Both were taken with a canon point and shoot, i'm looking to upgrade to a dslr soon

1 is dark nothing really stands out, 2 is crooked nothing really stands out.  What is your focus in these pictures

now that you have covered underexposure and overexposure lets try and find a happy medium. Also like people said, whats the point of these pictures? I feel like they are not providing a good idea as to what you were trying to convey

the first is a long exposure at night, and i see what you are saying with the focus point on the second
