Well... its that time of the year again!

Winter has basically come to a close for most of us, and site traffic is winding down from our blazing peaks of 2009.

What this means is that nopoles and some of his new ninja recruits (there's rumours of a mini-nopoles clone) are getting their code on.

We've got a pretty good idea of some of the things we want to see get tweaked on the site, and we've looked at a ton of your suggestions. I wanted to put this thread up to hear everything and anything you guys would like to suggest!

disagree. if you could see the jibbingame forum, multi quoting is horrible. the idea is alright, but it makes threads much more difficult to read after a while.

things to add, which have probably already been said:

cult searchbar- allow us to search the threads in a cult so that we dont have to search through each page

make the advanced searchbar the designated searchbar... and make the google search be something we have to click to get to. this will enable noobs to search through the real searchbar when they try to.

favorites section in your profile for videos, movies, and threads (the my threads is hard to navigate if you dont remember the title)

and the photo and video of the week... i dunno, maybe bring it up on the home page. i know that i scroll down to see it more often than i click on a blog entry.

Go with me here. I'll set up the situation.

You just logged on to NS. You click MyThreads. You notice that a thread you posted in has been posted in since you were last on NS. You want to go in to the thread but it's more than one page. So you have to click on the little number to get to the last page to see what that comment from someone else is. You can't click on the thread name, that would take you to the first page. At the first page you'd then have to click a few more buttons to where you want to eventually end up.

Instead if you want to go exactly to the right page from MyThreads. So you're stuck clicking the little number to get to the right page. Wouldn't it make more sense for the actual thread title to take you to the right page?

I feel it would just add a lot of fluidity between pages. Making NS quicker and easier to navigate than before.

Does this make sense to people? It's difficult to describe.

It makes sense, but I personally don't think it's hard to click the number, and it would probably be more effort to recode it than the feature's really worth.



Me? I'm happy with the little numbers. It's one of those quirks that makes the NS forums unique.

I'm glad I got my point across, I was a little worried for a minute.

But the little number thing isn't that big of a deal. I just thought it would be something really easy to change. It can't be more than a couple lines of coding, can it?

I think it's more that it's a couple of lines of code plus a shit ton of stability testing to make sure it doesn't bork everything else, as I think the way threads display are consistent across the entire site...... you'd basically have to rescript exclusively for the MyThreads area. Paul or Adam can feel free to call bullshit on me here, but from the perspective of a relatively savvy non-coder (me) I think I'm fairly on the money.

yep. also i still get horrid video buffer times on this site. worse than any other site i visit, except for maybe the berrics before they changed their video player, but even theyve fixed it now.

Is their a way to follow blogs? Follow meaning like a favorites section or something so i don't have to go searching for the blogs on NS i like to read.

For example, I want to follow the Dan Carr photo blog (it's awesome, keep it up). When Mr. Carr makes a new post it would be cool if i was somehow notified, either through some sort of message or other form of notification. I know the blogs show up on the right side, but following them on a more personal level (showing me only the ones i want) would be awesome. Under the "My NS" menu in the black bar on top, your blogs should be listed in a section called "My Blogs" (how amazingly original, I know). That would be cool.

I think this would also improve the blogs as a whole, more people would follow all the updates on their favorite blogs since it would be more convenient. And I hope there isn't something like this, then I'd look stupid on the interwebz.

i didnt read the thread so my bad if someones said this, but i like the way that facebook does their pictures.  you get a notification whenever someone posts about one of your photos or a photo your tagged in.  i only look at my own pictures on ns like once a year but i find like crazy comments that i would just never really see and not have a chance to respond to it.  I can picture it being useful for kids posting sick pictures of them in the air or on a rail and someone gives them props on it and whatnot.

how about being able to sort the threads in a forum.

for example...... under NSG you can sort them by date created/who created it/name of thread/# of views or replies.    sort of how you can sort your emails in your inbox in various ways.

this may help people find threads or subjects when they dont pop up right away when using the searchbar before they create a new thead.  

if this has been suggested already or there is a reason it cant be done go ahead and shoot me down but im sure this could help in more ways than one.

apologies if this has already been brought up. I skimmed but didn't see it.

I read in a couple previous threads that people wanted the karma rating available in other people's profiles I agree with this but think that there should be a box or something that tells you what they rate you.
i.e. I go to soandso's profile and there a box saying he/she rates you 7/10.
iono just a thought.

Honeslty, I haven't read anything in this thread except this page but these are my ideas, some of which I already saw on this page but I want to reinforce them:

-Search through/a way of organizing messages
-A way of editing posts.  Like how some webistes have updates/correctinos to the thread, they can actually post that update in the heading rather than the thread itself.
-A way to search through the cults (although I hear a rumor that this is coming soon!)
-Update the damn Movie Trailers section.  They're all last years movies and premieres for this year have already started.
-when you post a link, you should just be able to copy/paste it (like embedding does for videos) and have it automatically become a link without having to use the fancy editor .
-Make it easier/difficult to figure out how to drop out of a dead cult.  It took me forever to figure that out.



A few important ones pertaining to cults (since I don't venture into the main forums much anymore):
-A way to search through the cults (although I hear a rumor that this is coming soon!)
-when you reject or demote a member from a cult, pleeease don't have NS send them a message they've been rejected/demoted. that just pisses people off so I've stopped denying people altogether.  This becomes a problem in big cults like the 420 where ther's literally hundreds of requests that pile up because i don't want to piss people off by not letting everybody and their mom into the cult.
-make the cult news/blog sections more accessible. i feel like they're kidna hard to find so nobody really looks at them.

A Newschooler messenger addon would kick ass. It would also be awesome if there was a site wide chat where everyone can join in instant conversations with anyone online in the world of newschoolers.

If the fancy editor is turned off, you can post links and embed by copy and pasting, super simple.

I don't see the point of the fancy editor, its easy to add html tags when you want bold or italicize.

And I HATE when I get this message (just got it replying to you)...I exit out of the thread and forum, go back, take away what I wanted like before, and works. Why not the first time? DRIVES ME NUTS.

Ahhh I agree!! I have no clue why it happens but it bugs me so much when I get that error message. If NS would fix that it would be stellar!

also another thing i noticed is that sometimes when i try to make a link clickable i take off the begining http and everything but then nothing shows up and i have to do it a second time for it to work.
