Glass v Body

What do you think, buy a D80 with the stock 18-55 lense, or a D40 with the 18-55 and 55-200
i like that the d80 has the auto focus motor in the body. I could do either for about the same price

buy a d80 body only and then buy a good lens, the 18-55 and 55-200 are not great lenses, you'll be happier with a good lens

why would you jump so far in terms of body quality?

Look at the d70 or d70s body. I'm sure you could find one for pretty cheap, and it's leaps and bounds above the d40, and only lacks a few things the d80 has. then

if you serious about getting into photography and stuff, then leave the video shit behind, adding video means they just probably spent less money integrating stuff into the still photo part of the camera just so they could put it in a low price range and have all the moms be taking photos with their "big new camera".

the d5000 is just a product to sell to people that want to use their camera on full auto with scene selections just like a point and shoot. and if thats what you want i mean go for it but if i were you i would go with a d200,d80 or an older model like d40, d60 and get nice lenses.

first camera on this page. read it. believe it. dont waste your money on a d80. buy the d40 and some nice glass my man. you can upgrade bodies later

Ya, thats what i was thinking. Are there any bigger zoom lenses that you would recomend for nikon?

it depends on how much you have to spend. the 55-200 or 70-300 will do fine if you have a tight budget. but obviously theres the 70-200 which is the best of the best but also like $1500

read reviews, look at price, and look at aperture, honestly you want to spend a lot on lenses, the canon equivalent of the epic zoom lens is like 650 lowest end model and 1600 highest end
