Wow, neither of them advocated their positions well, and Ron Paul certainly threw all credibility out of the window with his answer on the final question. How can you make decisions on drug policy if you've never smoked the chronic?

how does the fact that he has never smoked pot make his arguments any less legitimate than if he had? it doesn't. If anything, his outsider perspective gives him a BETTER view on how pot affects society.

the best was when bladwin talked about how there would be more deaths like car accidents because of alcohol. Tons of high kids drive, and tons of drunk kids drive already. drunk driving is one of the biggest killers out there, driving while high? well there aren't any numbers i can find, so i assume its insignificant. he makes it sound like legalizing MJ will allow people to drive while high, as if they dont already.

Because he has no idea what the effects of pot are. If anybody has any credibility here it's stephen baldwin. I mean seriously Ron Paul said that he's never been around pot before. so how does he have a clue what it's effects are to those who smoke it and those who are close by.

Ron Paul is not an idiot. by stating that he does not smoke pot or associate with other people while they smoke pot, he is showing that he is not biased towards marijuana. nobody can associate him with a stoner or that lifestyle, therefore his opinion is given credibility above that of your stereotypical pothead.

I have to say, with so much talk about legalization it must be near (like within 20 years) i mean everyone i know that smokes and drinks thinks smoking a j isnt as bad as drinkin.  There's just so much supporting legalization its stupid that it isnt legal..

Ron Paul is far from an idiot, I think he's also a doctor. But his argument was pretty weak in this clip. and I'm all for legalizing marijuana, there's much worse drugs that are legal that are pushed to people by corporations than pot. But for trying to be persuasive here Paul doesn't do a very good job. His credibility in comparison to Baldwin, who was addicted to drugs and has seen the negative effects of drugs, isn't as strong as it could be. Had he stated in his argument any research of study he had done on the effects of marijuana use on the human body and on society then he may have been more credible. But the gov't policy on drugs needs to change, and I'm actually with Ron Paul on this one, I just don't think he did a great job of advocating for it in this clip.

yea, he was mostly advocating freedom and the hypocrisy of our current situation with mari, tobacco, and alcohol. very weak.....

Baldwin was grasping at straws, ohhh high drivers if it's legal. Just admit it, you have a boner for the baldwin bois.

What you are saying is retarded. just because he's never exerienced it doesn't mean he can't advocate a position. That's like saying you can't make laws prohibiting murder if you've never killed someone. It doesn't make sense. There are many reasons for Ron Paul to advocate a strong pro-marijuana stance, some of them being: Drug cartels would vanish, hemp would become legal again [huge], tax money could be upwards of 1 billion for Cali all profits, and simply the freedom that every American should enjoy. I don't need to have smoked to want any of these in my country, and Ron Paul illustrates these points when speaking. He takes a stance that shows all the positive results EXCLUDING the point that it makes you high.

As for Baldwin, he had nothing to  refute Paul with, so he tried to attack his credibility. It's a dick move, but the only one the Republican party has been able to come up with that is NOT a "faith-based" non-factual argument.

none of ron pauls points are based on the effects of marijuana, he is only saying that the government should not have the right to outlaw any substance, be it alcohol, weed, coke, whatever, that has nothing to do with the effects of any of them, which could be bad, but he is saying the government doesn't have the right to decide any of that shit so it doesn't matter if hes blown a mountain of coke or never touched a drink or drug in his life

yep thats why Ron Paul is the man, a true libertarian.  Do whatever you want in your own house, the federal government has nothing to do with it.  When this country was founded states rights was the main form of government.  Nobody wanted a large federal government.  Let the states run themselves, if Vermont wants to lower the drinking age, go for it.  maybe it will bring in some revenue from New Hampshire. 

Sidenote:  This is also why people say Ron Paul wants to overturn Roe v Wade.  He doesnt think it should be a federal decision.  If Missouri wants it outlawed they can vote on it, if Kansas want it to be legal they can vote too.

even if they started passing that law now it wouldnt come in effect for about 2 years because my us history teacher said thatit takes a long time to amend a law in the constitution. I agree with a lot of what ron paul has to say though

Did you actually pay attention to Ron Pauls points? you're claiming that he doesn't have credibility because he hasn't had first hand experience. And although he claims not to smoke, we can assume that he has at least once in his life. And even if he hasn't, he is educated, and has educated himself enough to have more credibility than you are giving him.

His points were actually clear and concise. Decriminalization of marijuana and other drugs would create a more stable environment. Ever heard the quote if you can't beat em, join em? Well this is a fine example. Just because there are laws out there, doesn't mean people are going to follow them. Do you always wear your seatbelt?

The fact that mj and all other drugs are illegal makes them so damn TABOO that it entices people. People go out of there way to get ahold of drugs. If they were regulated as tobacco, which Dr. Paul stated is an EXTREMELY addictive drug, minors would be seeing LESS marijuana. Your local dealer would be out of his job, and all the 15 year olds would have to find someone who is at least 18 to buy them weed. And no one likes to buy alcohol for minors, so why would they want to buy weed?

I think nicotine can be placed up there with heroin, just because of the sheer volume of people who smoke chew, or do other stuff with tobacco and are addicted.
