Summer Junior big mountain camp in montana

For any junior big mountain girls or guys out there.. or any new kids looking to get into skiing big mountain this summer a great new summer camp is being held.

Learn how to ski steeps, line selection how they judge big mountain comps , jump (we will have tables hips, and all sorts of rails and rock stalls to play on) Avalanche Saftey + loads more..
Learn from camp director Justin Modroo (multiple podium finisher on the us and world big mountain tour) and his coaches of pros to be the best big mountian slayer you can..
Located high in the montana/wyoming back country atop Beartooth pass
(same place where the Empire camp used to be held)
There will be lots of prizes, afternoon activities and lots of fun to be had for all..

At the end of the week there will be an IFSA sanctioned Junior big mountain comp with lots of prizes.

this looks like such an awesome camp. not many people do this...and it really takes skill and balls to win a big mountain comp. If this camp can teach that, props.

the more support the better this is a 1st time project. and we would really love to hit the ball out of the park this year soo we can come back bigger and stronger with more coaches and more sessions next year..
the terrain is by far the best out of any summer camp in the world ..

like you said there si going to be rails and jumps etc.. is it goin to be open to the public at all. i went there like 5 years back for a freestyle comp.

there will be some rails and some jumps .. but there is soo much terrain you wont need to be hitting many jumps.. here is a photo of the venue..

Couple questions:

Could we buy daily lift tickets and not do the camp?

If so how much would they cost?

If the camp is from the 8th-12th how many days would you actually ski?

What kind of activities would you have for after you got done skiing?

What do you plan on having for jumps and rails?

Day tickets can be purchased for $45, any day they are operating (5-23-09 to 7-?-09).  The camp would be five days of skiing with potential for guided descents of other headwalls in the area.  Outdoor activities include.. fishing, hiking, biking, skate park, geology tours, swimming, clay center visit, movies, etc.  The terrain park will have table tops, some rails, and the use of a cat to make custom hits.

Sick idea for a camp, Im glad the Beartooths are starting to take off again. I know the ski area will be selling public lift tickets but will the public be able to hit the mentioned rails and jumps as well?

To people wondering about the terrain offered, it is sick. Lift accessed gets up to about 35-40 degrees with some cornice drops. Skiable backcountry in the beartooths is nearly limitless all summer and is possible to find some real sick lines and get some serious vertical using your thumb and the highway as a skilift. You guys need to hop on this! I would attend but I will be lucky to get more than a few days off of work all summer. I went to a camp in the Beartooths once about 6 years ago and it was probably one of the best things I have ever done.

Beartooth BigMountain Camp

For all junior big mountain skiers, girls, guys or any new kids looking to get into skiing big mountain skiing, this summer a great new summer camp is being held.

Operating under permit with the Red Lodge International Summer Ski Camp and the Shoshone National Forest, the camp is located on the Twin Lakes Headwall (pictured above).

Learn how to ski steeps, avalanche safety, line selection, keys to winning big mountain comps, how to deal with fear, jumps (we will have terrain park features), plus loads more including potential for guided descents of other headwalls in the area.

Learn from camp director Justin Modroo (multiple podium finishes on the U.S. and World big mountain tours) and his coaches consisting of several other pros (TBA).  All to help you become the best big mountain slayer you can.

Steeps are the shit with wet summer corn snow! The snow there melts and refreezes so much that it gets a little granular and looser than normal heavy snow would. But it is possible to get snow, Ive been there when they got like 4 inches of heavy pow and it was ok.

I dont think anything can beat Windells simply because of there size, but for those that cant afford camps like Windells and Camp of Champions this is a great option.  We have big plans for a park this summer there is plenty of snow to work with and the cat driver up there is one of the best so expect some sick fetures.  You can ski there for 35 bucks a day and its pretty cheep to stay in red lodge not to mention all the free camping.  It should be an epic summer up on the pass and it would be well worth the trip.
