Orange Names

I know it has been mentioned before, nothing happened, so I am bringing it up again.

There are tones of orange names. It started as just pros, ams, and known company leaders (from what I saw). It has grown into pretty much every aspect there is out there all the way to local resort reps for NS. Orange names are far from dime a dozen these days.

What I want to know is this. If you feel they need these individuals be recognized, why don't you tell us why you are recognizing them? Tell us who they are in the terms of what they do and who they are affiliated with. I think in their profile it should show this information. Some names are a giveaway, but many aren't.

i actually thought the same thing a few weeks ago.

seems like they are handin out orange names like micheal jackson is handin out free candy from the back of his cargo van.

a lot of the name are self explanatory. but it would make sense for the orange name user to explain what it is that they do in their profile.

I totally agree and this is something I campaigned for early on when orange names were introduced.  I have gone so far as to send messages to individuals to expand on their profile.  If you feel so compelled, why not send an orange person who you are curious about a message?  My opinion - I am posting this as a personal opinion and not from a moderator or NS view point, is that...........

If you aren't going to represent who you are by filling out your profile, then you should not be orange.

This is my personal opinion.

I was under the impression that one of the main criteria for having an orange name was that you had a complete profile?

yeah thats what i thought too. itd also be sick if their names were the products theyre promoting. like BOONE_SKIS its easier to spot and you can search for them easier

And i have ended up messaging people to find out what they do, which shouldn't be necessary. It is even more shitty when you ask an admin what a certain industry member does and they simply reply with "ask them yourself".

I really have to weigh in here....

Though I know there are a lot of orange names... remember that this does represent how many people are on newschoolers that are fairly legitametly from our industry.

Some are smaler, some are larger, but we're doing our best to keep it legit.

Yes, not all have profiles, but the fact of the matter is that the orange name was introduced to make sure that you guys knew who was the real deal and who wasn't. Do I want to force Jon Olsson or Tanner Hall to fill out their profile? Fuck no! Shit them just posting is awesome. If they don't want to fill out their profile then fuck it.

Orange names are created so that you guys can see a post from jonaolsson or CCREWSOLDIER and know that its the real deal.

My guess is that this thread was created mainly in Pikupfulofsnow's threads on the blazers. In defense of Pete, even the industry should be able to do what they want. Come on, do we want to see pros be serious all the time or not want to voice their opinion because their name is orange. Fuck it, let them post.

Ok, on point.

Porportionally, there aren't many orange names, 250ish (pro-ho was friends with 233 people) out of 110,000 members. Thats 2 in 1000. That really isn't much at all. The thing is, NS is one of the biggest places in the ski industry for everyone to see whats going on. I know a lot of orange names (CLAIM) and they sit on NS and watch videos more than any other members I know. They are stoked on skiing. Why should that be prevented?

Doug is right about the legitimacy deal when a pro posts a thread. There is a special connection when an insider gets in a thread and spills great dirt to get everyone stoked hence every CCrewSoldier thread that I can think of.

Sometimes I don't understand why some names are orange and some names aren't. I'm not going to name names and I'm not talking about myself either.

I am talking about YOU. NS admins. You want to make them recognized(which you just agreed with), that makes my point even easier. YOU want them recognized so we know who is "the real deal" and who isn't. But was is the point of knowing if someone is "the real deal" if we don't even know what the hell it is that they are doing?

Why don't YOU tell us what they do?  Add a space in their profile and just tell us what they do in the industry? Fill it in yourself. Hell all you would need is a few words so at least the public could have a general idea what it is they do, we don't need a full history on the person.

What? Mod now? You're colours confuse me...

And a little blurb about what they have done for the industry or who they are would be great. Like for CCREWSOLDIER a simple "Tanner Hall, 'nuff said" would do the trick. I'm sure not every noob knows that's Tanner either.

Maybe even a name tag in their profile. For a company it wouldn't hurt to have the company name in one more place either.

How would a company become an orange name? Does it require advertising costs, or does NS select them for the orange name.

Companies pay for the advertising on the homescreen dependent upon the size of the advertisement and the views that it will receive. Users that have the "orange name," are either invited by mods or sometimes may possibly inquire, only to receive the orange through the recognition within the skiing community.

some guys choose not to get orange names so they don't draw attention to themselves, or they can post in the forums without giving orange names a bad name if something was to happen. Same with some blue name mods, just want to be normal members.
