Racing Seats

I want to get some racing seats for my car...I don't really know anything about seats. What are some good companies/where should I start?

Well I don't know much about racing seats, but I have heard good things about Sparco.

They look bad ass too.

well first you need to decide what type of seat do you need. have you actually sat in any race seats or do you just think they look cool? I'm not hating it's just something you need to think about because full on race seats don't have adjustable seat backs, can be pain in the ass to get in and out of and if you use a racing harness they can be just annoying on an every day basis.

If you are just looking for a racing seat because it looks cool, but you still want some comfort. you will need to look more into the sport seats or depending on what car you are putting these in, look into swapping your seats for a sportier models seats (example: putting S4 seats or RS4 seats in an A4).

When looking at companies Reccaro, APC, Sparco, are some of the bigger players out there.

Really think about your needs though and if you want these seats for looks or performance, because in my humble automotive opinion, buying racing seats for just the looks is not a sound investment. If you are looking for less sliding, there are these things you can buy which cinch down your seat belt that are relatively inexpensive but I can't think about who makes them right now.

the only time u need race seats is if your driving a race car on a track or own a rediculous car like a srt viper or a lambo or anything that goes rediculously fast. please dont waste your money

First of all one needs to think, do you really need these? Are you making that much power, or do you have a heavily modified car and the seats are going to add to the aesthetics of the car? If you answered yes then keep reading.


First, unless you are going to put harnesses and wear them tightly don't get a tight fitting seat. These seats will keep you very restricted in a daily driven vehicle. Next, unless you are going to wear a harness tight don't get one, they will hurt you in a crash more than protect you. Once all of this has been squared away start shopping for seats.

The main thing in seats is height/weight along with budget. Most racing seats fit very tight in the waste, so purchase a wide seat accordingly

Recaro makes very top of the line seats, but this is also shown through their prices.

I can't say anything about Sparco because I've never had any experience with them

Corbeau is known to make nice seats, with many styles. Another plus about Corbeau is they make wide seats which is very comfortable for a daily driver.

Also, I've seen some very nice no name seats on ebay that sell for cheap. The quality is very good on these seats, and they are mass sold, thus the low prices.

Lastly, when looking for racing seats remember you will need to purchase sliders. Depending on the car sliders can be very expensive, so don't forget to equate that into the final cost.

I was going to say...check out ebay. Car forums and craigslist are very good options too. Buying used (good quality) will save you a ton of money obviously.

oh..and +1 for Recaro. :)

hey, I just bought a car and my dad says i'll need racing seats because he knows i'll be going fast and someone I know was in an accident and narrowly avoided death because of them. so its going to be a daily driver and I wanted to know if anyone has experience with some comfy seats that have the option of a 4 point harness.

sparco made a seat about 5 years ago called the pro 2000. i dont know if they still make it. if they do it is a really comfortable, race seat. however it is a real race seat and you cannot fold it down, adjust the back angle, and it does hinder peripheral vision

That is fuckin dope man, what engine does it have in it? and you gotta keep those classic, if you put racing seats in it next thing you know you will be painting some flames down the side and thrown a spoiler on the back....

haha thanks. Its got a 289 for now. The seats should be the only thing noticably different, i'm hoping to find some that don't look overly out of place. the rest will just be a restoration to a stock look, keepin it clean.

Nice man drop a 350 in er, and if your dad is saying you HAVE to get racing seats (if you don't have to, don't do it) , what i would suggest is going out and buying some old beat ones and getting reupholstered with leather, they wont look as out of place that way. I have no idea what colour your interior is but I've seen it done with 2 tone brown leather in a Monte Carlo and it look pretty dope. You gotta post some pics of her when your done!

you never drop a chev motor into a ford you keep a ford a ford, dodge a dodge and y woul u want to depreciate the value of the truck/car by modifying it. you will get more money when you go to sell it if its in the original condition or restored to original then puting racing seats in it or puting a chev motor in it. if your going to put a new motor in it look for a 351 Cleveland there a cheaper motor and can get alot of power out of em if you build em right or you can get the 351 windsor more pricy but worth it in the end get way more power for your buck.

yeah, i'm not going to put a chevy motor in it, but i've got a long way to go before I can even think of that. one of the first priorities was new seats and i'd prefer not to die if the day comes that i get in an accident; hence the idea of race seats. i'll probably keep the bench seat around to use as a couch or something so i can stick it back in if i decide to sell it, which i'm not planning to do for a long long time.

so does anyone have race seats in their car? what do you have? how do they feel?

I would drop a chev in any gasser, and a cummings in any diesel. Simply my engine preference and what I know. And i do agree you will get more money if you sell it restored to original but in my eyes when i work on a vehicle i do it exactly how i want it, because you can always swap back to original if you are doing it your self.
