Snow Park Rumors..

Sounds like bull to me. They earn the majority of their money from terrain features and shredheads who come in the North American offseason. Unless the new owners are numbnuts or have a genius foolproof plan, then can't afford to take risks during this time of global financial trouble.

I heard it in a gondola in Keystone, and i heard it from 3 other kids parents, that are heavy into the ski industry

yep ive heard a rumour to the same tune. what i heard was that they're downsizing it not getting rid of it. going to nz soon and my friend in the know bought a season pass at cardie instead of snowpark for that reason

What the fuck else would you have up there? All the infrastructure that they have built the last 4 years would be a pretty big waste. Its not big enough to support a more family oriented resort, there is no terrain other than the park, and its just so super duper! The on hill accommodations have probably increased revenue to the owners in some form or another if not direct, and the new facilities are sick as!

 Snowpark is my most favorite place on the planet, and I cry because I can't be there right now every single night.

 Mostly i miss the muffins. :(

Okay tbh I don't, but at least a quarter if not more of the people must be from the northern hemisphere (just an assumption). My point is it's Snow Park and getting rid of the park would really defeat the object...

pretty sure its a rumour, if it was i think it would have been in the news over here, unless its just not finalised yet.

When i was in NZ, we went up there to check it out. now only the snowboarders we were with were decent at park, I mess around in the park but rather speed and pow and cliffs, and the other skier i was with is a big BC skier from pootah.

so me and the skier were hanging out. we were messing around on the chairlift with some people, but we really felt like we didnt fit in. kids were hitting these enormous jumps and we're like uhhhh

so this guy (hes like 30 or something, im 16, he was like one of our leaders) proceeds to undo his pants and sag them way low and skis around doing spread eagles and all that and some getting some nice turns in

well the story sucked, but it was a fun time. i dont see how they could make it not a park

however, and youll learn this as you get older... snowboarder, skier, monoskier, old guy with snowblades on, its not the ratio, or the style of clothing that makes you not fit in, its you.

nz open isnt being held at snow park because at the start of the year they were unsure financially, thats why they originally didnt release passes... so cardrona brought the rights to all the competitions.... nothing to do with the fact its for sale

so much misinformation in here. it's all been covered before too.

the lee's who own snow park and snow farm (xc ski area further up the hill) were in financial difficulity after they couldn't get bridging finance. they had recently invested alot of money in plans to build a gondola from cardrona valley to the top of the mountin range. resource consent and environment court hearings sucked up more money than was probably anticipated. more money was being used in finding a financial backer for the actual building of the gondola.

that is the reason that snowpark removed seasons passes from sale at the start of the year. they have now managed to secure more credit and passes are able to be bought again. the operations this year will be pretty similar to other years, but less staff will be hired. this is the same scenario as most other ski areas around new zealand - less staff providing the same level of service.

you didn't have to 'be in the know' to buy cardies seasons passes instead of snow park passes - it was common information for anyone who cared to look at the snowpark website or keep up to date with the news.

i'm not sure about the sale, but if i remember rightly, there were talks of sales at the start of the year. there is no way that snow park could be used for anything but park, it is physically too small. you'd have to be stupid to pay to do regular skiing at sp - the other local resorts have far better terrain in that respect.

hopefully everyone keeps supporting sp this season and help out the lees, their personal investment in wanaka and the cardrona valley is massive and it would be sad to see them loose all of that.

When I was there last summer it was for sale.  I am pretty sure that Snowpark is kind of done.  Cadrona is super close, just right across the valley and they are taking over. That is where the New Zealand Open will be this year.  They have a sick park and 22 foot pipe.

Snowpark is not kind of done. It went through a rough patch as most firms have been or are going through lately. They will still have a world class park and service this year and just because they are not holding the NZO dosn't mean Cardrona is taking over. Cardies has always had a sick park and 22 foot pipe and has been around longer than SPNZ.

cardrona will have a sick year this year.... but the fact is, everyone will be there, and cardies main chairlift is the park access chair too, so what will result is hundreds of park rats, in  line with hundred of families, (because cardrona is nzs family mountain) and the ques will be sooo massive, and the park so crowded, people will head to snow park coz its wont be busy at all... for cardies to work, snow park needs to be going as well
