Lately I'm finding it hard to want to do a lot of things I usually love to do. The main reason behind this is because if I decide to do something, my parents then force me to do it. For example, I play the trumpet. I'm pretty talented at it, but now I sort of hate practicing because my parents force me to for an hour every single night. It makes me not want to do it, so I'm basically wasting an hour every day. This happens for almost everything. Can anyone else relate?

Commit suicide.... Really tell your parents you want to do it, so when they force you into doing it, they get charged with some horrible crime and have to live with that for the rest of their lives.... That'll show them.

lol i know exactly how you feel...

i wanted to play the trumpet when i first got in to middle school so i did, but by 8th grade i wanted out so bad i never practiced barely played oh and i played cards with the tubas/drumers most days also (i kinda miss that part actually) well freshman year roles around and i tell my parents im not signing up for band, my dad goes crazy telling me if i quit than it will be that much easier to quit the next thing and so on so i was forced to stay in there even after all my friends left...

so this year i didnt even mention to my parents that i wasnt signing up, and my dad was just like so you arnt doing band this year huh? after he saw the band perform haha

i wasnt good at playing and i never ever practiced at home so i dont know how that part feels though...

i dont regret leaving for second....

Same thing happened to me with the Sax. I played it since like 5th grade and started hating it when I was forced to join the marching band freshman year. My mom made me practice a shit ton take lessons and what not and I just lost interest in it and haven't played in over a year.

I think I would of enjoyed it a hell of a lot more if I got to decide when I wanted to play or if I wanted to quit. I finally just said I don't want to do this anymore after being kicked out of jazz band for skipping practices to ski.

My advice would be to talk to your parents and tell them you are losing interest and that you just want to try out new instruments or new things. I am sure they will support you just don't do something you don't like doing because in the end you will end up quiting it because you are being forced to try and enjoy it and in the end it is just a waste of everyone's money and time.

woaw now, he's a 14 year old thats a very fragile age now! how about you learn to lie now buddy, its not hard to just put on some neal armstorng and play it loud so they think your practicing, and all it isnt very hard to just not obey, what are they gonna do scold you, yea you need to just take some nuts and tell them that your testing the damn waters and you dont just wanna do every damn thing you say, you just wanna try them out and see if that fits your personality

i used to play the drums from 4th to 8th grade. from like 5th grade on i never practiced and really had no interest in it, i just did it cause my friends were also played and we just fucked off in the back of class. then all my friends ended up quitting and were replaced by people who actually like to play instruments and my parents wouldnt let me quit. i was pretty pissed but stuck it out till 8th grade until i couldnt take it anymore, so me and my brother took my snare drum and threw it off my roof, idk why we did it we just did, we tend to have this mentality to fuck shit up, especially when drunk nowadays. after that my parents gave in and let me quit.

yea its called they want the best for you, suck it up and get used to it. if you dont want to do something straight up grow a pair and tell them, for a matter of fact if they still make you do it, be a bitch to them act like a dick and they will see that your a maturing young female

Hey man, I know you are talking about other stuff too, but honestly don't quit playing an instrument. As much as you may resent it right now, it is something not many people are gifted at and is awesome to be able to play after high school. I have played trombone/tuba since 5th grade (now sophomore in college), and it is soo fun to be able to play, even not that rigorously. I was wayy into band in high school and started to get burned out, but just keep a positive outlook and you won't regret it

Mother-Hucker, hey stop being a badass and realize that what i posted had relevance, in the fact that if they care about you so much they will hold you true to what it best for you, you could have a lazy sack parent who doesnt make you go organizations, doesnt make you dinner, and doesnt make you do your work, this parent is the reason we have the poverty cycle in america, yes i know your to young to understand it but fuck it im ranting! now if you really dont want to do something but your parents are forcing you, take the time to think how beneficial this could be to you in the future, and how when you have kids they will have a father who has stern values, but is strict and will keep them true. its all in the logic of whats best for you, now if you hate it so much be civilized and tell them its not what you wanna do with out a hissy fit

I had a conversation with my dad about this shit a little while after creating the thread. I completely understand what you're saying and it is right, but even my dad agrees that they should give me more freedom. It can be super hard to talk to parents sometimes though. Most of the time they know exactly what you are thinking and feeling because they have been through it before, but sometimes, as a result, they don't really listen to what you are saying because they think they are completely right. Or am I completely wrong? You're obviously older than me so give me your insight on this please.

naw man your right, parents think they know everything, which is a common misconception, you see what happens is since the times have changed what they know isnt exactly that they dont know everything, they just are out dated. but as morals and values go, and what they teach you by being stern they're most always correct, believe me ive had thousends of hour + long fights with my mom, lost my voice many times, and they just hold true to what they think is right, and most of the time ive found they are iggnorant and wont listen to your opinion, just wait till you get older in highschool, soph-jun-sen year will be hell, let me guess your the first, or only child?

dude i know exactly how you feel.  i am also 14 and a yust to play the violin.  i was in the same situation as you.  i tried a bunch of stuff but what finally worked was being a total ass to my teacher and getting basicaly kicked out of the orchestra.  hope everything works out for you man

yea man, this has happened with me in alot of stuff in my life, so good point

also as a reply to OP, middle child syndrome, if ya havent heard look it up, its mostly bs, but i believe in first child syndrome, which is where you are the ice break child, you have all the boundrys you get alot stiffer parent control, and you eventually have just a tougher time growing up then the younger sibs
