ok, so i've been doing alot of research on the internet lately trying to find a new camera(sold my gl2 i've had for 4 years for 1000$). my idea price is 2000 right now so all of the really solid cameras(hmc 150, xha1, etc) are a little of of my range. I was looking at the fx7 but after researching it a lot i decided i wasn't impressed.
so here my current thoughts on the hmc 40
Pro's:
* record's in 1080 60p & 24p native (really stoked on that)
*records to flash ( no more capturing tapes and shifting through hours of footage)
*it's possible to hook up xlr (they dont come with it but you can buy an attachment)
cons:
*1/4' sensors (i would like to see how it does in 60 lux)
*lens is very small (43 mm filter diameter, giving it a narrow angle) *this is probably the reason main reason i havn't already made a purchase.
*avchd is a bitch to edit unless you have a baller computer. i would have to upgrade my processor to a bigger core2duo or a quad core (this isn't a big deal... i wouldnt mind upgrading)
So bottom line, i'm really torn here. A camera that does 1080 24p for only 2000 dollars sounds amazing but i almost feel its to amazing to be true.
Let me get some feed back. And if anyone has one of these please tell me about it. or even better up load some footage. This camera just came out last month so all of the sites i would normal go to for lux rating and picture quality havn't reviewed it yet.
Heres a link to b&H's page for the HMC40 so you can check the specs.
