They are done. After getting worked that bad last night in the third I do not see them coming back.

Pens/Caps is featuring some of the best hockey I've seen in a while too. The intensity is beyond that of any other series I've watched this year.

Well, I think that's that series in the bag... Canucks take too many stupid penalties and make dumb plays failing to get it out, goals go in net.

CAROLINA FOR THE CUP

If Carolina is going to wreck treams like NJ and Boston they have what it takes to go all the way. Though they might not be a team with unbelievable offensve skill like Pitsberg or Washinton, or be 4 forward lines strong like Boston, they got heart. And thats whats going to lead them.

By the way I'm a Montreal fan ... too bad they couldn't play with the best ...

In the means of their sweep I'm going for any other Canadian team (Vancouver) as well as Carolina.

i don't really like ovechkin at all, but he's such a good hockey player. he's the best in the NHL imo, he ain't suckin anything

penguins own, ovechkin sucks i hope people realize that. yes he doesnt actually suck because he can score but other than that he sucks... he cant pass he cant play defense and he is really good at cheap fucking hits. i hope he gets fined for that cheap ass hit on gonchar.

Ya he's awesome at getting the puck in the net....but that's about it. He can hit ok, but not like an enforcer, and some day someone will get fed up and own him.

Sure he can score, but I would take players that can set stuff up like Datsyuk or Crosby any day. Might not make as many goals individually, but pucks will be put in the net much more with their style of play than with Ovechkins.

thats why they are now losing the series. its a one man team and it took the pens 2 games to figure out how to play defense against him. if you stay in front of him and slap at the puck with your stick he cant shoot.

They figured it out so well, he had 2 goals and an assist last game.

You people are deluding yourselves. Ovechkin is a great player. He is not great defensively and I don't think as many do that he's the best player in the league right now, but he is the most dangerous offensively. Also, he does hit cleanly, and does so a more often than anyone else in the top 10 scorers. Washington is not a one man team; without Ovy they are still a playoff team. Fedorov has been almost as good as Ovechkin has (or was until he hurt himself running into Gill's stick, and he's still been good since). They're good with or without him. They just wouldn't be in this series without him. That is reality.

Acting like a homer just makes you look like a tool who knows nothing about hockey... if all you can do is root for your team like they can do no wrong, and say ridiculously exaggerated bullshit about the other team, your opinions aren't really even worth expressing.

I think WA has a better shot at coming from 3-2 down than Vancouver. Right now I expect Det vs. Chi and Pit vs. Car. To beat Carolina you have to somehow stop Staal. I suggest landmines in the locker room and snipers in the rafters.

i think his one goal was on a power play which makes sense he is great at coming in backdoor and scoring. his other goal was a defensive error, i think it might have been letang that gave him to much space. if he would have moved up 3 feet and played right in his face like they have been i dont think he would have got that wrister off. they wouldnt be in the series without him which kind of makes it a one man team, without him they wouldnt be where they are. ovechkins hits are really not that clean a lot of them are very dirty, screaming across ice to hit people with their heads down isnt really clean in my book and neither is taking more than 3 big steps at them. he obviously isnt terrible but he is not a very rounded player, he scores thats really it.

No, the first goal was at 5 on 5, him walking in to about 10 feet inside the blue line and ripping a wrist shot to the top corner from somewhere no one is supposed to score goals witha  D man right in front of him. The second goal was a one timer off the rush just inside the post, leaning forward and off balance. The power play goal was Backstrom, and it was a give and go. Were you watching at all?

Letang has definitely played terribly this whole series despite the OT goal. Gill has been by far Pittsburgh's best D-man.

From an outsider's view (neither a pitt nor a caps fan), Ovechkin is one of the most explosive and exciting players in the league currently.

That said, I do believe that Pittsburgh has the more complete team and will take the series in 7 games. Carolina/Pitt should be an interesting series to call as Carolina has been more or less an underdog the whole playoffs and they've been taking names.

West coast, I can't speak for as much, but the Hawks/'Nucks game I watched lacked the intensity and passion I've seen from all the other series I've seen.

