im really against 'isms' in general, but humanism stands out to me. it seems like a pretty good philosophy for those of us who aren't ready to follow a god or whathaveyou. www.americanhumanist.org

i think a few people on this site would probably want to check this out.

Um...have they redefined humanism? Or what? It used to be the rejection of spirituality and religion in favour of human concerns, validation through reason. Why do they suddenly need a club?

Not for me to be honest, sounds a little limited, i love the fact that I believe there is stuff out there I don't understand and is beyond my capabilities of believing.

Because we ski...a society for humanists is like a club for people who DON'T do something (namely, believe in...um...pretty much anything.)

basically humanists take a rational approach to lifes mysteries. since creationism is the most logical answer to how humans were...ummm...created, humanists adopted that theory. in a nutshell, humanism is striving to improve our society by a) not being an asshole and b) learning about stuff so you aren't a stupid cunt.

You can, a) not be an asshole and b) learn about stuff so you are not a stupid cunt by following almost any religion. Of course, depending on how you wish to interpret the religion you may feel differently about it, but theres no actual quotation from any of the core religions (meaning Judaisim, Christianity and Islam) that speaks out against knowledge. Hell, the Arab's invented Algebra while they were almost 100% Islam. I'm going on about something I probably shouldn't Oh well.

religion is is only a crutch for people's weaknesses, and to answer questions that nobody actually has the answer for. so whatever the religion you decide to study, nobody should tell you that you are wrong or right. so humanism is basically just a religion for people who don't want a religion, yet still want anwswers to life's questions.
