Salomon Vs. Fulltilt

Alright guys i ski 100% park and i my foots done growing so i finally get to buy a pair of boots instead of leasing... I ski about 60% rails and 40% jumps but im not going huge on the jumps but anyways, i am trying to decide between this years Salomon SPK and this years Fulltilt Booter or Hotdogger... now the thing is my foot is slightly wider than average and i know that Fulltilts run somewhat narrow and Salomons run slightly wide but i work at a ski shop so i could easily get them custom formed and all that fancy stuff but will it really be to narrow still?... Id also like to know the Pros, Cons, Differences, Similarities, What you liked, what you hated, ect.... I want to know EVERYTHING about these boots cause i want to make sure my decision is the right one

wow, and you say you work at a shop. haha. how about you put both on for 15 minutes one on each foot then you tell me; they both will preform well you just need a boot that fits correctly.

ya but the thing is we dont carry full tilt so i have absolutely no hands on (or in this case feet on haha) experience with these boots and also i want to know the differences between there performance and features and theres only so much old geezers that dont know what a shaped ski is can tell u about a freestyle boot

1. Why are you skiing  100% park. Try some actual skiing once in a while.
2. Go to a boot fitter.

Salomon has lots of boots ranging from wide to narrow so thats a pretty broad comparison. Don't go in looking for a specific brand or boot. Let the boot fitter do their job and find something that fits your foot. You'll be happier once your skiing in it this way. Plus boot fitters can do all sort of shell mods to work for you perfectly.

haha, not to mention he just compared some of the skinniest boots on the market with the widest boots on the market.

I recommend Sollys(NOT SPK).  Saying a boot is a park boot is fucking retarded.  I say get Falcons/Impacts(98mm/100mm) or the 102mm version of those.  There are also CS versions(Custom shell) that are moldable in the forefoot(or whatever you call it).  All are light(I think, Falcons are for sure light) and have a real smooth flex, with a ton of models in each shell shape with different flexes from soft to stiff(which you can also soften up by taking out rivets).  O think that they are better than FTs and Dalbellos, but that could be opinion(and also make sure to try on them first..).

Sorry didn't realise that you were comparing SPK to full tilts. they are TOTALLY different fits. Theres no way both will work for you. So like i said, boot fitter.

thanks a lot for the help guys... when i say park boot i mean a boot that is flexy and has the features of a park boot like for example a rubber toe insersion obviously is a park feature... are they similar in performance though cause i want just as much as comfort, a good performing boot for a freestyle skier

find a shop thats got both, put both on for 15 minutes haha really the only way to know its all about fit not gimmicky features but the spks do have bottle openers that i use on occasion if that helps wooo you.

hahaha we do carry the spk and thats what they told me about the buckle prety funny... but like isnt there a difference between the 3 piece flex system and the standard 2 piece, i mean come on thats a pretty big change for a boot company to go back to a 3 piece flex system

honestly it doesn't matter much.  There are great and terrible 4 buckle boots, and great and terrible 3 piece boots.  I prefer 4 buckle..but whatever shell fit is correct will work.  My 4 buckle Solly boots have a super smooth flex, and so do FT High Fives(which have some special flex point tongue, I find that other FT tongues aren't so smooth).  Although FT sure did do a good job of advertising 3 piece boots as a massive sales point somehow over 4 buckle boots... I think that the stupid new boot thing is 2 buckle boots(SPK).  Solly makes great 4 buckle boots, why take away two light buckles and replace all the buckles with heavy buckles?

true that but they did put in the snowboard style tonge holder that is pretty kick ass as well as the super beefy strap they put on... i think in a way those two features make up for 4 buckles, but i see where ur coming from

I dont notice like any difference man, the new ones have toe pads which was my only complaint about the spks. i also have a wider foot and they work out great. super comfy on your shins but like anyboot needs tweeking to fit your foot for 100+ days a year. i use them in all conditions mainly park but also on pow days and they're A+ so its more about what fits your foot not gimmics all high end boots will preform well you just gotta get your foot in one and be :)

Incomparable. If you can get a FT on your foot without it burning then SPK is the wrong boot for you - the high five is 2mm wider in the forefoot of the liner so that could help you a little.

does your shop carry dalbello? You could try on a krypton series boot. They are a similar 3 piece shell, and they have a 98mm last just like the FTs. This could give you an idea of whether or not you can even fit your foot in a 98mm last boot.

ya we do, we got the rampage and it was really nice, i liked it a lot... it was pretty comfortable, only a little more snug compared to the SPK Kaos and the Kreation... o that reminds me I never told u guys that i meant the SPK Kaos not the SPK itself, but they are real similar so

theyre incredibly different boots but both really good, you just need to try both

chances are, if the salomon fits well, the full tilt probably won't

O and also, is there really any difference between the Hotdoggers and the Booters cause its like a 200 dollar difference so if I do decide that Fulltilts are the way to go should I go with the Booter and save the 200 cause thats what I was leaning towards as far as im concered with Fulltilt

the booters have a really soft tongue and possibly a different liner
but again if the SPK series fits you well the Full Tilts won't, though if a Dalbello Krypton or Solly Ghost boot fits you well the FTs have a chance of being comfy

thanks for all the help guys... Today at work i went into the shop and there were a pair of last years hottdogers there and I tried them on and surprisingly they felt pretty good, very similar to the Krypton Rampage... I kinda like them better than the Kaos cause they felt like they held me in really good up top and around the bottom... So what do u guys think i should do?

