We added quality... so why the youtube vids?

So we worked our brains out to get the video section quality higher... yet when I browse through I'm still seeing people add vids from Youtube, Vimeo and other sources that are way lower quality in small windows.  

Why?    When we have higher quality, why do you want to post your video on another site before putting it on here?

When we have comparable quality I really hate how the video section looks with all the embeds.   Don't you?

It would be nice to be able to click on any part of the load bar and watch the video from there instead of the video restarting. It makes it just that much easier to see just how Wallisch does what he does.

Encoding quality. I uploaded this video directly to the site, but the encoding messed up and there's some noticeable lags and distortion of the audio which frustrates me. Hence the reason i put the vimeo link in as well.

I understand the need for advertisements and I know fifteen seconds of advertising isn't very long, but I would rather watch a slightly lower quality video that doesn't have a Navy ad first. If there is an option between NS video and Vimeo, I usually watch the video on Vimeo. Those fifteen seconds add up if you're watching 30 videos.

Vimeo loads faster.

The Vimeo quality is really good.

Vimeo doesn't show you the same lame Ad at the beginning (I am from Germany, so the Ads annoy me even more, because they aren't really relevant for me)

Vimeo is 500 mb and even more with a PRO account.

I hate Youtube though.

end of the story is that even facebooks flash player produces better quality than newschoolers. and vimeo is still the easiest/fastest loading/best quality upload right now. other than the old ns that just let you upload and didnt do affect the file at all

Ugh I can't even watch NSTV without it buffering every 3 seconds 1-100. I'm on wireless, 54Mbps and I can't watch any newschoolers uploaded videos unless I let them completely load before I watch them. That takes a long time,and sometimes doesn't even work. It works fine enough on my other computer which has cable, but for my laptop it's just not working well.

youtube/facebook/vimeo videos look better than NS right now and you don't have to watch ads. I dunno what you guys need to do to match it but foreign embeds should be allowed until then.

..just tried uploading a 50 mb video onto ns, and it literally took an hour, so i gave up.
started uploading it to vimeo about 5 minutes ago, and its already at 58%..

also, another suggestion for the video update would be to show an actual PROGRESS bar - not the random red bar that never ends.

Ideally everyone would upload using NS but, problems I have encountered:

-Slow upload speed/videos fail to upload
-Advertisements (30 sec. ad for 30 sec. video)
-Slow download speed
-When i finish watching a video, if i want to watch a part of it again, whether its in the beginning/ middle/end another ad starts before i can watch it
-Clicking on certain parts in the bar that shows the progress of the video always puts me at the beginning of the video, not the part i clicked on.

I usually try to upload to NS first but 1/2 the time firefox freezes and i have to use vimeo.

Every time I have tried to upload to NS, the red bar comes up, I wait for a long ass time and then the bar goes away and nothing happens... it doesnt even work. Plus you can only upload 300MB, It's a pain in the ass to have to export my video to get as close to 300 as I can without going over. Vimeo works the first time, every time, and you get 500MB, plus HD capabilities, no commercials, and usually everything plays smoothly without hiccups or audio lag. NS is just amateur right now, they need to make some more adjustments, then once they are up to par they could delete embeds and everyone will be happy.

I think you called it all out right there. :)

This looks exactly like the list that we have here to correct. Its all in the works, and know that we're addressing each and every one of these issues!

Currently newschoolers backend is basically in pieces strewn about on Paul's floor. Once he manages to build it back into a working site, it will be able to address all this functionality and have a super competitive video system!

Mods with RED NAMES or other mods (just as important)

im glad there are youtube and vimeo vids. i cant get ns's vid section to work at all, ive updated all of my software, deleted temp files, ive literally tried everything and i cant get a single video window to show up on the screen

i've had a similar issue. probably something with my flash player but still might pose a problem as youtube and vimeo videos work.

You tube is better cos millions of people use it and search on it and find your video. but yeah, the quality sucks a lot and it looks bad too. I feel this is the worst of the 3.
NS is enfuriating cos of the ads, the amount of times i've changed my mind about watching a video on ns cos of them persudes me not to use the ns uploader.
It also doesn't look as nice as Vimeo.
And i don't know much about what makes a flash video good quality but i'm certain that vimeo looks better to me.
mainly the adds, the general look of the player and sending people a link to "my vimeo" is why i prefer to use vimeo.

Guys I haven't seen any mention of people on older computers, but the ONLY videos that run reliably on my machines are the youtube embeds. NS vids being a distant second, stuttering sometimes but more or less ok, and then I can't even describe how much I hate Vimeo, but it regularly locks up firefox for me.

Maybe I just suck and need to pony up for a new machine, and I'm a still image guy not a video one, so I can't tell you much about codecs and stuff, but...... that's my issue with the NS vids at the moment. That and pretty much everything else that's already been mentioned.

Do you have an adblocker on your browser? try disabling it and then see if the videos work. for a while having adblocker+ on firefox would block the preroll ad and not let the video play

I would be down to support if NS showed a progress bar while uploading, supported larger files, encoded in HD, and tried to shorten the ads. Kind of a tall order but maybe you can find a way to use icons with the vids even if they're from vimeo if that's whats concerning...
