So who's been to Taos?

I've heard its pretty chill but how is the skiing...I realize there's obviously not much of a nightlife but that aside would it be worth spending a few days there? A couple of friends and I are thinking of taking a roadtrip for part of winter break.

Definitely worth going. Their hike-to terrain is really gnarly.

Yeah it's sick I was there Christmas 2008 and they opened the ridge the day I got there so EPIC, more than 20 inches off the ridge. But i heard it sucks when theres no snow

I live in Santa Fe, bout an hour away and have skied there numerous times.

For one: some of the steepest skiing ive skied; especially the ridges. There all super fun, and when theres pow its orgasmic. There park is sick. The havea small line, and a big one with a lot of rails and stuff.

Overall, REALLY sick sking

i live in taos. ill say one thing, the park sucks. dont come if you want park. but the skiing is so good. the ridge is basiccly just a short hike to lots of steep shutes  and a few nice open bowls. the night life isnt great but its worth it if theres snow and the ridge or some of the shutes are open

As everyone has already said, the hike-to terrain is amazing.  Steep, rocky, and technical.

Yeah taos is awesome.  You should go and on the way stop at Silverton and shred the gnar there too.

So much fun, I was there a few years ago before Ernie Blake's greedy family opened it up to snowboarders. I'm sure it sucks now.

From what I could tell, the TSV was losing business big time because they were not allowing snowboarding. Families with a mix of skiers / snowboarders were simply going elsewhere like Red River, Angel Fire, Wolf Creek, etc. because of this.

I spent a couple days snowboarding at Taos, actually. While I think there are people still grumbling about it, business is back up, and I don't sense too many hard feelings.

The terrain is excellent, the chairs are slow (no express chairs?), and the snow is great. The ridge was not fully open when I went, though, so I don't have an idea of what that's like.

No hate towards you, but I hate it when mediocre boarders heel slip technical steeps.  I've noticed a ton of my favorite technical lines in Vail are now always scraped off.  I know there are some shitty skiers that drop in and side slip, but I think that the majority is snowboarders who aren't good enough to be in these areas and can only get down by slipping.  I guess it's not worth whining about, because there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Taos has some sick lines.  One is really steep and funnels into a choke that's basically about a ski length wide.  You have to make a specific Taos turn to get through it.  It's basically like a hop turn where you can only hop to about 45 degrees from the fall line.  You start picking up speed fast.  If you pick up too much speed and can't shut it down quick, it truly is game over.  My concern is that chute won't be as good anymore because no talent snowboarders will scrape all the snow off. 

Taos is worth the trip. End rant/

compared to the rest of New Mexico toas has a so so park which isnt saying much. thier steeps are sick as said, and they have a lot of moguls if your into that. overall a really sick place to be, make sure to stop by.
