End sexism in contests

I had a great idea just now. Girls and guys skiing has been seperated in terms of skill for a long time. Something needs to be done to get it on the right track! Soooooooooo, END THE SEXISM! Instead of X-games girls and guys events, lets combine em! That way, for like, superpipe, no more girls and guys events, just one big ski superpipe event.

Obviously, the girls arent goingto be going as high or doing as great tricks, so something like a handicap would be imposed on the guys so that the girls have a real chance against Tanner. But wouldnt that be cool?!?! A girl could beat out Dumont for the overall pipe contest and we could show the rest of the world that our sport is the lone one where gender doesnt make a difference!

honestly i wouldnt mind seeing girls compete against guys in contests. but lets face it, as of now, girls just arent as good as guys at skiing. you just dont see the same kind of skill level and progression. it wouldnt make sense to let them compete against each other if the girls were destined to lose. the handicap ideas not terrible, but how could you said "i just beat tanner in the pipe" when in reality you didnt come close? i just dont think it makes sense.

As to your idea, I don't see it as a good one.  You talk about sexism, yet ask for an advantage in competition BECAUSE of your sex.  Can you see the problem with that?

You way of doing things is actually MORE sexist than what we have now.  You are giving one group of people preferential treatment over another, based on their sex.

You can say it is sexist that women do not get to compete in the X-games, and I agree.  But the way to do it is to have ANYONE be allowed to try and qualify WITHOUT a bonus for being female.  Women would then be allowed to compete it they were able to beat the men.  I doubt they would, but at least things would be based on merit, not sex.

Given that there are differences in ability I think it makes sense to have events for men, and events for women.  If the events for women are judged to be popular enough(read:  The event organizers can make money off of them) then they get just as much exposure as men.

The lack of x-games events/exposure for women is NOT based on sexism, it is based on money.  When female events get the same ratings as male events, they will be promoted to the same extent.

Actually, a handicap would make it unfair.  The whole point of the competition would be so that the best person wins.  Putting a handicap in would take away from that.  It is a silly, and poorly thought out idea.

If there is a girl out there who can beat Tanner Hall, I'm all for it.  But she has to actually ski BETTER than he does.  Winning because of a handicap will make the women look like a joke.

When female sporting events generate as much revenue as male sporting events, the prize money will be the same.

This really is not hard to figure out.

One of the less intelligent posts in this thread, and that is saying quite a bit.

Height and athleticism are NOT the same thing.  Many of the greatest athletes in the world are short.  Look at a sport like soccer.

Freeskiing takes AMAZING athleticism.  It just does not take much height.

i just wanna say the majority of progression is done outside of competition. if a girl wants to get better just go ride with a crew of guys or something. that would be better than combining comps.

    No offense, and as a girl, I am sorry but I think this is a HORRIBLE idea. Do girls and boys play together/ against each other in other sports on a professional level? No and there is a reason for that. Just statin the facts obviously not being sexist, but its because boys are stronger than girls in general. If girls and boys skied against each other in the xgames and shit there would be no point for girls to even attempt to compete.

    I think this is a great idea.

    I telemark so I think I'll take that handicap...sure I can't do anything close to a competitive pro alpine skier, but there just aren't any tele comps with good prize money...and hey, if you start giving me money for being worse, i may get better.. END DISCIPLINISM IN CONTEST!!!