I agree for the most part. Personally I believe he is the most talented scorer in the league and wasn't saying he isn't a great player. I was just saying he can't do it alone. I understand he has a good supporting cast, but like you said, not phenomenal and not good enough to stand up to alot of the other teams. I would still take a play maker like datsyuk or crosby over ovechkin, they just turn out more goals and can do more than ovechkin can do on his own.

i am a HUGE pens fan. but as a solitary player in terms of skill ovechkin is definetely better than both crosby and malkin.

i myself am a huge ovechkin fan and believe that he is the best player in the nhl.  im not saying that malkin and crosby aren't good players because they are great, but the only reson they have as many points as ovechkin is because they have each other and other good players like staal guerin and sykora that the caps dont have. if you switched ovechkin with crosby and malkin he would easily have more points than both of them.  also ovechkin is a pure goal scorer and can turn nothing into a great scoring chance like no other player in the league.

Everyone's always comparing the top couple scorers in the NHL and arguing over which guy is the best in the world. None of them can play defence, aside from Datsyuk and Zetterberg who are both great at it. The best player in the world for YEARS was Nick Lidstrom, and he's still pretty high up on the list. It's usually not the guy who's scoring the most goals.

And the best player in the playoffs so far has probably been Eric Staal; he does everything including PK and takes over the game whenever he's on the ice. Even in this one, which was pretty one sided in Boston's favour, there were a lot of his shifts where they'd wait for him to get off the ice before trying anything.

i do agree with this partially but the thing is that anyone who is not a die hard hockey fan will only remember the top goal scorers and they wont be able to judge the players based on their defensive capabilities or any other aspect of the game besides scoring

I agree, the Caps are pretty solid on offense.  Although Semin kind of tailed off at the end of the season, and he's been kind of a ghost in the playoffs.  But i never would've thought Federov would be playing at this level at his age.  He's still got the speed and a shot.  Backstrom and Steckl are underated too in my opinion.  Mike Green is slightly overated.  He's quality, but he's racked up a lot of points, making simple outlet passes to AO, semin, and Federov and working the point on one of the best power plays in the league.  Without AO the caps would've likely filled in the #7 or #8 seed in the east.  It's pretty hard to make up 56 goals that a guy is scoring.  AO and Varlamov have basically been carrying the Caps on their collective backs through the playoffs.

But I must say i disagree with you on AO's hits and physical game.  I personally think he's more of a headhunter than a stratigic checker.  A lot of his hits are the result of him cruising around like a shark in the neutral zone, taking runs at guys from 40-50 feet.  A lot are charges in my opionion.  Every camera man and their mother can see him widing up for a hit.  3+ strides a lot of the time, and occasionally leaving his feet.  The knee on knee hit he laid on Gonchar in game 4 was pretty cheap.  AO says it was unintensional but he clearly redirected his knee after Gonchar evaded the initial check.  I don't really like AO's style.  Everything he does is a spectacle.  The skate laces... the goal celebrations... dressing up like a fool at the skills competition.. intentionally showing up at the rangers morning practice in Round 1, knowing he's was going to be removed by security.  He plays for the back of the jersey... not the front.  Him and sean avery can start an NHL nWo.

There are a lot of highly skilled,  humble players that are contributing to successful hockey teams without this fluff.  Crosby and Malkin in Pittsburgh, Toews in Chicago, Carter and Richards in Philly, Cammalleri and Iginla in Calgary, Datsyk and Fransen in Detroit.  For granted Ovechkin can back it up.  He's the best pure goal scorer in the league hands down, best shot, fast and strong.... but act like you've scored a goal before.

i was surprised to see boston actually come to play last night. they haven't been like that at all since the first round against montreal. but i think carolina is gonna end up beating boston next game. im thinking that the capitals are going to make a comeback as they did in the first round to beat pittsburgh in game 7. ovechkin is really fucking good and can make people around him better with his skills. the only reason the penguins won last game was because they got really lucky with the capitals player hitting in the puck on his net. as for the west, the redwings are easily going to take the series without a doubt unfortunately because im a hawks fan and i despise the redwings. but between vancouver and the hawks, i think the hawks are gonna pull out with the win tonight at home at the UC. last game between them, the blackhawks were definitely out playing the canucks. the momentum of that series has changed from the canucks now to the hawks. i think if the hawks can pull out of this game with a big win tonight they can bring that momentum into the semi finals and possibly go to the stanley cup
