coast.  We also have ocean here.  Cape Cod is sick.  Boston is my favorite city on the East Coast.  New England has everything. 

Colorado, because of all the awesome outdoor activities.  Denver is a sick city too.

I love Quebec. We got the best poutine, the best maple syrup, some decent mountains and enough snow. Its a good time for sure.

Not trying to be a dick, but spokane fucking blows. mt. spokane and 49 degrees north are god awful resorts. automatically discount those as they are not worth spending a dollar to ski. second spokane is one of the most run down, dirty cities ive ever been in. I just got done living there for 2 years, and hate the place. it is so ghetto, the people in spoketown suck. in a month at gonzaga i knew 2 kids that got held up at gun point walking home from parties, 4 people whos cars got stolen, and countless other acts of vandalism have occurred. as far as the park and rec system is concerned, im an avid fly fisher and the water on the spokane river is depressing to say the least. the fishing would be unbelivable but the water quality is so awful its sad. you should see how mutated some of the fish are that ive pulled out of that river. basically anything within two hours of spokane (bc, sandpoint, wenatchee, cda) are dope but eastern washington is a shit fucking hole.

1. You're expecting too much. I never said it's the end-all/be-all of cities or towns. I'm mainly speaking for the entire inland Northwest region. There are several great things about Spokane, dozens of good things, but some bad ones. As with all cities or towns. And within reason, some people don't like Spokane. Perhaps being born here has something to do with the fact that I like it--whatever.

2. Why the hell would you try to flyfish in the Spokane River? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You're supposed to go around the area, not right near it. The way the Parks system is setup is so that it takes advantage of everything the region as a whole has to offer. Our Parks Department sets up events as far west as the eastern slope of the Cascades, as far north as the Canadian border, as far east as Montana and as far south as the Washington/Oregon border. The sheer diversity of the natural environment that we are given the opportunity to take advantage of is amazing.

3. I never said anything about 49 or Mt. Spokane. Schweitzer's been my home mountain for nearly my entire life. 49 isn't great, but it's something at least. And Mt. Spokane is only good for midweek night skiing. My main thing is the sheer multitude of resorts within a four hour drive of Spokane. There's the Cascade resorts, Red, Whitewater, etc., the INSA resorts, Whitefish, etc. The diversity of the skiing within a four hour drive of Spokane is amazing.

4. You must be hanging with the wrong people. Because Spokane isn't a ghetto. Not even close. I mean, really, not even close. Not even Hillyard.

I'm completely smitten with BC right now. It doesn't stop snowing, you have massive peaks everywhere extending beyond the horizon in every direction, the people are so friendly, and the dank is dank, and being Canadian actually gives you a noticable pick-up advantage at the bars which are usually choked full of aussies, kiwis and other ex-pats.

Go in early june when tioga pass road is more 'open' per-se. There's some pretty fucking insane terrain to bootpack and hike. not bad at all.

That said, the eastern 2/3rds of the state are kinda crappy... and really just an extension of the Dakotas.. ha.

Too expensive to live there if you ask me.....My Fav is Colorado, beautiful scenery, tons of snow, huge selections of mountains, and I just love the atmosphere there....Just feels like home when ive been there

i cant find any weed in SLC right now. therefore SLC sucks until i get some. after you come from a day of skiing, you look in to the city and i think man am i in fucking china or some shit? i bet ya dont even need uv protection in SLC with the massive cloud of smog that hangs over it.

the place has maddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd smog. ive never seen so much. coming from the midwest and all.

i would think chicago would have smog, but it doesn't. SLC....being in valley or whatever i guess kinda traps the smog or something here.


i dunno. maybe someone from SLC can elaborate on why the smog just sticks around. i cant see the mountains that well all the time because of the amount of smog.

I really love north carolina. we have 4 solid 3 month long seasons, never gets too hot, and average temps in the winters are just cold enough to have lots of snow (100+ base in january), but it usually gets to around 40 degrees in the daytime.

the mountains are small, but our park is pretty good. there are 3 big lakes within 45 minutes of my house, and we own 1000+ acres of land 30 minutes away. beach is within 4 hours.

the only problem is the high population of rednecks in the surrounding small towns, but it isn't really a big deal.

Smog isn't just because there's polluting going on. I live in SLC and yeah it gets bad some days but it is because of inversions. Chicago doesn't get the inversions SLC does because it has a big ass lake and hence "the windy city" doesn't really allow air to sit too long.

It's just air temperature differences and air settling in the valley.

ya it erupts like every 10,000 years or so but i think it's been that long. i don't know too much about it except it will bury everything 10' in mud all the way to the puget sound. but i guess ya never know. I have a world class view of it if it happens on a clear day.

Washington: perhaps the diversity here is about as awesome as it gets. Big mountains (8000' doesn't sound big compared to a Colorado 14er, but when it has just as much vertical relief...), lots of snow (when there is snow).
Excellent and neutral climate. Sure, there is rain and some windy storms, but it's either gray, rainy, or fuckin sunny (well, from may to october). No hot-as-fuck-with-humidity days. Generally not very hot in the summer, not very cold in the winter, but there are places where you can find that if you so desire. Super wet in places, super dry in others. Tons of water, both fresh and salty, with pretty good access anywhere in the state. Excellent climbing. Not too big, so you can travel relatively easily from one area to another. Seattle is pretty slick, save a few political and social flaws. Only problem is that californians are takin over after fuckin up california.

Runners up:
Alaska. Probably my favorite state in essence, because it's huge as fuck, wild (for the most part), insane mountains, glaciers, weather, etc. Varies so much from SE to the chugach to the tundra blah blah. buuuuut, it's huge as fuck. Mosquitos are a mutha fucka in some places

Oregon. Kind of like Washington, but it just isn't quite as cool. The mountains are tamer and less abundant, it's drier, access to water is not as plentiful and pretty much limited to the coast and columbia.

British Columbia. Amazing. I've been fortunate to have been in many areas of BC. Easily the best province. Since I'm a dirty yankee, it will have to take 2nd over washington.
