.mpg/iMovie help

I have edited on a PC for the last few years..I just got a new macbook pro and I'm having a little trouble with iMovie (havent gotten a chance to get FCP yet).

I'm editing some lax footage (bro) for my friend...when I plug the USB in they all appear as .mpg, but it says quicktime cant play them, and iMovie wont import them

what the fuck? any help?

download isquint. convert the .mpg's to .mp4's and then import them into iMovie. only solution i figured out.

mpeg stream clip, google it, convert to .mov. But, the previous statement converting to mp4 would work too.

You're a dumbass.

But I have heard that iSquint is a good converter for Macs.
Handbrake also accepts any video format now, but it sometimes crashes with non-DVD sources from my experience (on a PC).
