see thats his point though. he was saying that alot of people do have rights that they dont use. hes just trying to keep the right to bear arms in NH a right, he speaks a point. but i do also feel that the interview was totally unnecessary

It was totally unnecessary the fact is this guy had a gun, had a right to have said gun, was no where close to the president with the gun and the police knew he had a gun. Liberals are just trying to make it look like there's wackos who are anti health care reform trying to kill the president. They're just trying to legitimize the anti health care protesters. This wasn't needed.

I couldn't watch that whole thing, simply because Chris Matthews is a fucking idiot.
While I don't like guns, I can respect that the guy was openly exercising his right to carry. I think it should be pretty apparent that the guy showing his gun isn't the one to be worried about. If you plan on using it for anything other than self-defense, you probably don't want people to know you're carrying. Maybe if this show had a more reasonable host who didn't bully around his guests into saying what he wanted, they could have made this guy out to be more unreasonable or something, but next to Chris Matthews, this guy looks entirely legit.

And notice the "Rage At Home" Icon underneath the protester. It's ironic that he was completely calm the entire time and the icon was under him instead of matthews who was screaming Goddamn at one point. Ohh the irony.

the man with the gun had very intelligent and thought out answers for every question the ass hole liberal junkie on the left threw at him, and had a solid stance on the way the country is/should be. and clearly bringing the gun accomplished what he wanted, because he went from nothing to being on msnbc or cnn or whatever left leaning network that was.

i think this is WA state law probably but here it is legal to carry a weapon without a concealed weapons permit as long as it is carried on the outside and can be seen.

i used to think that but it's not REALLY the case...i mean in some places you technically can, but it will draw the attention of every single cop you see, and you might be arrested on suspicion of a crime you had no intention of committing...i mean, you'll probably get off depending on your state's laws, but it will be a really inconvenient day for you

in most cases states they also have laws geared toward prevent public hysteria, and open carry of a firearm is this sort of thing that makes people hysterical...i live in texas, and i never see anyone but cops doing open carry, but that's not to say it doesnt go down in more rural areas

ive double and triple cross-checked that site with state DA sites to make sure it's accurate, and it is

i spend most of my time in the central/rocky mountain corridor, and whenever im driving around it's usually in new mexico, texas, colorado, and wyoming. i do not have a CHL (concealed handgun license) because i had a misdemeanor beer charge my freshman year in high school, so i still have to wait another year (you have to be 5 years removed). HOWEVER, that site has taught me that all of the states i just listed allow you possess a firearm for personal protection in your automobile WITHOUT any sort of license as long as you're legally able to purchase a firearm and are not in commission of any crime above a class C misdemeanor while it's in your car.

so, naturally, any time im driving more than 30 or 45 minutes in any direction, i usually have my .357, i dont want to break down on the road and get ambushed by some "helpful" stranger while i wait for AAA, that just isn't how i want to go out...

oh, but remember, in most cases the SECOND you have one or two drinks it becomes illegal to have a gun in your car, so if youre going to do what i do, ALWAYS take the thing out before you go to the bars...and if you're not legal drinking age, most states i can think of say you can't own a pistol, so dont have one in your car if youre below 21 either...

it depends where you live, think about it. this happened in Pennsylvania during the election period where a man brought a gun to an Obama rally; however, he did not go inside. He wore a 9mm on a holster and carried a Bible to the rally to protest Obama's remark that Americans who felt left out of the system clung to guns and religion. He also had flyers to distribute about gun rights. This is an example of someone who carries a gun everyday, no matter what the situation is and a lot of people I know also do this. It's more common in rural areas I'm sure but, gun rights are a serious issue. We cannot be stripped of that liberty just because people don't like guns and think all gun owners are killers. Ugghh people make me crazy.

Chris Matthews has always been a douche, but this exchange takes the cake. The whole conversation about why the man carried a gun (I liked his comment about having an unloaded gun and I'm no NRA freak) to a townhall meeting ends with that it is his right to do so. There's no discussion here. Matthews thought he was probably dealing with some typical American idiot who wouldn't be able to refute any of his attacks, and to the contrary, it was the other way around.

I just don't understand why this kind of shit comes to the forefront of discussion when things that are far more important, such as specifics and all this shit, get shoved away because it doesn't seem to help the mandate of those advocates of this particular reform.

He talked to the guy for like ten minutes, trying to make him look bad. You try to smear one, you can try to smear all by seizing that one. That is why there have been tons of allegations of racism, lobbyist-organized opposition, nazism, etc etc, anything to taint the opposition. This is just another case of that.

The fact that this story made it to TV is ridiculous and awesome at the same time.  Ridiculous for the fact that it's normal and regular old normal things don't need to clog up the news.  And the awesome part is that this guy handled all the interviews perfectly.  His interview on MSNBC made Chris Matthews look like  raging biased lunatic.  He tried getting that guy to say he was a "birther"  because he carried a gun.

Half of me is not surprised that it made it on to tv because most Americans have been persuaded to think that guns in general are illegal.  When you drive down the highway with a giant gun on a billboard pointing at you and saying "report illegal guns"  is just absurd.  Do you really think a criminal is going to be like "hey, I got this illegal gun over here check it out!!!".  No.  They have radio adds playing here around philly saying that say if you buy a gun for a criminal that you are partially liable for the crime they commit??  It's all just scare tactics aimed are creating a disarmed, and obediant society.

The only reason it was an unnecessary scene was because MSNBC made it one. Its really no big deal that the guy had a gun, he had every right to have it and the cops and secret service knew he had it. If someone is going to assassinate the president I highly doubt that they would do so with a firearm in plain sight while at a protest, because it wouldn't work and the guy would be shot before he got his gun out of his holster.

And who knows how many people have brought concealed weapons to any other public presidential event, you'll never know in fact because they were concealed so it's a good thing and a sign of non aggression that this guy was open carrying.

His sign said "The tree of liberty has to be watered with the blood of tyrants", and he was openly displaying a gun. That's a death threat. And it's not a very subtle one.

I talked to Chris Matthews last summer. He was very calm, intelligent, and well composed. Seemed like he'd be a cool guy to have a beer with and talk politics. I don't know why he turns into a raving madman every time he's on camera.

hahahaha i agree, i met him once too in DC when i was at a restaurant in Georgetown, he's actually a pretty cool guy, but political punditry is a cruel mistress and you have to act like a BIT of a psycho to keep up with assholes like Glen Beck

i still like MSNBC better than fox news and CNN though

I can almost guarantee you that in the past when a president was assassinated, the person shooting him was concealing their weapon which probably wasn't legal to begin with. In New Hampshire it just so happens that you can carry your gun non concealed, had that been in Massachusetts and he had a coat on nothing would have changed. I almost guarantee he wasn't the only person with a gun there, he was just the only one who wasn't concealing it.