FT and Kryptons have a similar fit.

Chances are if the FT wasn;t painful to wear for more than 10 mins of walking around in it, the SPK will be too wide.

You tried these on in a shop yes? They should have qualified boot fitters which will tell you how the fit is and give you infinitely more help than an online forum. It not something you can get advice on without looking at your foot and movements.

well i meant like where we adjust the skis to the bindings so they were a customers hottdoggers hahaha but it was a 335 or a 30.0 mondo point which is my size so i was in luck... do u think that if I ordered the booters online in my size that I could bring them in and get them heat molded and all that... I can only imagin that if i had my own pair it would be even better cause they would be formed to my foot... Thoughts?

damn son do you wear like a size 14 shoe? Did you get shellfitted or did you just slide the boots on? If the FTs felt good on your feet, go with those for sure, you would be swimming in the SPKs, especially after they pack out.

do u have a personal expirience with fulltilts to say they suck... and if u dont recomend fulltilts salomon or dalbelo ect. for a freestyle skier than what do u recomend, im not gonna want like a nordica sportsmachine for freestyle... and i just started workin there about 3 weeks ago and im still learnin everything so dont say im dumb for workin in a shop, do u expect me to know everything about everything in my first month, and we dont even carry fulltilt so how am i supposed to know anything about them... jesus cut me some slack

hahaha yeah i wear a 12 shoe and im only 5 8 hahaha i dont really get it, but im only 15 so im still growing, hopefully my height will match my foot someday haha, but my foot has stopped growing so thats good... Anyways i didnt shell fit it or liner fit it cause it was a customers personal boot so i really wasnt supposed to put it on or anything and i just slipped it on and by the time i got it all done up the manager came back and was like hey what are u doin with that hahaha so idk... i wish i coulda got to walk around in it, but iv tried the Krypton Rampage and that felt pretty good so im half goin off that and half goin off the hotdogger i tried today

I recommend getting yourself properly fitted. a 337bsl is probably too big, i wear a 13 shoe and am in a 28 or 27 shell depending on the boot. They should be tight, almost too tight in the shop. Esp b/c you can custom mold them because they have the ID liners.

I would say it does matter. But first off, go to a bootfitter! SPKs and Fulltilts are complete opposites, SPKs are really wide and Fulltilts are really thin.... I somehow ended up in SPKs for the start of this season, worst fit for me ever, so painful... Switched to last years Booters at the end of the year, I have a narrow foot, much better. But, fit aside:
I prefer the 3piece boots like Fulltilts, biggest thing is they are soooooo much easier to put on. It doesn't sound like a big deal, but my SPKs were even too big and it was a bitch to get my foot in. 3piece, no problem.... Also, the Fulltilts are lighter due to the fact that they have less stuff all over the boot (i.e. buckles vs. cables). Yes, they are soft, but I'm pretty so no big deal.... Plus fucking TWALL rides them!!!1!!!11

But first and foremost: for god sakes go to a bootfitter, because those two boots are polar opposites regarding width, so if one fits the other is going to be absolute hell.....

Then why are you looking at it? If you cant try it on before you buy cross it off your list. Full tilt is hyped beyond belief on here. Its mostly good marketing. Its not in a league of its own or anything. You said you carry Dalbello Kryptons, try those instead. Similar fit, 3 piece design, customizable ect ect.

Full Tilts are very narrow. I wish i couldget some, but I have a very wide foot and definitely cannot fit in them. SPKs are a solid park boot, soft flex, easy buckles.

Next year FT is coming out with a wide boot though.

People who work at shops have contact with products they dont carry.  Ive ridden tons of skis, boots, and really anything you can possibly think of at the demos and trade shows.  The whole point is to know that the competition offers. 

Its unfortunate, but good people in shops are a rarity now adays.

If FTs fit you then i would definitely get em. There great boots no matter what anyone says. The flex is perfect and there really comfortable. Ive had the booters and the hot doggers. Loved them both. If they dont fit you then i would get the Spks. They are also really good boots. Everyone on NS is going to tell you to go to a boot fitter. Which is probably the best thing to do. It just seems weird to me that somehow everybody on LINE has the perfect fit for FTs.

oh man... so much redundancy.

look, the SPK is a rad park boot. if you've got wide feet check it out. Its a foot bucket. I've ridden it for two seasons now. the liner is key to that boot, the lace up makes it skiable most of the mountain. That being said, I was looking at the Dalbello Il Moro, but I pronate so much that i would need to do a lot of work to that boot, even with the Intuition liner. I dont know  alot about the full tilts, other than that they are rather narrow, but unless you have retarded monster feet, an experienced boot fitter should be able to get them to work for you. Good luck man, and keep in mind, a park boot is a PARK boot. they suck everywhere else. But, if you only ride park any other boot is not going to be ideal, i dont care what anyone else says. they just hate cuz they cant slide rails.

get the salomons. they fit better on me than fulltilts. you just need to go to a shop and spend the minimun 1 hr trying both boots on.  hope this hepls
