Macbook Air Or Macbook Pro

So my PC is totally shot. I've never owned a Mac but a family friend of mine is really into fixing computers and he said he had a few Macs "laying around".  He said he would sell me a 14" (i think) Macbook Air with an external superdrive, external hardrive and Windows so i can do the whole dual boot thing since I have a Zune instead of an Ipod and need windows all for school for about $1000.  He also said he would sell me a 15" Macbook Pro for $1300 which has 320gigs (or something rediculous like that) for about $1300.  I can probably haggle him down a but on both but i can only choose one.

I'm sick of PC problems.  Can Y'all help me with my decision here? Which should I go with?  I don't really game but I do have a A LOT of music and take a lot of notes in class on the comp/do a lot of work outside and i don't know how the battery lives compare.

Like I said, any helpinsight would be dope.  I'll hand out the standard +karma i guess.

and 320 gig hardrive isnt that ridiculous.... i have a 320 on my macbook and and after a year its almost half full.

how is the battery on the pro? i'm sure the battery on the air lasts hours

pro for sure. air doesnt have a dvd drive although the solid state hd is awesome. check out the new pros that just came out i think they are cheaper than what he is asking and you get a free ipod

naw, they're def not cheaper than he's asking, especially after buying windows and office for it which is already on both of these.  the air would come with an external dvd drive, that's what i meant by superdrive btw. i'm pretty sure you only get an ipod mini too. i have too much music for those and don't like Ishits anyways.

i thought i read your post throughly but i guess i missed a couple things. go for the pro 15 is perfect. upgrade the hd if you have that much music. i have a macbook, got it for christmas and is full it fillls up fast. you will enjoy either one no matter what. its a tough decision though.

Go with the pro.

And you could go with the new one.

Of course then you'd have to pay for office and windows.
Some people would tell you you could get windows and office for free, from sites like these:

one thing is that if you are getting a mac you don't need microsoft office. I use iWork and it works just as well as windows. It is a lot easier to use and you can ado lot more effects. I have never had a problem with switching between the two at school. It is a lot cheaper so you can buy it legit.

It depends what you're gonna be using your computer for. If you're gonna be watching DVDs, burning discs, installing programs, etc. on a regular basis, go with the Pro. If you don't need the optical drive that often, the Air isn't a bad choice. Unless you're into video editing and other processor-intensive tasks.

If you're interested in a new Mac, they just updated all of their notebooks. The 13" unibody MacBook Pro wouldn't be a bad choice now.

Don't buy any of that stuff. Open office or neo office for mac. Pretty much the same thing, just open source and free. Check it out

the new pros are way cheaper. start at 1,100 or something. and you can get up to an 8 gig touch for free. but upgrading to the new 120 gig classic is only 20$. and if you have too much music for that delete some because you will never listen to it all

Definantly pro. the airs overheat and have a few problems mac still need to fix.
