All you juniors out there, scores were mailed out today. How did you do?

Crit. Reading 48/80
Writing Skills 51/80
Matematics 79/80

i was proud of my english scores considering i feel asleep on those sections and that i suck ass at english.

all i gotta say is i fucking sucked, becuase i didnt know that you get 0 points off for not answering a question, so for every question i didnt finish i guessed on, and that fucked me over.

other than that i did ok and did better than like 60% of everyone else

Not sure about my individual categories, but I got a 204 total and was national merit commended. I was in the high 90 percentiles for reading and math, then either high 80 percents or low 90s for writing.

when I took it four years ago my score got me a finalist position for the national merit scholarship, so it was top 1%? I didn't miss a single question.

I had

77/80 - English

66/80 - Math

72 - Crit. Reading/Writing

98th Percentile overall.

And then I found a guitar and basically quit school, scraped by on my SAT's with a

710 in English, 550 in Math and a 660 in Crit. Read/Writing and a 760 on my Chemistry SAT II.

Don't believe what they tell you. SAT is complete bullshit for anything but the hard sciences. IF you have talent in any other field, you're better off pursuing your passions at the local library.

wow.. psat was a longgg time ago now. i remember doing like decent on it but not that good and then i got an 1100 on my sat.. back when it was out of 1600 or whatever.. but yo the ACT is where its at haha.. i didnt even need it to get into college but took it anyway and i did soo much better on that.. my score was like high enough to go to a bunch of ivy league schools. which was weird caus my sat score was average

Critical Reading - 50/80 (Scored higher than 60% of Juniors)
Mathematics - 58/80 (Scored higher than 78% of Juniors)
Writing Skills - 58/80 (Scored higher than 86% of Juniors)

Selection Index - 166
Percentile - 78

Mind you that I've never taken any kind of class or prep course, had no idea what I was doing, and was unaware that wrong answers cost you points and omitted answers cost you nothing.

I'm probably gonna take an SAT course though or maybe get a tutor.

What do you need to qualify for National Merit? My scores were:
75-Math
63-Critical Reading
68-Writing whatever
And that put me at the 98th percentile nationally. Just wondering if i qualify or not.

I'm pretty sure you need to be in the 99th percentile to qualify; I believe that's a 220 or and up, you got a 208 (I think my math is right on that, I'm super tired)

with a 206 you'll prbly be National Merit commended, not a semi or a finalist though. I had a 204 and was commended. The score required to be commended changes every year depending on how well the rest of the country does on the test. One kid I know who's a finalist has decent grades, but can now get full rides at a ton of places cause of it.

ALL THE KIDS WHO HAVENT TAKEN IT YET ACTUALLY TRY. IT CAN SAVE YOU A TON OF MONEY FOR COLLEGE.

We've got a lot of smart kids on NS based on the previous posted scores, either that or a lot of people are lying, I like to think its the first possibility though.

national merit semifinalist status varies from state to state. in mississippi it's like 209, and in massachusetts it's like 224 or something really high.

i live in washington and got 221 last year so i'm a semifinalist and should be finalist since i turned my packet in...

depending on where you go, the psat can actually mean a lot.
if i get into usc, i automatically get a half tuition scholarship all four years, and i'm getting money from boeing (where my dad works) too. it's worth it to study a little bit and do your best. i know a lot of people who could have done really well, but they didn't really know how much psat scores could potentially help them.
