Replying to American citizen to get american sponsors?

So ya last weekend I went up to Stowe and when I got to the border they checked my car. I wasnt stressed at all because I knew nothing wrong was left in it. But they kept me there for 2 hours. In fact I they found letters in my car , letters that I was supposed to send to different mountains in order to maybe get some sponsorship from them for my website www.girlsonskis.com that will be out soon. In those letters I was asking for discount tickets,lodging etc and in exchange I was going to promote their mountain to the maximum on our website and organise some small rails jam in order to introduce girls to freestyle skiing. Well they simply told me that that was illegal. For a Canadian citizen, in order to ask for sponsorship in the United States you have to have a permit because its like if I was working in that certain mountain. In that case a P green card was the permit required by the American law. Something that will probably take me 2-3 years to get If im lucky. That is completely ridiculous!!
