End sexism in contests

I had a great idea just now. Girls and guys skiing has been seperated in terms of skill for a long time. Something needs to be done to get it on the right track! Soooooooooo, END THE SEXISM! Instead of X-games girls and guys events, lets combine em! That way, for like, superpipe, no more girls and guys events, just one big ski superpipe event.

Obviously, the girls arent goingto be going as high or doing as great tricks, so something like a handicap would be imposed on the guys so that the girls have a real chance against Tanner. But wouldnt that be cool?!?! A girl could beat out Dumont for the overall pipe contest and we could show the rest of the world that our sport is the lone one where gender doesnt make a difference!

the way you said that made me laugh... combine the categories so the girls can show they are just as good as the guys... but put a handy cap on the guys so the girls have a chance of winning. and with that handy cap put on one of the girls might beat dumont and people would actually consider her better?

i know a few girls who are sponsored because they just suck up to the reps and look really good, but when no one is looking they just b-line down the park not even hitting the easiest flat rail.  people can respond to this how they want, but it is unfortunately very true...

hahaha this was not a good thread to read in class I could not stop laughing.

The arguments made by the girls here are just sad and stupid.
If you want girls skiing to progress to the point where we can compete against guys fairly, girls have to be able to push themselves past their comfort levels without being pushed by guys. Do you really think getting your ass handed to you in EVERY comp by guys would encourage you to try new tricks or throw down harder? No. you'd probably get completely discouraged and give up. The guys don't throw pussy tricks, every single trick you see, the first time they tried it they were probably scared shitless. It's a fact that girls and guys cannot compete on the same level. I am all for ending sexism, try living with the most stereotypically sexist dad, but it's not something we're just going to be handed. And giving girls handicaps just so they can compete with guys will not help at all.
We are made differently [just incase you failed grade 1 science]. Guys are bigger, stronger, they are built physically for muscle and fitness. Girls [not helping the sexism i know] are not built to be strong and muscular we're supposed to have babies and be nurturers.
I'm down for practicing with guys, hell all the people i ski with ARE guys, but there's no way I would have a fair advantage competing with any of them. It wouldn't be fair to us and it wouldn't be fair to the guys.
So stop bitching.

So pumped on this decision, as I've never seen this thread before now. The second post was one of the best responses I've seen on this site.

As far as getting girls to step it up, this will come naturally as girls in general get more interested in skiing. The larger the women's ski market, the more money sponsors and companies in the ski industry will be willing to put towards more women's comps and larger payouts. Until some chick steps up to the level of the pro guys, she should stay in the girls circuit, but I'm sure no one would argue if she could hang. I think a reasonable thing to shoot for is equal payouts for girls and guys at comps, but I doubt that will happen until as many women's skis are sold as men's.

other point? if girls and guys were in the same comp, judges would be incredibly sexist. They'd see someone like sarah burke whip a 5 around and see how hot she is and automatically give her a good score. . . They shouldn't be together, sorry.

women's skiing and guy's skiing aren't even comparable. That's not sexist, it's just true. But you can't have a comp between people doing 3 doubles in a half-pipe and people whose biggest trick is a flailed seven at the last hit.

End Sexism, well isn't a handicap sexist. Tanner is Tanner cause the guy can throw down. If a chick can throw down at that level then go for it no ones standing in the way. I would be the first to accept a female pipe champion, but to have the title you gotta be the best.

gender is far more complicated than this my friend. gender itself is the problem. also, you contradict yourself by instituting the handycap. if girls were going as big as dumont, then you'd have an argument, but in society it's easier for girls to be sexy and smooth, than gnarly and bad ass. It's a lose lose, just have fun and don't worry about it, besides, the only gender issue any one really needs to worry about is the relationships they have with intimate partners anyway. Sex and skiing that is. (this is also why skiing deep pow makes us feel like we're in love... because we are... but with skiing pow)
