4FRNT Warehouse!

They hosted a ONELOVE (UofU ski/snowboard club) event at their warehouse and hooked it up. Pizza, Amp, Skatecomp.... so fun! Plus got to check out all of this year's ski inventory, and learn a little bit about the production process. They got a quality product, definitely gonna have to figure out a way to buy myself a pair of those shredsticks!

Salt Lake City. I think they only recently moved into the warehouse, but the place is looking good! mini is like 20-30 ft. wide w/ 4 extensions!

yeah thats definitely a great prevention step, but shit you slide enough rails its still gonna happen.. usually happens to the skis that are already at the urban/rock skis status

Also, if I expected that from sliding rails, I probably wouldnt slide rails.  I have never seen any other ski do this.

the only other skis I have ever seen similar edges used for were race skis some 30 years old.....yeah...

Fuck 4frnt (Im sorry but i hate their product)

I went through 3 different sets of Tnks within half a season and none of them lasted more then 3 days of riding with one of them only lasting half a run on my first day of using them. Tell me how you have blow out an edge so that you can fit your glove through it on a blue groomer run...

Then they had the nerve to tell me that it was rail damage and that they wouldn't warranty them, I <3 line, Volkl, Dynastar and K2 and have never had and issue with them. I don't know anyone that has said anything different about 4frnt...

Really?  How can you expect an edge not to blow out after enough rail sliding?  Every single pair of skis I have ever owned has blow edges after a week of riding.

not only does 4frnt have a poor quality ski (i had 2006 stl : edge blew out from tail up -- not rail damage, camber in 1 ski was gone in less than a season.) They also screwed over retailers (ie. jibij) with factory direct promos.

imo, there are heaps of ski manufactures that deserve your support more than 4frnt does

even if you find a good price, it's a tough choice.

at first I was stoked to get mine at a decent discount, but the stoke wore off quicker than the edges... really.

Ugh....this again.  Okay, what happened to that ski is fucking bullshit, and it's even worse that it wasn't taken care of by the company.  However, if any of you have ever built a piece of furniture or welded two pieces of metal together you know that SURFACE AREA is the greatest proponent to the strength of the bond.  Those skis he posted have keyed edges in the tips and tails so they don't bind when bent around the tip, but they are laminated with more surface area everywhere else.

Again, for all those who don't enjoy reading, it's bullshit, but don't act like you know what your talking about if you have 0 experience or knowledge.  (On that note if you do have some knowledge that counters my stance I have been looking for something conclusive that goes against my opinion, let me know what you find.)

the photograph shown above is a bit crazy... never seen that happen, but lets nto turn this into a 'lets hate on 4frnt because i had a bad situation with quality one time!" thread... i've owned a pair or two in the past and never had a problem.

im sorry you must be a "pro" then. and im really sorry you have never owned a quality ski if you are blowing edges after a week. 4frnt makes shitty skis. period. If you dont want to blow edges, buy a ski that keys them. when you key your edges the most that will happen is that they will crack (those hairline fractures) or the key will start to protrude through the base. You will never see a keyed edge do what happened in that picture, its physically impossible due to the way its manufactured.

3 sets of skis in 7 or so days of riding... If i didn't have another set to ride in the meantime i would have gone ape. This is not "a bad situation with quality one time" this is a reoccurring event that is not just one person riding but has been happening to many people repetitively.. Unfortunately we arn't all sponsored or have enough money to treat skis like toys out of a 25cent gum-ball machine.

Much like the Line delam issue was common knowledge a few years ago.  That ski he posted is from 3 seasons ago.  And I would definitely call that an outlier.

line's delam issues were pretty obvious, seeing as they had about a 100% return rate on all first gen invaders... after about 10 days of skiing.

thats what happens when you make cap construction skis and dont use the right epoxies for how much the ski flexes...

WOW.  You are dumb.  I'm not saying that 4frnt uses good edges because I do not believe that they do.  But I'm saying if you actually ski and hit rails regularly  edges fall out in the exact same way whether they are flanged or not.  It just may take longer with flanged edges.  The skis I have owned in which edges have completely ripped out include:  multiple pairs of armada ar5/6's, salomon thruster and 1080, scott p3, libtech nas, k2 fujatives, and yes, 4frnt stl's.  I do think 4frnt makes one of the worst skis on the market that loses edge, sidewall, and camber in half a season, yet I continue to buy them because they are cheap and I don't expect a pair of skis to last that long.  I will never pay retail for them, but you can't complain about $145 TNK's from the warehouse which is what this thread is about.

Yeah REI had some STLs for 89$, and they were in my cart and I had my credit card out, but did a quick search on NS and found that pic and numerous bad things

You are missing the point of the "warehouse" or outlet store.  "The outlet has skis, boots, bindings, and poles from previous seasons, as well as factory seconds that never made it to the shops due to minor cosmetic defects—they all ski perfectly, but might feature two left ski graphics or a color variation."

maybe that's part of the warehouse, but 4frnt has made a significant amount of sales going to universities and promoting a buy direct packages that equate wholesale or close to... and for these promos it is not last season product, it's current merchandise

The invaders were the first year of production in China and they had some problems with the tooling that has since been dealt with. SFBs used to have a similar delam issue their first year in the tip and tail. But they got it sorted really quick.

WOW sir, you are dumb.  clearly you have never manufacturered skis nor spent enough time on them to understand what breaks a ski.  edges do not fall out the same way when keyed vs not keyed. 

Tell me wise one... how is it that I can ski for 8 months straight, only rails, and not blow out nor crack an edge????

I love how any thread that is posted trying to state a positive thing on this site always gets turned into straight hate no matter what.  Back to the original post yes 4FRNT has an awesome warehouse and it's a super fun place to hang out and skate.  Props to 4FRNT.

i really want to like 4frnt as a company, but it's very tough to do. i bought msp's the first year 4frnt was out. i liked how they skied at the time when i demo'd them. took them out to whistler that spring, dropped a little 10 foo cliff and one of the skis just snapped in half. they warrantied that one thankfully, but only replaced the broken ski, not the pair, so i had one ski that was used for a season, and one that was brand new... first day of the following season, all that's open at my home ski area is a straight, flat groomer. probably about the 3rd run of the day, i'm carving down the trail, and the new ski that had been warrantied just folds in half underneath me, exact same spot on the ski that the first one snapped. the warranty was then refused, because they claimed there was no way that happened just skiing a groomer. i've ridden a lot of skis throughout the years, and yeah, i had invaders and they delammed like crazy, but line took care of it. i had salomon 1080s the first year they went with the spaceframe construction, which also delammed like crazy, but salomon had me on a brand new setup less than a week after i sent them back. i've never had a ski just completely self destruct quite like my 4frnts did.

Haha, the irony. Actually kyle and I make skis in our garage. We use flanged edges because they are a more sensible idea, but of course it is still possible for them to blow out.  The epoxy that holds the flanges is still vulnerable to cracks that grow over time and it [b]will[/b] eventually fail with enough use, no matter what. Ski those rail skis of yours for a few years and you will find out. That said, flanged edges will  probably not rip out over as long of lengths as straight ones. Also, the trade off with flanged edges is that the places where there are gaps for the epoxy to grab them are weaker because they have less material and so you are more likely to get initial cracks in the edge.

beyond the bunny hill??? For one, if you slide kinks there is no way this is possible. I have never ever seen someone slide rails for "8 months straight" without a cracked edge at the very least. If that is something that you did, then you need to step your game up, and get out of the mini park. And where is it that you can ski for 8 months straight???
