Skate style ski helmets

So basically I'm after a new helmet because my Giro G10mx sticks way out behind my head and kinda looks retarded. I'm more after a skate type helmet, less vents and crap. I wanna sticker it up, so I want lots of surface area.

Here's the question: What helmets are out there on the market anyways? I know most of the major ones, the holt, trace, baker, shiv. But what other more unknown ones are there, or just some ones that I didn't mention?

i got this one and it is sickk.. it even has a larger channel in the padding for where your gogs go under the helmet

someone must know..
but i think scott (maybe smith) is coming out with a super light, super low-profile helmet for next season.
there will probably be alot of hype over it.  just keep your eyes open.

get a skate helmet and take all the padding out then put ur beanie and goggles on then the helmet and it looks dope. thas wat mike hornbeck did in the jiberish breckenridge edit.

check out POC's receptor helmet..

The receptor + is a helmet you can use for skate-, snow- and watersports.. The receptor bug is for snow only and I think it looks great! I'm going to get one for next season..

The POC receptor is dope. Thanks, I forgot about POC for a bit.

However, The watermelon comes with a free visor so I won't even need goggles. And the sticker surface area is prime. I really don't know why more people don't wear something like that. I can't believe I've never seen a watermelon helmet before. Since all of us are so G, it would make sense that watermelon would be amazing.

One thing to remember about the P.O.C. is that it is NOT low profile at all.  The helmet itself is very thick and wide.  Keep that in mind if you are looking for something skate-styled and low profile.  It is very sturdy and offers great protection, but it might not be exactly what you are looking for.

yup your right its the one bobby brown has been wearing. there is a thread about it and it is called the Maze. It is coming out next year and will most likely replace the holt.

other good companies are protec and capix(both worn by mike hornbeck) if u want the true skate helmet look.  although the capix helmet i own is the wakeboarding one with the brim(the baseball looking one) and it is very flimsy and i dont trust it if im going big. its just super steezy imo.

i own a smith holt and i love it due to all of the padding that comes with it and you can really get that perfect fit.

i own the sweet protection rambler and it is by far the best helmet on the market rite now as far as protection goes. the thing is completely lined with kevlar.  this also comes at a $260 price tag.

another option is the smith hustle. which is a cross between the variant and holt.

^whoa, thanks. I forgot about sweet as well. That smith one looks pretty similar to the holt as well, makes sense that it would replace it.

And the triple 8 is sick looking, but what's their website? I seriously couldn't find it when I searched google...

I dont really agree on that.. I've seen guys with the poc helmet and it isnt 'very thick and wide'..

Also look at Jon with crowbars on.. looks great!

That's why I was so interested in it at first, but when I actually tried it on it was huge.  Maybe the helmet the pros are wearing is not the same receptor sold in stores?

Well I believe you can change the inside of the helmet for a perfect fit.. so maybe you had all the liners in it when you tried it on? I'll try one on soon..

ski.com had a couple of protec helmets for less than $30 they are ski not skate, so they have the better foam/protetion. same shell as the sakte ones though

iono, i really like helmets such as the capix and sandbox helmets, the translucent pro-tec one, as well as the s-one trian skate helmet.  i'm looking for something like those, but i don't want to sacrifice safety for a low profile fit because none of those helmets are certified, and that kind of scares me...  the helmet i'll probably end up getting is the pro-tec b2 snow, but if anybody knows of some legit helmets along these lines but with full certification that'd be dope.

Cool, thanks everyone. I picked up a Giro Shiv because of all the good reviews. Too bad it doesn't fit me right... The hazards of shopping online. So this leads me to a somewhat related question about the fit.

Would the larger size (large instead of medium) go further down on the back of my head and forehead than the smaller one? This medium is really short on my head, and I don't know if getting a larger size would help out at all...
