some one has told me you can
with the firmware update it says up to 8
but some one said they used a 32
so idk

They probably say that 2gb is the max because you can fit the maximum amount of footage the camera can take at a time on it. The HD requires more gigs because it takes up more space. I got a 16gb, and I think you would be fine with a larger memory card, the extra space may just be unnecessary but idk.

this is the case
its because 2gb of footage is the max amount that the go pro wide can film continuously
with the firmware update you can do 4 and it says you can use an 8gb memory card
