This happened at the mountain i grew up skiing at a long while back.
they tied a bunch of their clothes together and the guy lowered himself down, skied down to the bar and told the liftie to turn the chairlift back on so his girlfriend could get off.
this mountain also closes mon-thurs during slow times.
