Well... its that time of the year again!

Winter has basically come to a close for most of us, and site traffic is winding down from our blazing peaks of 2009.

What this means is that nopoles and some of his new ninja recruits (there's rumours of a mini-nopoles clone) are getting their code on.

We've got a pretty good idea of some of the things we want to see get tweaked on the site, and we've looked at a ton of your suggestions. I wanted to put this thread up to hear everything and anything you guys would like to suggest!

If someone doesn't take the time to search for a thread topic which has been done to death then it is fucking annoying, I agree though - i've seen some pretty cool shit by virtue of reposts

e.g. 'When is Chug Life 4 coming out'

You can make it close. Just go to My NS>Account tools> scroll down until you see "Close the message window after sending a message?" Then select yes.

on the upcoming events thing on the homepage it would nice to be able to see (next to the time and date)
the region

alot of kids dont know all the local hills around so if i could see right there next to the time and date that is in my tri state area i would GO
just a simple way to make it easier to advertise events and know that its in your region or even jost post what state/east west north area

or south central newyork

I would like to see a searchbar that searched within threads too, in addition to the title. People don't know how to create normal thread titles as it is, and sometimes its hard to find certain topics.

Thread preview so when you hover over a thread topic, it gives the first few words of the thread. That way even the crappily titled threads will be easier to skim through.

Eh, it works wonderfully on the other forums I am on that run of vbulletin. Then again though, it is a local forum where people don't shittalk the same way because they are not nearly as anonymous.

Alright run with me here...

What if NS had some cool connectibility with a site like Digg. Basically you would do the same thing you do with a Facebook page update when you "Digg" something.

When you digg something, instead of going to Facebook, it would be dugg on NS in the form of a thread! You could choose between posting in Media & Arts or Non-ski Gabber. Honestly those are the two places anything would ever go.

I feel like if this was implemented, there would be less reposts because it would be your thoughts on it (there would be a place to put your comments like on Facebook) and there would also be a picture and a news story on the thread. People would be getting better info and it would de-clutter the forums.

just a little tweak: it would be cool if on your friends list the first person would be the one who has been Idle the least amount of time and the last person is the one idle the longest
i.e. Click for larger image
i dunno could be good i don't know if there is any structure to the names currently

THIS RIGHT HERE!

I hate uploading videos and pictures and all I see is a red bar moving fast across the screen. It would be SUPER helpful to see what percent is uploaded because nobody likes sitting at their computer and not knowing when it is going to finish. When you can't see a percentage you don't know how much has uploaded, if it is even uploading correctly (did it freeze up?), etc.

MAKE THIS HAPPEN, PLEASE!

1) I think I actually made a thread about this, and it was called repost: Notifications facebook style, when ever you have been quoted. It doesnt have to update on your screen. but just when you refresh or log in. Because if someone quoted you, you know they are holding a conversation involving you. Also there could be multiple uses for facebook style notgifications.

2) In the information below a video there should be a section for songs, because myself like multiple other users I am sure are questioning the song of many vids. There is often a comment below each vid asking for the song, and no one knows the song better than the uploader I would hope. Also if this carries through make sure to allow for multiple songs.

3) Age of users, I can understand how this can backfire easily, and I have no idea of how to enforce it, but I think there is a general consensus that if you know how old the kid you are talking to is it will be easier to communicate.

4) I agree with the pros in purple idea, and the tags (I think Youtube is a good example)

5) With reference to spell checking... maybe it should be made that NS is solely compatable with Firefox, because it has spellcheck.

Also i think the feedback idea was amazing and has worked pefectly.

6) Double pits to chesty, he kills it!!!
Seriously it is not the advertising we have a problem with, it is the rediculous repeditiveness of the same add. I wouldn't even care if they were all axe commercials, if there was atleast a little variation. It would also be nice if it was advertising for something I would acctualy buy ... ex. Ski or atleast ski related stuff.

7) Lastly pop up advertising seriously has to stop... I heard that it is not through newschoolers, but if that is really through NS, that shit is annoying as hell.

PS: adjusted or not, this website will remain the most used of all my web brousing hours.

You can check this one off the list. Believe me, it drives me just as crazy as you!

This is actually a huge change, and its currently in progress. We've got to scrap the whole way NS handles files and re-build it... big job but one we need to do.

Here's a big question:

What do you guys think of the online list?

I mean there's so many people on the site these days, its not as useful as it once was. I still really like it for seeing who is online, but it takes up a lot of real estate.

The current idea we have is to adjust the online list so that it only displays on certain pages where you'd use it. IE - forums, profiles, cults. It wouldn't display on pages where you were there to consume media - homepage, pictures, videos, NSTV, news.

It would give us a lot of flexibility to display larger images, bigger videos, and fit more pertinent information above the fold.

I dunno... its a pretty early idea, but I think there could be a few pages that would be awesome without the whole online list.

I guess I'm cool with the idea. But please don't go overboard and only have the online list in few places. I look at it all the time, just as a habit.

But maybe after a few weeks I wouldn't miss it so much.

Another facebook-ish thing that I think would be very cool is to update the current "Status" thing in people's profile. So it is like facebook where you don't have to go to edit profile to update it. I think if you guys did that then people would use it a lot more and it could come in very handy.

ex: @ school till 5

(that way someone won't go making a thread bitching about why johndoe isnt responding to his PMs)

How about link the photo and video of the week titles on the homepage to all the previous photo/video of the weeks. I just though of that because i was looking for the video where a kid is follow camming and runs into somebody and then you hear him apologize and he sounds mad funny. But anyway i think this was a video of the week and i cant find it.

I'd like to see an edit post button so if you make a mistake(like press enter before you're done), you don't look like a post whore. It  can say when the post was edited. I've seen this in many, many other forums and I think NS should follow suit.

Its been talked about many many many many many times before. The result is that Newschoolers would not be the same if we were able to edit our posts. So this will never be a function of the site. At least I hope not.

NSG would turn into a shitshow, not that it isn't already, but can you imagine if these kids were able to edit and delete the things they post? You'd get people quoting and replying to something that was deleted. Or they reply to a post, but then it gets edited, so the response now is off. There is already the power to delete posts in cults, and I think that's all that's necessary. It allows the leader to give that power to someone who won't abuse it. It just isn't needed in the forums.

Also, NS wouldn't have some of the legendary threads that is has such as skiierman's faunt getting bigger or CrookedBoner's adventure in the woods with some males friends.

It just makes NS what it is.

i have nothing else to say besides that. so many people have 3+ failed picture embeds in a row, and it gets real annoying trying to go through a thread and seeing someone post 600 times in a row.

Well, in theory, you could "preview" your post to make sure the images load correctly and if they don't you can try again before actually posting.

It could be a good feature.
