I've never liked Jacob because of his ugly style, but even more because of those little rants that he always comes up with. He's such a whiner it's incredible. Every year always coming out of nowhere with a stupid thing to say like that. Looks like he just wants our attention and he's getting it.

There's a fine line between whining and speaking your mind, and Jacob has always been one to speak his mind, so he runs the risk of people not agreeing with him. Give him a little credit for having a spine and voicing his opinions at least, regardless of whether you agree with them. Honestly, some of the guys they "didn't want" should be able to do any big air they want to.

Yeah he "spoke his mind about Brogan" and then basically ended up doing damage control and talking about how he actually respects Brogan. Sometimes people need to know when to keep their mouth shut.

I think that it sucks that he didn't get an invite because he's one of the top big air guys for sure. I'd invite him before a few that are doing the comp.

I can understand why he is frustrated.  He is one of the top big air riders, and lots of other guys who ride with similar style were invited.  Perhaps he should just say "bummer, I'll find some others to go to", but I think he thought that he was not only qualified as a skier, but was a friend of the organizers.  I would be frustrated too.  That being said, his post was a bit high-school-drama-esque.  You could take it either way.

Sounds like a perspective issue. It's one contest, in a long string of contests that he will probably likely do over the course of his career. Who knows, maybe he'll wake up a few days later and see it in a different light.

He's what, 21 years old? I look back at the kind of stuff I did when I was 21 and some of it was stupid, in hindsight.

yeah sounds really biased. Jacob has obviously got good enough tricks to compete at the event, but atleast it opens up a spot for someone else who hasnt had the chance to compete in as many city air as Jacob. I think this kind of stuff is just part of the sport, and Jacob should just hold his head high and kill it in the next city air, rather than give a rant like that (although that does really suck for him)

Isn't the point of a big air contest to get the best big air riders, throw them into a comp to see who throws down the hardest? Not necessarily the best unknown riders, the best riders in general. Jacob kills is like many of the others on the list, and if he's better than a couple of those guys (which he is from what I've seen of them, I'm not saying that he is) then he should've been invited/

1) Sucks his friend didn't invite him

2) He's a fuckin pro skier and skis all year round AND he gets payed for it.

Point 2 disqualifies him from being allowed to whine about anything on Earth.

yeah definitely, and if i were putting on a big air like that jacob would more than likely get an invite. I'm just trying point out the bright side of the ordeal, and who knows, maybe one of those kids thats never competed in a city air has a new trick/grab/style to bring to the game

Any competition that's not an open event is ALWAYS going to be turning people down left and right. Of course you always want to be able to invite all the best riders and especially the guys who are your friends. But space is always limited, and somewhere a line has to be drawn. Sending out emails or making phone calls to tell people they aren't on the invite list is one of the single hardest parts of running a ski event, and I'll bet these guys would have been happy to have Jacob there if their roster wasn't already full.

When there's limited space and an abundance of interested riders, someone is always going to get turned down and people are always going to complain, "How come this guy got invited and this guy didn't?" Fact of the matter is, the organizers are working as hard as they can to please everyone, and when it comes down to it, you just can't make everyone happy!

it sounded to me like he is more upset about the fact that he seemed pretty tight with the event creator and then didnt get an invite. its like having your boy throw you under the bus. not just the fact that he doesnt get to go. maybe im wrong.

I think he's just a bit too full of himself. There are plenty of pros dripping with way more style than him (pk, casabon, leigh, etc.) who didn't get invited either, so Jokeob can calm down.

It seems like there are two different issues here: 1) does he have the right to be pissed off?; 2) should he vent in a blog post? I'm surprised so many people take issue with the first part. Why wouldn't he be pissed?! Say what you want about his style--the dude has been on top of the big air circuit for years. He's got a right to be there. This IS personal, because he's being excluded . . .and not just by some random dude, but someone who's a past friend. Sure, maybe it's poor form to mention it on his blog, but then again, that's what blogs are for.

But why the hell would you turn down Sammy, PK, Colby, Gus, Leigh and Jacob for the likes of... well pretty much 1/2 of the list of people they did invite? A lot of those guys are good, but not on a level with the 6 I just mentioned, and a bunch of them I've never even heard of.

I think he was stupid to post the rant on his blog, what he has a point, the organizers invited a bunch of horrible Spanish no-names who had zero chance of making it into the finals. I guess on one hand they want to rep their local scene, but they should probably have invited all the big names.

I totally agree with Jacob on this one, the way they selected riders was rather weird. A few of my riders they welcomed with open arms, others somehow not at all. Plus receiving a non invite email was rather awkward. Dont get me wrong, I am stoked for them to have a sick comp in Barcelona, what disturbed me the most was that the dates for the Glacier 3000/Monsterpark invit. were out since awhile and we randomly heard about that event end of September so we had to change dates and everything.

and btw, did u realize that sammy was in the first list (non-invites) and then he was in the riders list anyway? i think salomon put some pressure on the organizers...

Just because you are border line getting as fat as eheath doesn't mean you can use goomba. Please use words that you dont hear others say first, in every way did you just make yourself look like the real goomba by using goomba to me. A goomba label could be given to someone who, lets say, wants to be a polar bear instead of a wolf... or to someone who looks like an indian but still has to pay for ski passes to ride the land we took from you, thats goomba.
