Both teams have been playing great hockey. I'm a Pittsburgh fan, but there's no denying that Varlamov has been spectacular. The only thing that bothers me about the game tonight was Semin taking two blatant dives, and they were both called for penalties. In a series where the refs have often swallowed their whistles and let the players play, all anyone wants is consistency. Other than that, Scuderi has been playing amazing and shutting down Ovechkin. Game seven is going to be fun to watch. Props to Steckel too for that last redirect, great goal.

Varlamov won that game for Washington. If he wasn't playing as well as he was, that would've been a routing by Pittsburgh.

Incredible hockey though. Glad it's going seven. I don't care who wins, but I was not ready to see such a good series come to an end.

I still think Pitt takes the 7th game though.

God I can't wait for this Pens/Caps series to be over.  There's so much bad blood brewing here.  Everyone knew this was destined to go to game 7 though.  And like I said in that post before, Steckl is definitely underated.  Honestly he's been as much of a difference maker in this series as Ovechkin.

Am I the only person thats noticed this... but is Varlamov's glove hand really that bad?  I've been going through goals from the whole series and the majority he's been completely burned high glove side, or given up huge glove rebounds to goals, in addition to the cheapy that Eaton floated past his glove hand.  Why aren't the pens shooting high more often and glove side.  He's like a brick wall down low and blocker side.  They would have to be idiots to not exploit that more in game 7.  I'll estimate that about 75% of the Pens goals that weren't deflections were scored glove side.

It was an awesome series. Game 7 was not what I expected though. The Pens really showed up and handed it to the Caps last night. Way more than I expected as well.

I'm sure it was reviewed upstairs. They've been really good about reviewing goals upstairs quickly without interrupting the flow of the game these playoffs.

If it's cut and dry, it's a very quick review.

Ya when they review it in slow motion he jabs it a couple times, but in normal speed he just touches it it slides in and he pushes it a couple more times. Hard to explain but yea.

not impressed at all by the bruins. canes are lucky they have ward playing absolutely amazing cuz thats all they got going for them. if fleury can play solid and their offense continue to exploit the goalies weaknesses then pitts in the finals agian

1. Yes Ward is killing it
2. Chad LaRose has probably been the most underrated player in the playoffs this year
3. Staal is contending with Crosby for the best overall player in the playoffs so far. He has won a bunch of games singlehandedly over better teams than his.

I didn't watch nearly as many Canes games, but the ones I did, Staal was an impressive force. Every shift he was out, he created chances for Carolina. Definitely a difference-maker.

I don't think he is nearly as prolific as Crosby though. The numbers from the Caps series tell it all. As much as people rag on him, the pens would not be even CLOSE to what they are without him.

Canes are definitely being carried though by Ward's strong play, much like they did the year they took the cup back post-lockout. A hot goaltender can make the world of difference in the playoffs. Should be a real good series.

staal hasnt picked it up until the last few games, he hasnt been as dominant as people in pittsburgh expect of him. he is picking it up and starting to kill it, i wouldnt say he is on crosbys level though right now.

I'd love to see the statistics of Malkin's performances when his parents are in attendance vs. when they are not in attendance.  From what I've seen, when Mom and Pop Malkin are in attendance, Geno really elevates his game.  His parents are kinda like pop icons now here in Pittsburgh, based solely on the fact that their act of procreation has made such a great contribution to the sport of hockey and the city of Pittsburgh.  They're such a happy and humble family too, ridiculously genuine and kind people.  And if you saw in the post-game interview Mama Malkin's cooking is a key component to Malkin's success on the ice.

That last minute was ugly.

That check that started it all was retarded. It was icing, the 'Canes player charged in, led with his elbow WHILE jumping, and then threw a cross-check for good measure.

I hope a suspension gets handed down for that (Somehow I doubt it will get addressed though).

*I am neither a Pitt nor a 'Canes fan, so don't call me biased. Just calling a cheap shot as I see it
