JOSS girls team

Im just thinking if this could ever or will happen. I know that the girls tricks are not up to par with the guys but because it is a video contest they dont really need to be. Their videos can and probably would be just as sick and creative as the guys just not have the crazy tech tricks. I know that the chances of it happening in the near future are probably pretty slim but i think it would be sick if there was a girls team and i think that it could push girls to be alot better. So im just wondering what everyone thinks about this?

If girls want to get better, then they will sack up and push themselves to learn new things. Having them in a new contest will not change the sport.

if jon adds one girls team he'll need to add more to have some competition. the videos this year were judged partly on the top 5 tricks, tricks matter.

girls just use the excuse that there waeker and are girls to not push themselves as much. plus the level of competition is so shitty and they just throw average joe tricks so i dont think they should be in joss

Right, and I understand your point. But even if a few girls who are on the team do sack up and do a few new tricks, it still doesn't mean a thing for the girls side of the sport as a whole. I mean the average half way decent guy skier is better than almost all of the sponsored/pro girls out there. If the girls side of the sport is going to grow/progress then it is going to take ALL of the girls out there to push themselves to try new things on a regular basis. If everyone steps up and pushes versus just the top few like Grete, Sarah, and Kaya who are already waaay ahead of the average girl skier, the level of girls skiing will improve. And you don't need a contest to give them an opportunity. The opportunity to improve is there every time that you step on snow and ride through the park. I have no doubt that one day there can be a legit girls team at JOSS competeing on level comparable to that of the guys. But, if girls want a team in JOSS then they are going to have to earn it.

what a lot of people don't realize is that it's much more difficult for girls to stay balanced and throw tricks in the air because their center of balance is more-so in their hips, while a guys center of balance is in his shoulders. It's not that the girls don't want to throw bigger, more technical tricks, but it is certainly harder for them to do so under control and comfortably.

how can a girls center of balance be lower in the body when men dont have breasts? guys center of balance is nowhere near the shoulders. the center of balance for everyone is at the center of mass which is the hip area. a tiny change in that is not why girls dont throw down. its because the stereotype of girls is that they dont usually play sports, let alone extreme sports and this either causes them to not even think of skiing or to not ski ridiculously well. think about it, if some girl suddenly starts throwing down dub cork 12s and sw dubble somethings a lot of ignant people are going to think shes weird.

I'm so sick of reading this BS over and over. This is such sexist crap when the hell is anyone going to just accept that girls are in fact not as strong as guys therefore not as good and can we just go on and support the people in this sport?!

You are wrong.  Women do carry their weight towards the hips because their hips in general are 10 inches wider than their hips. This is because their pelvis is much larger than a man's pelvis. This does not mean that their center of gravity is in their hips, but since they have more mass in their hips then men, their center of gravity is right above their waist. Men on the other hand have only a slight difference in size between their hips and their waist, and carry most of their weight in a thicker chest cavity and broader shoulders.  This does not mean that your center of gravity is in your shoulders, but more close to your sternum, which is still close to your core, but is not as low as a woman's center of gravity.  So, a male center of gravity is about 6-10 inches higher than a females center of gravity.

they were also competing in a blizzard and had no speed to clear them jumps.. so if you are going to open your mouth to say stupid pointless shit you might as well shut it.

that is a null factor because a lower center of gravity helps you to stay balanced easier.

 thats why those big blow up egg shaped punching clowns with the weight in the base always pop back up to their feet

this is just my opinion, i may be wrong.  but some guy posted up there mens center of balance is more near the core, which is where your supposed to spin right?  maybe that makes it easier for us to spin and stay in control?  anyone know if this is the case?

I don't know why everyone here seems so threatened by the idea. Women might be on a different skill level than men, but that does not say anything about their effort, dedication, or passion. I think a women's team or a woman per team would be a sweet addition that would give the contest a new dynamic. If women got the exposure that JOSS affords the participants it would do nothing but improve the level and caliber of women's skiing. JOSS is already an epic event and it would be cool to see the addition of women to the event. Professional skiing doesn't have to be such a fraternity.

yeah, i meant more that womens' body shapes are one factor to making them not able to compete as well.  Typical female athletes have 20% body fat. Male athletes have 11% body fat.  Men have more oxygen in their blood due to hemoglobin.  Men naturally have more muscle.  I am in no way saying that women are inferior to men, they are just different.  So you can't expect a team of all female athletes to ever be comparable to a team of all male atheltes, they will both be better at different things because they are different.

i think that girls should step it up more. i won't lie, i'm not really the best but thats only because this season was my first year freeskiing. but from what i see it pisses me off when girls don't even try. which most dont. in like competitions it sucks because there's hardly any competition and you don't really get to prove yourself. i really want to push myself to become as good as the boys (or maybe at least some) next season and i want to start training hardcore and competing more. i think more girls should step it up and actually ski

thats a solid attitude and the more girls we have getting into it and deciding to really push themselves the more likeley the girls will be closer to the guys

True dat.  The tricks that girls do on 30 foot tables aren't that dope.  If they were even able to hit a 120 foot table, they probably wouldn't want to do tricks.  There are a few girls stepping it up, but in general, they wouldn't charge it.

dude, gymnastics.  olympic trampoline. if girls can kill it at that there is no physical reason that they cant on skis.  as much as i wish there could be girls at JOSS, it really isnt consistent with the type of event jon wants to throw.  from what i can tell joss is about seeing the very top athletes throw the newest cutting-edge tricks on the world's biggest features, and the sad truth is that having girls there and having to celebrate a 360 would really change that dynamic.

seriously, its actually starting to get to me that everyone thinks girls arent trying. they are, they are pushing it as hard as the guys are, thats why a lot of girls get hurt, and that shows how far behind they really are. im not trying to offend any girls, but i see this in the ski world, which i follow more closely than the average skier. i do not see a girls team at JOSS, and to be honest, i think its in there best interest...its not exactly the mini park over there. the floater was about 120-130 to the sweet spot. biggest jump that the majority of the riders have ever hit. basically, you crash the slightest way wrong, your f-ed. again, not trying to offend anyone, but i feel very strongly about what i;m saying.

as someone said before, I would hate to see JOSS become a fraternity elite event. I dont  really know what Jon is looking for with this event but i think it is to see quality skiing/filming  and for the riders to have a good time.

I know girls are not at the same level as guys and bla blah blah, but if im not mistaken there ARE girls that could hit that jump, so my question is why not? For instance, Sarah Burke. I cant remember what movie it is, but she hits a pretty big jump, there's Abma and Bushfield too. I was surprised. any one know which one im talking about?  Anyways..I bet if some other girls would hit that, that'd be Kaya. And as it;s been stated before, its also about the creativity at filming. So what if they get last,it would still be quality video. Come on, symms and colby? they even said they were going for the people's choice award.

The thing is we don't know what the girls are capable of, tthey keep getting better. Just think of Roz's 1080 at WSI, who would've thought a girl could throw a 1080 in a comp 2 years ago? If Jon offered some ladies to  participate in JOSS and if they accepted the challenge, then I know I at least would be freaking stoked to see them slayin.

Sarah Burke - 1080 - 2007 WSI - First Woman to 1080 in Competition
Sarah Burke also did a 1080 back in 2003 or 2004 at the US Open big air before qualifiers even though there was no girls event.
